Lee, don't be a lawyer, be our chairman, pick a fight, make it personal like it is for us, they are going to beat us anyway, let's get dirty and hopefully the players will have a go.

Because it's a one way fight.

Penrith fans are laughing right now. 10 on the trot, likely to be 11. Even if we do beat them, they'll still be going to at least week 2 of the finals and we'll be once again wishing we were there.

Everything worked out great for Ivan and Penrith. They all got what they wanted. I said this when he left, the integrity/loyalty barbs will only sting for so long, and they don't hurt as much when you have a five year contract. They'll mean nothing if he carries Provan and Summons out of ANZ Stadium too.

I hate the bloke for what he did, don't get me wrong, but let's not kid ourselves into thinking Penrith fans have it for us, they don't care about us. If anything they find it amusing because they benefit from dodgy dealings and we were supposed to have gone on to greater things with a better coach, and we're stuck exactly where we always have been while they are a real chance of a premiership.

This x 1000. I have a heap of Penrith mates, and they don't hate the Tigers at all. They pity us, think we're a joke.

Short memories those folks. Not so long ago they won a comp, like us, then missed the finals 9 of the next 11 seasons, including a wooden spoon. Panthers haven't made a legitimate dent in a finals series since 2004.

now what..

Apparently its only wins that matter, but then there's a hundred-post thread about generic comments made about an ex-girlfriend by the lawyer chairman. Oh and then two players posted on social media.

YAWN

Me too, I grew up in Penrith. Most of my mates are Penrith fans. I get reminded of it every week.

Same here, except my best friend only started following Penrith last year. Enrages me every time we talk about NRL.

Enormous salary? He’s only on about 450

I really am irreverent to Penrith. I was bitter towards them after they poached Cleary and did enjoy their initial struggles after sacking Griffin, but I don’t have a deep seeded hatred for them. I grew up hating sides like Parra and the Dogs. The Dogs hate has worn off over the years, but Penrith have never been that kind of side to me. If Penrith play Parra in the gf, I’ll happily cheer the Panthers on wearing an Ivan mask

Pascoe avoids scrutiny over cap mess

There is a school of thought that Wests Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe has got off lightly when it comes to the club’s salary cap malaise.

Former coach Ivan Cleary and ex-football manager Kelly Egan have largely worn the blame for the bloated contracts that have hampered coach Michael Maguire’s ability to piece together a more competitive side.

The Tigers are trying to create space – Josh Reynolds is among the players being shopped around Super League – but it isn’t easy and the focus has fallen back on those responsible as the club prepares to meet Cleary’s Tigers on Saturday night.

Pascoe was the man in charge when the deals were done and while Cleary was charged with putting together the squad, he did it under the watchful and approving gaze of the chief executive.

Things have changed since then, a point highlighted by Lee Hagipantelis to Weekend Read.

“There is that underlying tension that exists in any recruitment between the coach and front office – does the coach get the team they want and if they don’t, how they can be held responsible and liable for results?,” Hagipantelis said.
“Fortunately for us we have a very healthy recruitment process that involves a committee that Madge (Maguire) is part of. There is a very healthy and robust process in place.”

Asked whether Maguire was under any pressure, Hagipantelis said: “Not at all. Not at all. There has been no suggestion that this has been a coaching issue.
“It has been a player issue. That is exactly what it is. Our roster this year is better than last year. We are improving our roster.

“There has been a lot of commentary. We have to take those views on board. All of us agree that we are very disappointed with the results and we need to ask ourselves why.”

The sooner SOMEONE confronts Benji on his future the better if no one says nothing he will think everything is OK and all teams will continue to target him in defence it needs to be DONE TODAY

Strong leadership confronts this situation and steps up and relays the message to Benji there will not be a contract next season this actually should of already been made clear .
With comments coming out of the board Re this situation any wonder this club is such a basket case .. you do not have to look to hard where the Mediocrity bug has spurned from!

Just a thought. Maybe the club is giving Benji the option to walk away rather than be unceremoniously dumped.

If indeed the club has already internally decided he will not be part of 2021, they will probably have that discussion and allow him to move on. Maybe he is setting up his next move if he wants to go on another year so when that is apparent he'll make the call, but you could imagine the absolute meltdown the greater (i.e. the more "casual" if you will,) fanbase will have if the club "gives him the push." **The wider fanbase still has a great adoration for Benji and it could have backlash against the club.

Look at what happened with Farah, they'll be desperate not to make that mistake again.**

Lee is possibly being diplomatic. Unless of course they do want him around and they sign him again, in which case the club is nuts.

This is the problem. These blokes consider themselves above the rest and rely on adoring fans that still have their 05 blinkers on. If they truly loved the club, they'd get the heck out of there before they're atrocious.

Yeah I think he is one of the better journalists around the game. Just the content in this one is so similar to the conversations going on here the last few weeks. I also like Pascoe but hopefully you are right and there is a bit of pressure. We need to make smarter decisions than we have made in the past. I’m still annoyed by where we are now with the squad after Pascoe & Go told us we would have to wait 3 years for the cap to be corrected only for us to then make a handful more cap crippling decisions.

I know Lee is quoted but this kinda reads like it was lifted off the forum.

Why wouldnt madge be under pressure? They all should be under pressure.

Everyone in the building should be feeling it. I mean all we have to do is be in the top 50% of the teams in the comp to play finals and yet we can’t deliver year after year after year.

I agree with him it’s a player issue.

The coach is performing the players aren’t and glad they’ve been called out.

Lee done nothing but talk hot wind so far I won’t be impressed until he secures a decent signing.

That 100% has nothing to do with the chairman role, I hope he is so far removed form signings
