LOYALTY, playing directly outside Benji Marshall and being part of a young squad capable of winning several premierships are the three reasons Chris Lawrence will become a Wests Tiger for life.
Lawrence will officially agree to a five-year $1.6 million deal with the joint-venture club today, and last night told The Daily Telegraph why he happily signed his life away.
Such are the raps on the 22-year-old, Tigers skipper Robbie Farah rated Lawrence his successor and future leader at the Tigers.
"The club gave me an opportunity when I was younger, so to show them loyalty is great," Lawrence said.
"I'm getting the chance to play with high-class players like Robbie Farah, Benji Marshall and Lote Tuqiri, and looking at it longer-term, some of the guys coming through the club, I can see them developing into top-line first-graders.
"I know with a lot of boys in the Toyota Cup, we've got some really good talent and I think we'll have a strong group the next three, four and five years, and that made my decision easier knowing the club was heading in the right direction."
Lawrence's new deal was first revealed in The Daily Telegraph last Friday, but he spoke for the first time about the decision that is sure to be welcomed by all Tigers fans this morning.
The young flyer has formed a lethal combination on the left wing with Tuqiri and continued to grow his partnership with star No. 6 Marshall.
"I think Benji is the best player in the game at the moment," Lawrence said.
"He's definitely helped my game and to have an opportunity to play along side of him for the next four or five years, and also knowing he's here long-term as well, that really helped my decision.
"I've got Lote on the outside and Benji on the inside, so I'm spoilt for choice."
Lawrence bagged a double in Saturday night's scrappy 20-12 victory over the Warriors, and was keen for Saturday's match-up with Canberra, which pits him against former Australian Schoolboys teammate Joel Thompson and in-form winger Blake Ferguson.
Lawrence said the Farah was delighted by the signing news and rated Lawrence genuine captaincy material.
"There was a fair bit of interest in him from other clubs, and in my opinion he's one of the best centres in the game and a future captain of our club,' Farah said.
