CHRIS Lawrence can now hobble around without crutches for a few minutes at a time but remains uncertain about his NRL return from a shocking hip injury.
>
The Wests Tigers centre moved freely as he ran a LivePlayWork fitness session at Leichhardt Oval today.
>
And while Lawrence said his rehabilitation could not have been better, the best-case scenario is a return by no sooner than the middle of July.
>
The 22-year-old was unable to drive for a fortnight after he broke down against Canberra at the end of March and revealed he also had troubles tying his shoelaces.
>
"I'm still under the impression it will take three to four months to recover but I'll know more once I have scans in a few weeks time,'' Lawrence said.
>
"The rehab has been coming along well but I'm not a good spectator.''
>
Now Lawrence is well and truly out of the representative race he endorsed Jamal Idris, Mark Gasnier and Jamie Lyon as the leading centre candidates for NSW.
>
"Some people have also written off Michael Jennings but you can write him off at your own peril, he's so exciting to watch, explosive and can score from anywhere on field,'' Lawrence said.
>
Also at Leichhardt today were fellow injured winger Lote Tuqiri, Todd Payten (ankle) and skipper Robbie Farah, who brings up his 150th game against Brisbane on Friday, to help out with the clinic put on by Lawrence.

I guess it is one of those things - he may very well 'feel' ready by June - but since you can't really assess how strong the joint is, you just have to play it safe and ensure that you have given it enough time to heal.

We really miss rowdy and lote on that left side. that is our main avenue of attack. we just need to hang in there until we get a few more back form injury and we can give this comp a real shake.

So he can only "hobble around without crutches for a few minutes at a time but remains uncertain about his NRL return from a shocking hip injury".
AND, in the very next line
"The Wests Tigers centre moved freely"

Quality journalism.
Whatever the situation is, come back soon please. We need you!

Saw him today and he was off his crutches for most of the day. He was walking with a slight limp and was getting up and down stairs without them. He finished the afternoon on the crutches but was very jovial and seemed genuinely happy and positive abotu his return.

Just wanted to add his Kids Clinic was fantastically organised and great value for a full days activities, the kids loved it. Robbie, Big Red, Todd Payten, Dwyer, Aaron Woods, Matt Hyland and a bunch of the NYC & BRET players all put in their time to helpout.

i reckon july is being very optimistic at best.

Middle of July is still 12 weeks away you will be amazed at how quick once things turn around with his hip once he starts moving forward and gets over the injury itself . I think he will be back either side of the bye round 16 or 18 . Hopefully we can be 7-7 going into round 16 and then make a late run win 6 out of last 8 which will give us around 30 points which should be top 6 .Then we will be masters of our own destiny

seemed pretty confident on the news last night … but can someone tell Kenny Sutcliff...... it's LAWRENCE OF LEUMEAH not LEICHHARDT

Has anyone heard any updates on Chris Lawrence . Remember reading that someone said that he was less than 6 weeks away and ahead of progress . Also should of been having test either last week or this week to check on blood flow to hip area . Personally think he will be back either side of the second bye Any info anyone ??

Good question, at the time of the injuries we were told it would take six weeks before they would know the full extent of the injury and if their was any permanent damage to the hip or joint. Also their was a condition ( dont know the medical term) that could set into the joint that would cause him all sorts of problem trying to get back on the field. The little bits we have been getting from the club seems very positive but we need the six week update

Yeah that test you are talking about is the blood circulation test or it could get (forgive the spelling) neucrotic which would mean the joint would be literally dying due to lack of blood circulation to area .

Does anyone have any more news on Lawrence ?? I am praying he makes a full recovery. His form was amazing in the opening rounds.
