Canterbury Bulldogs table four-year deals to lure James Tedesco and Aaron Woods from Wests Tigers

When the chips were down with our big losses Moses is the only one I remember battling it out to the end, even if quite ineffectual. Tedesco would have been as well. If there heart is to play for the Tigers then hopefully that will happen without paying too much.

The Bulldogs are looking like a "basket-case" club!

- Flip flopping on the coach.
- Questionable past recruitment that has been widely criticised.
- Offering inflated contracts to potential new recruits.
- Current players on big dollars not delivering.
- Pushing a number of contracted players out of the club to make room in the cap. You can only push out players that other clubs want, and you're usually paying part of the players salary.

There's an air of desperation about them at the moment. Their current roster looks unbalanced with a weak spine and an obsession with props - they don't look like a top 8 side! With Hasler afforded only a 2 year contract extension window it seems he/they are prepared to gamble on some risky roster management for a quick fix. Reminds me of Bennett at the Knights - pushed hard to win them a premiership but in doing so left the club in disarray, from which they are still reeling 3 years later.

You could offer the observation that Des has guaranteed to the Board certain high profile players will join if he is given another tenure. I agree there does appear to be a sniff of something in the air out at Belmore. If we are going to lose players, then their two second row forwards, Jackson and Elliot are fine prospects who we could certainly use.

The mail is if the Bulldogs get both Woods and Tedesco they will try to offload James Graham to the Knights but if they only secure one they will keep him

Indeed the Knights would be interested in Graham. But Graham is 31 and such a competitor I'd be surprised if he would want to play out the rest of his career at a battling club. He's motivation is to win a premiership, and the Knights are at least 2-3 seasons from being a major competitive force again.

If we end up with Graham for Woods on less money I will be very happy. Graham is also work horse and a natural leader. He probably needs a new club and he would provide the valuable experience in the pack that we need.

Wonder what part Harry T has played in these negotiations?

He needs to throw Teddy a penthouse in exchange for his signature.

I am convinced some of you shut your eyes everytime Woods gets the ball cause you cant be watching if you dont see that he is by far away our best forward in terms of making metres every week. He also has some great touches with the ball a couple of rippers ithe on Sat night one that led to a try..
Defensively he doesn't hit with the impact of JWH but we demand alot more game time of him.

Mate I'm pretty sure that there's only about 4 of us on here who actually appreciate Woods and the huge contribution he makes every single week and that's bloody sad, considering all that he has done, and continues to do, for this club. Calling him ridiculous names like captain pea heart and powderpuff is beyond insulting, especially coming from keyboard warriors, who have probably never even laced on a boot!

Seriously, what is wrong with you people? Always ready and waiting to cut someone down when they don't measure up to _your_ idea of how they should be playing the game. Doesn't matter how effective they actually are on the field, NOooo… they're not aggressive enough or not mongrel enough, or not enough of this or not enough of that, or they need a haircut...for God's sake give it a rest!

You don't know when you've got a good thing - if James Graham is soooo much better than Aaron Woods, then why is a successful club like Canterbury looking to offload him so they can free up space to sign Woods? Why wouldn't they just keep Graham and forget about signing Woods if Graham is that much better?

5 of us, unless you counted me in that original 4.

not sure if you read the article last week but Benny E. thinks the Harry doesn't like dealing with losers?

I am a big fan of benny e the footballer and have had some really cool discussions with him on various occasions but sometimes when i read his comments in the papers i am left scratching.

Dont know if he does it for the headlines or to work in with his agendas but it baffles me the things that i read.

No i didnt see the article you're referring to. I wouldnt take benny's word on what Harry is doing however.

I prefer to remember Benny for the amazingly talented footballer he was, rather than the Mr Rent-a-Quote he has become.

There are a lot more than 5 of us. i have and always will defend Woods because he is the by far the most effective of our forwards you only need to watch what happens when he is replaced to see the result. It is no coincidence that our d falls apart between the 30-50 min mark when he is having a breather. There is nobody we can sign to effectively replace him NO ONE.
You will never see Woods in a "highlights reel" that is not his job but because of his work you will see other players get a "highlights reel"
As far as the ridiculous name calling by so called fans on here it tells you an awful lot more about their life than anything else. There is a good reason Cleary made Woods and Tedesco priority signings and guess what it is.Rant over

I don't care if Woods is our best forward, its his personality that i don't like. He's a goose and a weak excuse of a leader.

There is no argument that Woods is a great player. The issue is the price you pay to keep Tedesco. The player manager is clever got Brooks signed up who had no offers and moved Moses to Parra at 850k which, is overs we weren't going to pay. He is now going to get top dollar for Woods by enticing bidders with Tedesco. You only sign Woods if Teddy commits with him. I believe at 900k you would sign Capewell 250k, McQueen 400k, Vete 250k. Matulino and packer would also be aroun 900k. We are better off with quality depth in my view unless you lock in Teddy.

"We bet on juniors but there is a proviso that they have to stay for fair money. Our juniors appear to want overs or they will go. Woods is a good player but we have to develop a culture of players being replaceable and for crazy amounts of money he is definitely replaceable."

THIS^

Then again, what have the big 4 learned recently. Basically that an origin hooker and club life member can be turned out on his arse for money and team structure. Whatever you think of this decision, good or bad, it has taught Tedesco, Brooks and Woods that the game is about money first and foremost. I think Moses knows this well.

If the Farah saga had been handled better then I suspect that the big 4 question would be easier. Although for some unknown reason Moses and Brooks just keep getting linked with the word "talent" and we pay ridiculous overs to keep them. Des seemed to have the right idea at Manly, punt the flashy halfbacks and keep the clubmen.

I think your spot on here.

You must ask yourself the question if your one of the so called Big 4 players " Loyalty " deep down they have probably entertained the thought of doing so but the events that have transpired over the last 2 years at our Club have maybe left a sour taste in there mouths and would of realised that " Loyalty " is dead and buried . I'm sure there Manager Issacc would of highlighted this and it's a short Career , make the most you can $$$$.
So i'm trying to put myself in these players thought process….. a bit like the pros and cons of committing to the Wests tigers

pros with signing with the Tigers :
1\. Playing with Mates that you been playing for a long time
2\. Maybe money and getting overs from the Club desperate in keeping them( referring to Woods and Teddy ).
3\. A genuine love for the Club .
4\. Have tasted Ivan Cleary as a Coach and can buy into there vision " hoping on the Bus " i love that term :sunglasses: by the way

Cons with signing with the Tigers :
1\. Not playing regular finals footy and at the same affecting playing Rep footy.
2\. Not Training in modern Day facilities .
3\. An unprofessional Organisation
4\. Playing amongst players that are crap

I think Woods and Teddy are an integral part of our Organisation in attracting players from other Clubs wanting to play with them but if you wanna go ? go everyone is replaceable and we are freeing up alot of money to purchase what we need....Cleary has his contacts and i expect some good signings soon enough, i expect his son to be here in a couple of years ( you wait and see ).

By the way Elijah Taylor should be Captain he is bloody unreal

Im starting to get the feeling at least one of them will stay. Not sure why. Hope its Tedesco.

Same, have a feeling it is Tedesco but might just be wishful thinking. I can't wait for this saga to be over though, one way or another.
