Clubs chase Laurie as Tigers stand him down from firsts

… Why did _**_Bay Runner's_**_ posts get deleted?

Someone gets their posts taken off for expressing their opinion???

Gee

im sure saint benny will fix him up thats the beauty of having a superstar coach like him he can take an avearge player and turn them into a good player or better.
i thought laurie needed more time but its clear he has real attitude problem which is hampering his progress. he's probably already lined up a deal elsewhere and putting the crap in now to get the release.
its a shame coz he could really fire if his head was in the right place.

Dont worry folks…Wayne Bennet will fix him up .

 …...yeah, just like he fixed Head's issues?

If the article is correct, and the kid fails to turn up to training (and in doing so has an attitude problem) - then not even the great Benny will put up with that.

Laurie has his destiny in his own hands. He can put in now and reach the potential we all know he has, or I can see him back on the mid north coast in a couple of years with a beer gut and a story of what could have been!

With the constraints of the salary cap plenty of tough calls have to made and you cant carry to many players who come under the category of "could be's". At 25 their are a lot of younger guys without any "Baggage" competing for the same spot on the roster.

Daine offers plenty, crowd magnet, media magnet and like many I love seeing his charges, but will he win you more matches than he looses thats the 100 to 1 question. I can understand him wanting more chances in FG and more dollars . Iam sure Sheens knows what he is doing and has a long term plan for big Daine, but some players need to be handled different, I remember Gould saying with Andrew Walker, that he let him do his own thing because he could never get him to conform to a routine. So maybe big Daine just needs to be handled a little different or given a bit of leeway.

Anyway glad its not my call You are dammed if you do and dammed if you dont !!

I'm hearing that Souths would love to take Daine under their wing and score a double with him and Halatau signing on…

His attitude is not upto NRL standard.. u can tell by the way he plays… he is a very aggressive player but once he does his play or move he stops...

if he goes he goes. if he stays, he needs to pick his socks up

TRoy

i think the clubs are lining up arent they? some club will snap him up, get him up to scratch, arent we doing the same with taumata? same govno.

Laurie has always appeared to me as a player with outstanding potential. However, he is a long way away from meeting that potential. Wherever he is, he will require a lot of work to be a great player. I would love to see him playing regular first grade for the Wests Tigers in a year or two but not this year. I wouldn't have any problems with him moving on if he can't wait that long.

Thank god he wasn't out there tonight. Who knows what brain snap he would've pulled off to cost us the game.

Exactly right… & exactly the reason he's not 100% ready for first grade as yet... but yeah massive potential....

I don't like that just because he was dropped he goes whinging to his manager to find him a new club though...

And why should the tigers top up his contract to keep him?
We have a contract with him, that he has signed which means he'll be here unless the tigers release him... upgrade or not...

What would be the best thing to do if you were told you are not up to scratch ? You would prove people wrong by having a real go and showing what you can do. If by the reports that he did nothing on the weekend playing for Wests and then indicating he wants another club, then let him go.

He would have been floundering last night and would have been a huge liability. I like the guy and what he brings but if the attitude and the committement is not there then bon voyage.

Talent

1\. a special natural ability or aptitude: a talent for drawing.
2\. a capacity for achievement or success; ability: young men of talent.
3\. a talented person: The cast includes many of the theater's major talents.
4\. a group of persons with special ability: an exhibition of watercolors by the local talent.

Why does everyone keep saying he has talent?

OK he could fall into #2 but so could any of us.

He's one of the most unco players I've ever seen in 1st grade, looks completely lost most of the time.

Certainly in no way is he a natural.

If Daine ever succeeds it will be through the perseverance of coaching and his own desire and will.

and the little fact that he is 6 foot a thousand, is tough and can run hard.

(who agrees with most here that he is missing/wasting his opportunities but if anyone can't see his potential they arent looking)

Hope we can work it out with him but if he is really hanging with Mudine and co then let him go.. please.

Certainly seems disctracted and lacking the hunger to suceed in the nrl.

There is a piece on this in this week's RLW magazine. Sheens has said that the story is basically crap and that Daine isn't going anywhere. He is contracted for next season and the Tigers have an option for him in 2011 also. Sheens has told Daine what he needs to work on if he wants to be playing FG regularly and it is up to Daine to put in the hard work to improve his game. Laurie's manager also apparently rang the Tigers after the story broke to assure them that it was off the mark and that Daine has no issue with the club.
