Carney on the piss - different piss this time

My biggest issue is the continued inconsistency with the NRL's management of off-field issues. Carney gets punted for pissing in his own mouth and will most likely not get to register with another club for the rest of the year while convicted wife bashers are allowed to still run around?

The management of this game is so dysfunctional that it wouldn't surprise me that they'd ban Carney for a relative non-event and then let a club sign a convicted child rapist tomorrow…

he was given THREE chances by the sharks alone. He's blown 2 of them, this one was the third strike. Luckily the NRL/Sharks kept the first two under wraps.

So, why don't you "unwrap" them here for us? Assuming you have any idea at all.

I can give you one….....he failed to show up for the season launch.

All this is true, but legally the Sharks would be on pretty shaky ground if their case is, effectively, "we sacked you because we don't like the look of your leisure activities".

Compare this with your alcohol thing: if your contract says you can't be under the influence of alcohol at work and you've consented to being breath tested, you're bang to rights if you fail a test. **But what's Carney actually done here that contravenes his contract?** Clearly not drinking: there's no actual proof he even was drinking, not to mention the fact that if they could have punted him for being on the sauce they'd have done it months ago. "But come on - you must have been pissed" is not going to stand up in court.

So, once again, it comes down to one or both of the act itself being worthy of sacking or the fact that the image was distributed being worthy of sacking. I'd suggest that a man urinating on himself is his own business UNLESS he goes out of his way to publicise it, either by doing it in public (and there are no reports of any other witnesses to this event) or by being complicit in distributing the footage. And, again, if Carney says he either didn't know or didn't agree to the photo being taken or distributed then I reckon he's got a good case for wrongful dismissal.

i think it all comes down to what is actually in the contract he signed, which we can postulate would have wording to the effect of it being a breach to bring unwanted publicity to the club.

its a good point that this can be argued as subjective and open to interpretation, but i wouldn't be surprised if the words "as deemed by the club" were on his contract.

in time this will fade like everything does, and hopefully things improve for carney. this incident (if counted as isolated) is a very unlucky thing to happen to a guy just being stupid, but thats the price of fame i guess.

i agree that, for example, what greg bird did was way worse than this isolated incident. but the problem is the long rap sheet he has.

yeh, i had a paragraph saying that "come on - you mustve been drunk" probably would in fact hold up in court unless he a) wants to add perjury to his rap sheet, or b) by some miracle he actually wasnt, but i tend to ramble on too much and so chopped my post down!

:blah

The Todd Carney incident is just blown up out of proportion! If people knew the honest truth of what happened several weeks ago your opinions would be a lot different. Firstly despite what you think he wasn't drinking. Secondly he did not drink his own urine, it is a staged party trick with a water bottle, streaming effect what looks like urine. Thirdly what a lot of people don't understand is the photo was never ever meant to end up on twitter, it was a private joke between mates. If your still not convinced what about Rani Matua assaulted a cab driver went to court and got off what punishment was handed down to him off his club and the NRL? NOTHING and here's todd carney does a party trick between mates and gets sacked off his club and banned for life from the NRL. This code is becoming a joke Shame on you NRL!

Bottom line is he's a serial dickhead and the NRL will be a better place without him. End of story.

Even Dugan is making excuses for Carney now

Can I put this another way , even Luis Suarez has come out and said he bit the other player

I 'd have a bit of respect for Carney if he said "I've been a tool again " , but as usual he is blaming his best mate , Noyce , and some serial fan who released Dugan's bad habits

Don't they get it ??

I'm surprised by the number of people who say he shouldn't be sacked!!! Was what he did such a disgraceful act??? Of course not, just a bloke being stupid, and not worth the outrage it has generated in social media. But Todd would have had the consequences clearly laid out to him. The game has become so saccarine sweet and precious and will not tolerate such an action. Is that right or wrong? Don't matter, it's the way it is. Todd would have known that. He would have known straight away he would have been sacked. So would have all his team mates. Like I say, it was just a stupid lark, but everyone knows the NRL won't tolerate such action. And let's face it, he has had plenty of chances.

The offensive thing in the whole matter will be if another team is allowed to sign him. Cronulla shouldn't be punished while another team profits from his undoubted talents.

PS. His mate is a total knob.

Part of me says, serial offender. Piss (pun intended) him off! The other part of me says, Compared to Robert Lui he's a saint.
