Charlie Staines #262

I just heard on BSB weekends that Charlie extended with us during the week. Zorba was doing his weekly Benji bash and said we have signed Charlie on overs.
I would suggest there is a bit of Manly venom in those comments considering who our recruitment manager is now. Great news on Staines noting the increased salary cap. Another club would have gained Staines if we didn't and he is a great fit for our club

In a way I agree with what he is saying about Benji.....I saw the week 2 training pics, and there was Benji playing ( is he is training too !) Is he just a frustrated ex footy star who still wants to play footy ? or is he the coach...Coach Benji, stop playing and coach I suppose that's what you are paid to do.
I too have my reservations about how Benji will go as a coach, he reminds me of Kevin Rudd, Kevin just wanted to get in and do everything himself, and that didn't turn out so well did it ?
Wayne Bennet has a fair success rate at coaching. He had Peter Ryan for a few years as his defensive technique coach. Peter Ryan would be very hands on and would demonstrate techniques by physically tackling the players. Showing a player how to get to point B is better then telling a player how to get there. Sure he has to limit that to a certain degree, but I can’t see it being a problem. I believe the choice was Sezer for 1 year on minimal contract or Brodie Croft (Fultons option) on $700k multi year deal. I am glad Benji got his way.

He just hammered Benji for not telling anyone he was going to Melbourne. Hammered him for signing Sezer and then added we signed Charlie on way overs. Said that Benji will be a massive failure. He said Benji is trying to be a jack of all trades but will be a master of none. I usually tune out to the regular media bashings we get but this really boiled my blood
Can I suggest not listening then? In this day and age with so many forms of entertainment to get us by, why listen to something that will make you react like that?

Please! I'll hammer the club as many of you know. I will not accept the views of an uninformed, out of date, moronic imbecile from Manly of all places. Please have some self respect, even in our misery.
The choices are not:
1. Criticise the club, agree with the media
Or
2. Criticise the media, support the club.

You can just say when something is good or bad. That stupid prick on the radio is generally bad. Signing Charlie is good. The club is still looking generally bad. Simple!

I had thought of what you said about Benji "showing" different techniques and he may be better at showing than telling them which is ok, it will all just be a matter of waiting and seeing how his coaching pays off, he has such a lot to prove. Good l luck WT's.

I totally agree. I actually usually switch stations when the rubbish talk starts. I don’t normally have a reaction to negative media but today wasn’t just an opinion or normal bagging. This was a calculated personal attack on someone who wasn’t there to defend themselves. I don’t normally listen on a weekend but popped it on whilst working in my yard.

I don’t disagree. Think we should give him a go before we knock him down

If I m Scott Fulton and I want to keep my job I would be telling the godfather to shut the F up - unless the writing is already on the wall for this disastrous appointment.
My thoughts exactly! If the leak to Peter Peters is proven to be old mate, I hope the club have the gumption to terminate his contract and those who recruited him. If it causes crap amongst some managers, so be it!

The point is Benji has very little experience in coaching an NRL team. I don’t know that he had much input at a coaching level when he played the game.
I watched him during a game, when he was asking his left winger AJ to be more shallow in our attack zone. On his second attempt AJ had still not got the message, so on the third Benji threw the cut out ball to where he wanted his winger it landed 5 metres in front of AJ and he certainly got the message on the 4th, running in for a 4 pointer.
My point is that Benji’s inexperience means he is learning about his own teaching style as much as he is learning about his players’ perceptive ability. This is a heap of learning for a coach who doesn’t want to live, eat, drink, breathe the job.

What’s been disastrous about it? I’m not defending him, I don’t care one way or the other about him, but what’s he done, either good or bad? Only thing I can think of is bringing across the Fainu bros who most are giddy over.

I believe the leak is coming from our board and Fulton is being made out to be the leaker as it seems the most obvious. Some on our board are a group of self serving snakes and have proved it in the past by the knifing of Marina Go and the suspension of Pascoe with the NRL.I am not saying Fulton is without fault but he is being blamed for something which i believe comes from the board yet again

Did Zorba mention the Manly recruitment of Luke Brooks, Tommy Talau, Aaron Woods, Aitasi James or Austin Dias, going on to analyse their contracts' pros and cons, values and tenures?
