Centres & Wingers Off Contract 2014

From the genuine centers available, the answer is obvious…..
Dale Copley
Off contract and a real top line performer
Reminds me a lot of Chris Lawrence prior to his hip injury

Yep. Copley is the one.
If you're going to target a club.. parra, Souths or Broncos are the ones.
The WTs have done well in securing our up and comers.
However. Here on the WT forum there was a lot of talk about a rival clubs pitching high for one of our players..only to price us out of keeping another player under the cap. Why not us do the same to either Parra, Souths or the Broncos?

From the Holden Cup we have
Milone, Hoeter, Farrell, Mclaren and Ogden who all could play centre/wing. I know that Hoeter has signed but not sure about the others. We have Fullback options there in Farrell and Hoeter, Milone and Mclaren are both centres but should be OK to play on the wing and Farrell can also play 5/8.

From State Cup Fine, Taukafa, Hitchcox, Slieman, Brown and Moltzen. Do we really need to sign any more Centres/wingers at this stage, most of these guys are young and will develop over the next couple of years.

SKD is contracted for next season at the roosters apparently for around $350k ( and the rest probably ), so once the tigers sort all the current bs and hopefully get a strong ceo etc would the tigers be in a position perhaps to chase SKD, as an early release from the roorters, for maybe 2015 / 2016.
have always rated this guy. any thoughts people ?

I think Dane Nielsen from warriors is also off contract. Ex storm and also played for maroons a couple of times iirc. Not too flashy but solid. Wouldn't mind him here

Dane nielson is crap, were struggling to score points as it is, we dont need another attacking myth/decent defender. We saw how much that helped with Braith.

All pie in the sky stuff, we are tied over the barrel by our existing agreements with Lawrence, Moltzen and maybe one or two others. Unless we can find another club to take on their rather large back loaded contracts, I doubt we will be venturing into the market place. So once again we will be forced to fast track a kid a few years before his time or take the other approach and send a experienced plodder out to battle with the same average results. I really wish I could be optimistic about 2015, but I cant!!!!!

Won't the resignation of Liam Fulton free some money to purchase a new centre/winger?

I was reading a month ago that Fulton's contract will be still in our cap till it expires in two years. The club approached the NRL but were knocked backed. I cant see how a player who has retired still comes under your cap, but apparently that is the case. I suppose it stops clubs from offering a player a early retirement deal on their full contract value in order to get a new player into the club and under the cap, but surly in Fulton's case where it is a well documented injury its a different case

That is completely unfair. Fulton has been advised by highly skilled medical staff not to continue playing. Surely Mayer must challenge the NRL ruling and ask for dispensation on medical grounds. Why must Wests Tigers suffer because of other club who have a history of rorting the NRL rules.

That can't be right SC about Fulton

We would have to get an exemption , we did for Tuiaki and Dwyer

Pretty sure the Cap relief request was for this season…Having officially retired cant see how the remaining contract would come into next two years...He has been promised a role with the WT for that time similar to Simon..

Apparently Brad Takairangi is close to leaving the Titans for the Sharks. Think he's quite under rated. Plays centre and 6\. Would be happy to have him here

 Irrespective of centres and wingers are available at the end of the season, our recruitment officer has to be vigilante of ….................... 1 quality of the player ...2 affordability of the player.....3 suitability of the player to fit in to our game plans...4the versatility of the player(play a couple of positions)...we need to recruit the type of people to also benefit and help our young guns going forward(Anasta has been very good with Brooks).. Some may not agree, but we have to look after the future prospects for long term benefits..Wests Tigers now and forever......

I am lead to believe the club has earmarked seve for a spot in the centres in the near future, maybe that is why they aren't chasing outside the club

That's all well and good if they think Seve will be there long term, but at the moment all he has is potential. That means nothing yet. We've got very little NRL experience in our depth in the backs

And while we are at it we need to sign Marion's brother Ben Seve

If any of the WT's management still read the Forum , look into Ben , he could be better than Marion according to an old team mate who has been involved in his development and is a coach of a Qld Cup side

If there isn't much quality out there (with the exception of Copley) I would rather they groom from within…..certainly cheaper short term. In all honestly i think our centres will be Simona and Austin/moltzen till we develop seve

I'd take Robinson and Copely first picks - perhaps a punt on Sio as well. We can see now how short we are of quality Centres and Wingers especially after a few injuries. IMO Lawrence needs to hang up his boots and Simona needs a rocket up his backside. Nofa has never really been 100% all year and Richards, even though he has been terrific for us in many aspects, is only getting slower, older and more injury prone. Rowe is not up to it and neither is Lulia (although he did impress me once - when he scored 4 tries that day). WE NEED TO BUY A FEW OUTSIDE BACKS BADLY!!
