Chris Lawrence

He's not a center anymore, but would go better in the backrow than some of the other options we have there. With Fulton's retirement it makes sense to use the opportunity to move Lawrence there. Problem is we don't have any genuine centers that can then take his spot that are NRL standard.

Use the Fulton/Anasta money on a new center, one who has experience, good defense, good lateral movement, good speed/acceleration. Then phase them out as Seve and co start NRL.

I agree with this and thought Chris played well. Still rushed up on his own though, and gifted the opposition wide men a free run, so I'd agree with a move into the middle where the defence is more about attitude and less about decisions. And if he times his runs like last night he could go well there.

I just hope he backs it up because this is the standard he should be at every week not a few times a season.
 
Credit where credit's due. I though he was one of our better players, definitely in attack. I agree, the showed a bit more speed and actually, almost broke the line on several occasions. Almost.

Not sure what you mean. He does everything at 100%.

I don't think he was as good as a 7/10\. He was better but his hands and not being able to turn around quickly let him down again IMO.

I've been happy with Lawry for most of the year.The fact is he has improved in 2014\. His hands have been his biggest enemy though this year. He's running the ball strongly, moving better in general than he has previously, defensively he's improved as the year goes on. Gives me hope for next year and beyond if i'm honest.

It may not be anything like he once was, but he can still be valuable to us.

Wish everyone would stop going on about the injury it happened years ago . His form has been garbage in the centres his defensive reads are poop flying out of the line whereas when took a hit up he was great still a great tackler but I think it's time to move into the middle

he was a fast centre that used to out run Slater, it's a fact that the injury ruined his career he has no speed at all now because of it, the hamstring injuries everything. your right though maybe he should be at lock now but there is no room for him and right now we have no centres
 
He did play well.

I feel like his weight is his biggest problem. If he lost 10 kg he would be so much faster and elusive. But what I'm thinking is that he is probably trying to lose weight and it's not happening. So what would happen if he tried to bulk up? Maybe he would be a devastating back rower, especially with his speed?

I'm not going to give up on Lawrence but I think his passing game needs a bit of improvement (he just runs lines, doesn't really set up his winger).

I did think it was a bad defensive read for manly,s first try. Admittedly Brooks made the mistake of sliding in when not necessary but instead of pushing in to cover Brooks mistake he raced up then slipped over. Stewart could have driven a double decker bus through the gap this created. Other than that I thought he was ok compared to the overall team performance.

X2\. For a seasoned first grader this performance should be routine, not one off. Far from convinced about cl as a centre.when was the last time Chris Lawrence beat an opponent with pace or evasion, one year, two years ? He just ain't got it no more.

Maybe I'm looking at it through different criteria - From what I saw - Brooks was also partly taken out and Stewart received the ball before going behind his own player. The behind camera shot showed this which was straight down the ground. The front on shot was from the sideline and gave a false angle. Hence it was a shepherd and a penalty - NO TRY!

With regards to Lawrence - his biggest problem is being a great club man.
He has been trying to cover for team mates most of the season. It started with Koro - he'd come in and then Rowdy wouldn't know what to do; stay out - rush in etc. Then it was Brooks early on as well - he has got a lot better as the season has progressed and so now has Rowdy. People just see the winger rush in, Rowdy holding back to try and cover the unmarked winger as well as his man. In the end most off the time he misses the tackle and everyone blames him. In actual fact what he should do is stay on his man and bugger the rest.
However a good club man does not do this and so he is the one that gets crucified.
We do not have a better experienced centre to replace him with (not that I would anyway). He would not make a great back rower in my opinion.
So it is as a centre or nothing as far as I'm concerned. I am sure once we have Simona, Teddy and Moses playing 6 next year - I'm sure Chris Lawrence will be back to his very best.

I agree Lawrence is not the dynamic runner he once was but I think he does at least puts in 100% every game.

Something which I think is being missed is the types of plays the TIgers run these days do not capitalise on his strengths. A few years ago Benji used to hit Chris coming back on an angled run which rarely happens these days (although he scored 1 or 2 weeks ago from this). Look at his possesions in last few weeks and see how many of them are in a good attacking position, most of the runs are straight off dummy half for hit up. Similarly for Simona, how often do the Tigers run plays to use the outside men effectively? The sweep plays worked ok when Tedesco was playing but essentially they crowd the centres and reduce their options, often reducing them to catch and pass roles.
 
Two ok games this season. Not great, but ok. Hardly worth raving on about. The sooner he's gone the better. No back row, no centre, no bench. Just go.
