Chris Lawrence - The Ghastly Story

Lawrence seems mentally strong so as long as his face heals, I think he’ll comeback. I also think the lengthy time off could give his body a rest. It could prolong his career. Of course I don’t know, just coming at it from a glass half full, mindset.

I recall in early 70s West’s Magpies bought down a Brisbane Souths forward Jim Murphy. He earned a place on Australia's 1971 tour of NZ, making his Test debut in the 24-3 loss in the mud at Carlaw Park. Murphy, who was a skilled ball-distributor at second row but suffered a badly broken jaw in a pre-season trial match. He was 26 at the time. It was a bad break but from sound of it not as bad as what Lawrence suffered.

I think that he had further three such breaks again and of course this severely hampered his playing career. He ended up requiring to wear unusual headgear incorporating a jaw brace in his matches.... but did not help much.

It was sad to see .... I don’t wish that on Steve. He deserves better.

@Russell
Yeah absolutely. He has his own business and is financially secure ..... I will be surprised if he decides to play again.

You will be surprised..

Lawrance will be around a few years yet @Russell he doesn't need to work for the Club at all but I'm betting he will be involved in community programs through his fitness business with Wests Tigers well into the future..

Spoke to him last Tuesday night at a members function. No talk of retirement and was starting weight training this weeks but said he was still quite few weeks from playing. He has lost a lot of weight, I say he would be lucky to be 80kgs.
Anyway, you could not meet a nicer guy , if the NRL want a player to sell there brand you could not go past Chris
