Chemist Warehouse Injury Report: Round 14

Wests Tigers Media

Tue 7th June, 10:30AM

Wests Tigers can provide the following injury update ahead of the Club’s Round 14 clash against the South Sydney Rabbitohs this Friday night at ANZ Stadium.

After missing Sunday’s game against the Sydney Roosters, Wests Tigers can confirm that hooker Matt Ballin will miss the the remainder of the season.

Ballin, who signed for Wests Tigers at the start of 2016, made his Club debut in Round 11 against the Newcastle Knights after missing the opening 10 rounds of the year with his recovery from an off-season knee reconstruction. After playing in the Club’s Round 11 win over the Broncos, scans on Ballin’s knee showed that the hooker would need another surgery before taking the field again — sidelining him for the rest of the year.

Ballin has not suffered the same injury that he came to Wests Tigers with, and has not ruptured again the same injury which he had surgery on last year.

The Club is extremely confident of having him in the team for the opening game of 2017.

Wests Tigers can also provide the latest injury news on Tim Grant and Curtis Sironen.

Grant (rib) is expected to make his return this Friday night against the South Sydney Rabbitohs, while Sironen (foot) is expected to be available for selection in Round 16.

James Tedesco made a successful return from his shoulder injury last Sunday, scoring a try in the Club’s defeat to the Roosters, and is right for selection this week.

Wests Tigers Injury Report

Tim Grant (rib) — Returning this week

Rod Griffin (knee) — Round 15

Curtis Sironen (foot) — Round 16

Nathan Milone (knee) — Indefinite

Matt Ballin (knee) — Season

Pleased to hear that Matt Ballin has not suffered a career ending injury. Believe Manly picked up much of his money for this year anyway so his recruitment hasn't cost us much. With the season half over and our finals prospects not good at this stage, he won't be missing anything too exciting at season's end other than Mad Monday!

Bad news about siro, I was hoping it would be a few more weeks

That is harsh i dont wish injury to any of our players.I dont rate him overly as a player but could never hope they are out due to injury

Im just saying I don't think anyone in the first team at the moment deserves to be dropped for him and don't want him anywhere near the team till he " gets good ".
I don't trust taylor not to pick him

So they are saying Ballin has injured his another knee ??

Same Knee …not ruptured ACL..different injury requiring surgery that will put him out for the rest of the year,,,,

Well why not tell us what has happened Geo ??

Seems strange …......

Trying to think unless it is bone damage or a bad dislocation what would keep him out for the season ??

PCL worst case is usually 8 weeks

No idea why they wouldn't just say what he's done. If it's a combination of injuries like a medial or a PCL involving further damage (short of a tear) to the ACL then they might have just decided to go in and do a full reco, which would explain the long recovery.

Fair enough

If it's the same knee they'd probably take their time to make sure it's fully healed and he's match ready before stating anything else. And of course, under-promise over-deliver. If he's out for the season, but makes a miraculous recovery and is back in 8 weeks it makes us think wow, our medical team must be great!

For the life of me I don't know how we can offer c sironen a contract…..hes out injured again. 63 games in almost 5 seasons.

I don't think current management or coach would have resigned Curtis for 2018 if they had a choice.

He will be pretty fresh in his mid 20's at this rate 😢

Maybe his knee cap split in half too.

Really strange the way that report reads, making the point it is not the same injury but not saying what it is.

when you do your ACL, you usually pretty much do your MCL and medial meniscus too. a surgery would suggest it might be meniscus flaring up again. it's quite common as far as i know but curious to see what could've happened.

The only other thing could be a MCL rupture , but usually when you damage that from what I understand that you also damage the PCL and ACL , even in a minor way

It can take a few days to diagnose , might explain it …...

A meniscus is a 2-3 week injury , a fully ruptured MCL could be it , but yeah , it would be unusual not to injure either ACL or PCL's or both

And MCL initially are supposedly the most painful of the cruciate injuries , I can't remember him being in extreme pain , I remember another defender swinging around and collecting his knee at one stage and thinking the worst , but nothing happened
