So if you missed channel 9 news, Weidler explained the photo. A mate of Carney's took the picture of him and passed it onto his brother who apparently lost his phone at the races. I'm not sure if the brother did lose it or he in fact passed it on but is trying to get out of responsibility for the photo getting out. I feel both are about as plausible as each other.
Either way I still don't understand why he should be sacked. It's not illegal and while I wouldn't do it myself, he has harmed no one else. Therefore why should it be anyone else's problem to have an opinion on.
It seems we live in a world of angels who have made no mistakes and are free to judge and pull down everyone around them. Todd needs help and probably better mates around him. Mates that are concerned with Todd's welfare and just aren't there for him while he's earning good money. The only people we should try to be better then, is the person we were the day before. Sometimes as don't achieve that but i think we shouldn't stop trying.

The crux of this whole issue is that Todd carney leads a life in a goldfish bowl and the public image of his employer is extremely important.
For what it's worth, something in a contract doesn't have to be illegal for instant dismissal: eg; in my line of work I am subject to random drug and alcohol tests, even though the only machinery I operate is a computer! It's not illegal for me to go out at lunch time and throw down a few pints but if I get tested when I go back to work it's the sack because that's the contract I signed.
Unless cronulla is banking on a diuretic company becoming major sponsor, the media attention this has garnered is very bad for business (regardless of the actual context, as it is the sensational, shocking things that attract attention and stick…instead of being that guy who won the dally m that year he will now forever be remembered as the guy who...).
If Joe Everyman has the same thing happen then only the usual side effects are in play.
But that is the whole thing: nrl players are subject to public scrutiny and often harsher penalties than everyday people (eg; losing your job).
I'm not being sanctimonious and to be honest am not overly disgusted by it, nor am I judging him.
What I am saying is that Carney has a public profile and as such wasn't as vigilant as he should've been and is now paying the price.
