Coach Benji 👑

Benji is a second year coach last year Galvin this year Luai. He is not equipped to deal with this. It’s a problem we brought onto ourselves and the risk with a rookie. It’s a long shot it’s turned around unless we get serious recruits in and talented assistant coaches.
I'm not quite sure about this first bit of the narrative?

Tigers history is unfortunately full of players underperforming, walking out or falling foul of the coach.

Benji walked out on Potter
Farah got offside with Taylor
Moses got off the Ivan Cleary bus, followed by Tedesco and Woods
Nofo was dumped by Madge

I personally think a lot of it isn't tied directly to the calibre or experience of the coach, I think it's very much tied to the long-term under performance of the club.

In terms of Benji I actually think his player rapport and mgmt is about as good as I've seen from a Tigers coach, from the outside. It's not just his close history with well-regarded mentors like Bennett and Sheens, but also his own career and football intelligence.

I also measure this by player retention - despite the results we've mostly retained our target players under Benji, which is not historically a strong point of the club. He's basically lost Stefano, Galvin and Luai, the latter I think we were quite OK to see go.

My main concern is how Benji or his successor can build a team that competes for more than 12 rounds. And I'm at a loss because we've done it all with coaches - appointed great ex players (Benji, Terry Lamb, Junior, Potter), highly intelligent assistants (JT), established coaches with a track record (Ivan), hard-head disciplinarians (Madge).

We otherwise changed the CEO, the Board, the governance, built the COE. The only thing we haven't tried is jettison HBG and that's not an option.

Pointing to Luai’s exit is an easy scapegoat ..: it wasn’t like he was walking out the door the next day … he was supposed to remain here another 18 months at the time …

Players come and go from all clubs .. and most of the guys in the team have come from somewhere else

If this has upset the playing group and was the reason we have seen with such a dramatic from reversal ..,we need some new players
I always say - surely they can't all be that weak-minded, that someone leaves and the entire season derails?

You can still turn up and make your tackles every week, surely.

Doesn't matter who the coach is we still have the "Elephant in the room" problem that WILL always stop us been successful.
The 4 Boards need to go, and we need to be under one board.

Surely someone with some brains at NRL knows this and can act on it.
Its so glaringly obvious.

Leadership and standards start at the top.

Richo came in and took control. He put safguards in place to stop the cancer spreading from above. They didnt like it and they pushed him out.

It all falls on deaf ears. No one cares. No one has the power to do anything.

Im very close to getting my kids to follow another club, because even if we do have short term success, by 2033 we will be back to the same basket case. Its a cycle that will never end.

It wont be hbg out, it'll be my family out. Life long supporter with a grandfather who played for the magpies and other side who were balmain tragics. No one cares.

The more I think about it the more I think Brad Arthur is the man.
Someone posted he is like Madge, too hard on his players and not good with Islanders. Well, firstly, I have never heard anything like the negative narrative around Arthur like Madge, not even close. In fact, the Parra boys loved him. After 7 or 8 years and a dip in form he wore thin, ill take that anyday. Secondly, Madge has no issues with Islanders, in fact I would argue many have liked his harder edge. Luciano loved him and credited him for making him into an 80 minutesl player. He played his best footy under Madge. Papali'i signed to play under him and the NZ boys responded well to him. So im not sure where this so called issue with Islanders has come from and brings comparison to Arthur who himself had an Islander as captain of his team.

Arthur learnt so much at Parra, and he would bring the very knowledge we need to lift us from the bottom. He currently is running first in the super league as well, so has stepped back into coaching with instant success.

For me, his experience dealing with what he did at Parra is the exact experience we need.

What coach can waive a magic wand and turn Herbert into a competent NRL centre?
What coach can waive a magic wand and give Bula some unpredictability and anticipation?
What coach can get Terrell running hard and tackling hard?
What coach can realise that Terrell and Api should be playing no more than 50-60 minutes each game?
What coach will realise that Makasini is best utilised on the left wing in the short term?

Jarome and Jock have a shit combo. I cannot see us scoring more than 12 points (and thats a stretch)
You are being optimistic that we could score 12 points.
In saying that if both of our sizeable wingers play to the very best of their ability and if a miracle happens and Terrell takes his handbrake off, we could go better than most think we will.

He was doing it at the roosters, so Trent Robinson.

Terrell actually runs hard all the way to the point of contact, then he drops like a sack of potatoes. If he didnt given up so easy he'd be alot harder to bring down.

What do you consider to be a competitive score against the roosters ?
Roosters will get numerous set restarts and penalties early in the game, many of them unwarranted.
We will battle hard and stay within 12 for quite a while and probably tire late and concede 2 late tries because of it.
So within 12 for a large part of the game, within 24 at the finish.

You are a lunatic brother.

No they will surprise you and hang in a bit longer this week.
Roosters are overrated.
Pienty of weaknesses in their team, but they are covering over the cracks because the overall standard of the competition is below par this season.

What coach can tell Terrell to not be first/second receiver in the opposition 20 when attacking (if we can call it that) and completely stifle the play

I'm not sure Cowboys fans or the bookies who have the Roosters at $1.06 would agree with you.
