Canterbury Bulldogs table four-year deals to lure James Tedesco and Aaron Woods from Wests Tigers

On a sidenote, I guess one other thing to consider is how Cleary will end up assessing up and comers like JJ Felise and Junior Tatola, both Australian schoolboy props and both have a respectable amount of talent. Felise certainly looked alright in FG last season but neither have seen any FG this season.

The figures for Woods boogle the mind. I reckon 500k is basically the maximum we should be offering for him. There will be plenty of forwards who we can attract to the club for the right dollars.

Plenty of forwards yes but none of them are as good as the bloke you want to replace

Glad to see that someone else can see the problem.

500K for an Australian and SOO prop is laughable - I would be too embarrassed to mention that to him.

Wayne Bennett said 5/6 years ago that he wouldn't pay over 350k for a prop. This is a bloke who coached webke Lazarus civinocieva. Woods isn't in a bulls roar of those 3\. Now granted at that time the cap was about 4.5 million so let's allow for the inflation, So I today's terms he wouldn't pay over 600k for a prop?

If someone wants to pay him 900k go for it, all I'm saying is that he isn't worth it analytically. And I'd be upset if it was my team shelling out 12% of the cap on him.

Bennett said that true SG

Cap dollars and total contracts are miles apart as you would know

But when you can offer just as much in TPA's to a Webcke , Lazarus or Civonaceva all is good

These guys are also looking to be very good players. Woods to me isn't in the best position at our club to be expecting a huge salary.

Plus Don Talbot brown paper bags.

After trying to distill all of the rumour, innuendo and down right crap floating around, i think for both AW and JT the following is about right:

1\. We have had offers on the table for some time.
2\. I believe, reading between the lines, we are the best offer(s) monetarily they have.
3\. They both weren't happy to commit until the coaching situation was sorted - if you remember even before JT was sacked, he wasn't contracted beyond this year and we wanted both these boys to sign 4 ish year contracts
4\. We all know who the coach is and will be for 3.5 years ( 😛ray: )
5\. If they don't sign with us this week then it isn't money and they want to get off the bus for whatever reason. Their prerogative.
6\. Good luck - plan B and we can sign a plethora of players at better $ that will create a TEAM not a bunch of individuals - parra survived without hayne for example.
7\. I really really want Teddy to stay.

Mic drop

Can't argue with any of that, and I am over all the big 4 and their contracts.

Agree with this, and there's really nothing left for them both to be weighing up. They've been sitting on these contracts for a long time and it's clear money isn't an issue. Since they're still waiting it suggests it's something else, which isn't positive for us and the longer this takes, the less chance we are of retaining them imo.

The four players as a group have dead set ruined the season for me thus far.

We won on Saturday but it still felt like a loss. :deadhorse:

Despite 2 years trying to sign them and what I perceive as great generosity over the years financially they have shown have zero loyalty and quite frankly are treating the supporters like crap.

Moses was the icing on the cake. Let this be a lesson of the stupidity of over investing in juniors.

If we follow "on the buses" does it mean both Woods & Tedesco get immediate releases like Moses? If so, does that mean we just write another season off as rebuilding again, hand over 3 players who are arguably our best 3 players and go to the Concord kitchen and select a wooden spoon?

I am convinced some of you shut your eyes everytime Woods gets the ball cause you cant be watching if you dont see that he is by far away our best forward in terms of making metres every week. He also has some great touches with the ball a couple of rippers ithe on Sat night one that led to a try..
Defensively he doesn't hit with the impact of JWH but we demand alot more game time of him.

Mate I'm pretty sure that there's only about 4 of us on here who actually appreciate Woods and the huge contribution he makes every single week and that's bloody sad, considering all that he has done, and continues to do, for this club. Calling him ridiculous names like captain pea heart and powderpuff is beyond insulting, especially coming from keyboard warriors, who have probably never even laced on a boot!

Seriously, what is wrong with you people? Always ready and waiting to cut someone down when they don't measure up to _your_ idea of how they should be playing the game. Doesn't matter how effective they actually are on the field, NOooo… they're not aggressive enough or not mongrel enough, or not enough of this or not enough of that, or they need a haircut...for God's sake give it a rest!

You don't know when you've got a good thing - if James Graham is soooo much better than Aaron Woods, then why is a successful club like Canterbury looking to offload him so they can free up space to sign Woods? Why wouldn't they just keep Graham and forget about signing Woods if Graham is that much better?

My beef with Woods is his asking price, I don't want to throw 8 or 900 grand at a prop, and I think he has had long enough to think it over, we should set a deadline of Friday or pull the offer.

hear, hear :sign:

Woods is asking for too much. He is leveraging smartly off the prospect of going to the Dogs of Roosters with Woods.
Smart play would be Cleary dealing them to the Roosters and getting Watson, Napa in return.

We are not…750K ...600K under the cap with 150K Club affiliated TPA under the Marquee player allowance is the revised offer on the table...

And at that price, I believe he is well worth it. Additionally, he is incredibly popular with the rest of the playing group. Don't underestimate this side of his value either.
