Pretty standard to have a testimonial dinner for long serving players when they retire - went to Wayne Pearce's one back in the day. Acknowledgement of their career, and service to the club.

It's that it's being organised by his own company that's the tacky part.

I tend to agree with this....it looks like Farah has asked the club if he could do a night celebrating him, and get his company to do it.....

I doubt highly it was like that.....but it doesn't seem to sit right.

Don't see how it matters who organises it people will either want to go or they won't.

so the company that Farah owns organizes his own testimonial dinner at the club and it doesn't strike you as a little odd or tacky??

Looks like a brown paper bag deal to me.....

If I wanted to support something for Robbie Farah and he has shares in the event company hosting why would that make any difference? They are still going to have to pay for catering, staff, speakers, entertainment, etc like any event company. If he gets a kick back after that isn't that what it is all about? It's there for all to see.

I don't care if he makes a million bucks off this night, he deserves it.

I guess my first impression was that since nothing had seemingly been done for him officially then it was left up to him to organize it. Since it is for his service to the Tigers (rightly or wrongly assumed by me) I got the impression that the club said "have it on this night and sort it out yourself" and had a handshake to say charge whatever and the extra will be unofficial for services rendered.......that was my take on it, and seeing how the NRL treat others so differently (Smith/Thurston), and from the Tigers being belted for offering Farah a job after he finishes playing that was my gut instinct.

Wrong.

Club is not allowed to organise it, otherwise it would count towards the cap.

If you're going to be dirty on anyone, be dirty on the NRL for the inconsistency around this.

Cam Smith gets a testimonial years before he retires (Plus his missus gets a ring) yet Robbie has to arrange his own....

It's not wrong. It is tacky. There are plenty other event's companies out there Robbie could have engaged OR he could have just dropped the whole promotion that it was arranged by "leading sports company Two4Seven"...

Robbie hardly played for Australia, heck, he only made it into the Blues after a while. While we believe he should have one, I can understand why the NRL didn't throw one.

Well I can't go, my poverty budget excludes me from such events. Maybe Toddie can pay back the money he stole from the Wests Tigers cap and shout us Wests Tigers tragics a table or ten.

Id go this in a heartbeat, unfortunately have other commitments. Alex Turner tickets that im not giving up.

Hope the night goes well for him.
