CEO and Board of Directors

Glad to hear Sheens is going and fingers crossed we get a decent replacement. That being said I am of the opinion further changes are needed starting with the CEO.

- panicked and extended sheens' contract to 2014
- the terms of this meant to sack him would cost a fortune
- salary cap dramas year on year (calculator needed!)
- handling of the moltzen drama
- progress on a financial front, ie still on struggle street
- what is the long term vision?
- members still nothing more than season ticket holders and treated like mushrooms
- will we always have 3-4 home grounds?
- professionalism of staff employed eg media, memberships and so on
- was ruled by sheens
- appointed when better candidates were an option eg John brogden (and I don't vote liberal!)
- feng shui at the gym!!!

The Board too needs to change although this is not easy eg for Balmain you need to be a member three consecutive years just to earn the right to vote plus then need to attend AGM to cast your one vote (no proxy or online). Obviously they are not keen on expanded participation but rather want to hold on to power…

Going on that list I'll have a guess and say they've been around for a while…

I don't understand why there is so much criticism for Sheens being resigned initially - hadn't he just taken us to the top 4 in 2010 and was half way through getting us there in 2011?

It was the length of time given extending his contract, especially given how bad things were '07-'09\. A year yes, 2 years might have been reasonable, but 3 really seemed to be a stretch.

I agree, there's certainly been some question marks on how things have been managed for a while now.

Steve Humphries has done a great gaem to my mind
- Extra game at Leichardt and Campbelltown
- Increased Sponsorship
- Top 4 2 out of his 3 yrs i n charge of the club - The 4 yrs before he came we missed the finals
- In 2012 we have made the Under 20s GF and our feeder club the NSW cup grand final as well as winning the SG Ball
- He has mamanged the salary cap right to its upper limit - what do you people want us ending the year a couple of hundered thouhsand under - we should be stretching every single dollar and for every single extra bit every year and he has done this
- Wests Tigers are surviving and thriving finacially- the problems are with the owners not with the JV finances themsleves
- Highly respected in the game
- Willing to make a few enemies (Such as the Dragons and pissing off the players to clear the decks)
- Increased membership numbers without dropping prices

He has done a fantastic job as CEO and has been our best signing in years IMO

Some of the board members may need to go - especially if its true and they are sticking thier nose into which players we sign

I rate him as well tbh. I would've screwed the dragons over moltzen as well considering we were losing Lui due to his off field issue and thought he handled that as any CEO should. Find a way to get what we want and do it.

The extra length on sheens deal is the only thing i'd question as it should've been performanced based EG make the 8 2012 & 2013 and an extra year kicks in automatically.

if the board are sticking there noses into us stopping the signing of brent kite, i'm all for them to stay.

Sironen stepped down as a director when he became General Manager at Balmain, and his spot was taken by Danny Stapleton. I believe Mike Bailey, Mick Liubinskas and Dennis Burgess are three of the Wests Group directors, but I couldn't name the other two.

I think you willl find that once this all settles down and we have some stability Humphrey's will be next to go , once we have found an able replacement

Agree Happy. Too many mistakes and not strong or decisive enough in dealing with players/managers/coaches. Don't think we would have had the problems of the past 2 years if we had had a professional in the job like Greenberg or a chairman like Irvine

Disagree 100%

If we had made the Semis none of these discussions would be seeing the light of day. Failure on the field brings all the detractors out…

Mr Humpries has seen sponsorship levels at an unprecedented level, we have / Had assembled a (what should have been) very competitive squad of players across all grade, kept the loonies in the factions at bay and continued to build a solid brand in the sporting arena.

Our CEO is one of the best.

I agree with spartan and boonboon on this one. I have been really impressed with Humph over the past 12 hours or so. He speaks logic and answers any question thrown at him with confidence and professionalism. I think he offered Sheens a 3 year deal because he believed Sheens was the best man for the job. We had just made the semis 2 years in a row.

I didn't want Sheens resigned and I was not impressed with the handling of the Moltzen affair either, but everybody new to their position will make some judgemental errors irrespective of the seniorority of their position. We could have kept Lui and lost sponsors instead - which was the better outcome?

When this position was available I wanted it to go to John Brogden. Very capable individual whom I believe would have steered our club well. I find Humph to be a similar type of person. It cannot be easy dealing with all the different factions involved in the merger, together with supporters, coaching staff and players but I think he has held himself quite well.

I think we should cut him a little slack and judge him over team and club performance over the next 2 years, without the influence of Tim Sheens (should Tim elect to leave).

Agree Spartan. Some of the players at our club need to remember that they are well paid to do a job a stack of others would kill to do. I'm all for trying to build a team culture but at the end of the day the club management and coaching staff need to be in control of who stays and who goes in the playing ranks. As much as I thought the process could/should have been better handled, to have players going on TV complaining that their best mates have taken a higher paycheck to move elsewhere is just crazy. Yes I understand it is tough when your buddies are no long team-mates but they need to remember their place in the pecking order.

The board also stuck their noses in a stopped us signing Willie Mason, too.

Reality is, player recruitment decisions should be made by the coach, not the board.

If our new coach wants Kite then he should be able to sign him regardless of what the board thinks.

Thanks mate, and thanks also to anyone else who posted regarding who the directors were.

I agree with spartan and yoss - i think our CEO has done a good job. The only issue i have with him is, as someone else pointed out, the length that he extended sheens's contract. 3 years was too much
