Cb i think your being abit harsh…
...maybe if this happend as soon as he came back then ok...
but its a year on...he only blew .052 (which wouldnt be a problem if he wasnt on his P's)...
...a had a few drinks the night before, big deal ? .... its 2 years on from his last major alcohol incident...
doesn't deserve a punishment in my books...nrl didnt need to get involved in this one...

The thing that annoys me is that there is clear **double standards** at play KOK. As said previously, Gallop and the NRL punted Stewart for 4 weeks because his drunken behaviour brought the game into disrepute, and he was found to have not broken the law. Carney is a serial offender (and it's not the first time he has been caught out, its the third!) If Politis and Gyngell weren't putting the screws to Gallop he might have had the pair to apply the same penalty. He has been banned for 12 months because of it. I'll reiterate: If the whole Brett Stewart debacle never occurred, I wouldn't have a problem if he got let off, because there was no precedent.

NRL aside, I don't care if it's Carney or the bloke five rows back in the Latchem Robinson stand, anyone who has been busted DUI **three times** (and thats just the times they have been caught,) show clear recklessness and selfishness by putting everyone else at risk. As part of his bloody weak "five point plan" I'll bring my uncle who has serious brain damage and no use of his legs as a result of being run down by a drunk driver and he can justify to him why idiots like himself think it's fine to get behind the wheel after a few (or a big night on it,) and that sort of permanent damage is perfectly justified.

The guy is a grade-A tosspot who has clearly displayed he has not learned from his mistakes.

End rant.

He has had his license back for only 6-odd months after a 5 year suspension!!

That suspension came about after two drink-driving charges - one while already disqualified where he led police on a chase & ran from the abandoned vehicle to leave injured team-mate & passenger Steve Irwin to face the cops!!

Sorry Watto - but this is not a storm in a teacup - as the court process should prove! He will be very lucky to escape weekend detention at least - just look at Wes Naiqama!!

0.052 might be a low range for a fully licensed driver - but when you're a P-plater with a 0.000 threshold it is actually quite high!

It is also an indication of exactly how blotto he was the night before - which is far from a crime - but remains an issue for a bloke who got such a free ride in the media in 2010 for supposedly being a changed man!!

I am far from a wowser & do not care for arbitrary NRL or club sanctions that are all about PR - but the courts should throw the book at him! He should at the very least face another 5 years without a license!

The NRL has today accepted a five-point plan that will see Todd Carney fined $10,000 and has warned the Sydney Roosters five-eighth that his future playing career in the NRL is again in serious jeopardy.

As well as ensuring the payment of the fine, the NRL will require the Roosters to report against their management plan which includes mandatory counseling, career education, a traffic-offenders course and work with alcohol support groups.

While accepting the positive steps Carney has undertaken over the last one and a half seasons, the fact remains that Todd has already been suspended from the game once by the NRL and that a further period of deregistration now has to hang over his future.

“In this instance there is an inadvertent rather than deliberate element to his actions last Saturday morning but, nevertheless, Todd placed his safety and the safety of others at risk,” NRL Chief Executive, Mr David Gallop, said today.

“The courts will take their own view on that matter but there is also no escaping the poor record that Todd must deal with during his time in the game.

“Todd has to understand that the next suspension he faces for off-field misconduct and in particular alcohol abuse will go far beyond one or two matches, both for his benefit and for the benefit of the game.

“There are many people who have worked to see him get another chance at rebuilding his career and for the most part he has responded

“It is now very much up to Todd to determine whether this is a stumble along the way or a complete loss of direction.

“If it is the latter than he has to understand that there is simply no place in the game for him. If it is the former then we will expect both he and the club to demonstrate his adherence to the treatment measures the club has put in place and to the commitments he has made.

“The club will be required to report on his progress to the NRL on a regular basis and Todd faces automatic suspension if he does not meet those commitments.”

here here,
Also
arguements being used the Mr.Average would not have to go through this are flawed (comparing apples with oranges), anyone on his salary, which is in the 300k to 500k range, in the real world is a director of a company. I can asure you if they did what Carney has done would loss their position.
