Can we talk about our location?

Hey its me,

Can we talk about our home location and going forward where we want to be based in the future?

Something that has never sat well with me is how we basically have three home grounds (and another training one) in three geographical areas, one of which we leapfrog over Bulldogs and eels territory to access.
That aint how war and tribalism should be.

Just a bit of background to why this is:

On the back of the Super League war, Western Suburbs Magpies (based in the Macarthur but with tentacles in Ashfield) merged with the Balmain Tigers, formed at the end of the 1999 NRL season as a joint-venture club with former Balmain coach, Wayne Pearce, as coach..

The merged club entered the 2000 NRL season with a mix of both former Wests and Balmain players.

This ultimately brought two locations together!

The Inner West, but we also claimed the lucrative South central region of Concord to Homebush and the Macarthur.
Macarthur provide growth and islander players. Inner west has money and population.

We have been playing a complicated tag team game since.
But we feel like an airport tarmac club with three home games.

Its complicated because we have our soul at Leichardt, world class facilities in Homebush, which is still in the edge of our territory, and our junior pool at Ctown.

But I think we need to sever one and for me Macarthur has to go.

We still keep the junior partnership going, but the inner west is huge and we need to expand into Newtown, Marrickville and these places, even the cusp of Nth Sydney like Lane Cove.

This is a massive population area, with richer, white/asian families who have sponsorships and crowds. This is also easier to sell new recruits.

What sounds better?

'Hey Mr Cherry Evans, come play for us, live on the water at Rozelle, harbour views, cappuccino in the morning and Iron Cove park where your kids can roam free from clowns and kids'

Or:
'Hey Mr Cherry Evans, come play for us, we can set you up in Raby, lots of parks around'.

This is why the Roosters get players cheaply, they all want to live the Bondi life.

Balmain offers the classy life. It is our future. We expand and take the inner west and we become a powerhouse club.
We can even agitate the dogs territory and push them towards Liverpol and slowly take some of their passionate lebs from them. It helps when we have consistently been the most leb friendly club to players since our inception. Moses, Twal, Farah, Bajouri, Elias x2, Douiehi,Tannous etc.

But happy to here your thoughts.

Thats nt smart either, thats just gifting them a home game.

Such a weird thing to do for a spoon team in a competitive environment.

Imagine we lose it and we come 9th as a result.
that just means we lost 3 games to many, the only sensible answer is in the Macaurther region,Mars is an untapped commodity.i choose not to worry about it and leave it up to Numb Nuts and the brains trust

I'd be happy to call any place west of Sydney metro our home if it meant it was our only home ground for at least a 50 year lease 🙂

It's a shame the govt reneged on redeveloping Olympic Park....
I dunno how serious they are about LO not hosting games in future without more.money invested in it... Probably scaremongering talk.
Yeah it has nostalgia and history & ppl love that... Would be a shame to lose it
Cambo = on the train line... Club next door... Plenty parking and it could be a fantastic stadium if it were renovated
The club hasn't had the balls in 23 years to make a hard decision.... Plenty say they'll walk away if this or that were to occur..... Guess what / plenty walked in 99/2000
This.club will continue to go nowhere without tough decisions being made

I guess the question is what is the profile of your WT target market v what we have now.
I’m not sure that the Balmain crowd are into their footy any longer and RL, being the game of the working class, drags more toward western Sydney than inner west.
Most of the WT supporters are a mix of WS , BT and their families coz it’s very hard to hang your hat on a local area.
Like if you grow up in South Sydney, Eastern Suburbs, Penrith,Parra, Manly
Or the Shire,St George or Canterbury, its a no brainer but us, we’re a real mutt.
For the sake of geography we must take the corridor from Concord to Campbelltown and own it, and the families and juniors in it.
Bye bye LO( and that kills me to say it) but those days are gone.
Given a clash with Dogs will occur in that corridor, I think it’s in our interest to develop things along joint lines. As I’ve said many times a new stadium at Liverpool is perfect for both and that should be our driving force, in the mean time it’s CS for us, and all our focus must be on that decision.
Yes, we’ll probably lose some support but hopefully double it in future times.
Remember the old business saying “ undiluted focus is the secret of the super successful”.
