Coach Benji đź‘‘

What I expect will happen is the club will re-structure the roles of Craig Sandercock, Tyrone McCarthy & Shane Sultana as well as bring in ONE experienced, proven assistant coach. Not sure how the first 3 we evolve but some thoughts ...

Sandercock, I don't think they'll remove him from NRLW head coach but may give him an expanded role like as Senior Coaching Director, to help develop our coaches (Assistants, Cup & Flegg) to free up Benji to focus on fewer areas (NRL, recruitment).

McCarthy, not sure as he's recently been appointed as Pathways Coaching Director (+ pt Cup coach) and this is where he has a lot of experience. I do like his attacking structures in Cup so an Assistant Coach role not out of the realms of possibility.

Sultana, has the best record of any coach in our club the past 2 seasons except Sandercock. After this 2nd season in Flegg, I'd like him to be promoted to NSW Cup coach.

@jrtiger have you heard anything on coaches for junior reps next season?
2016 Sandercock was assistant under Jason Taylor...
Let Sandercock stick with nrlw

I really liked the why we started against the drag queens ,
That been we hit up right , then spread the ball out along the backline , only problem was we have no speed to get around the defence, but it did look good then after 20 minutes, we just went back too one out hit ups , NOW if they went of the game plan , why didn’t BENJI , get them back on track, he’s standing on the side line , use ur bloody voice benji

Maybe we could get a penalty goal early in the piece and we could be proud of getting on the board
I played a game of local.league in far west Qld one year. Rocked up to help because the team had only 12 players against a 17 full strength team that was fit and ruthless(petty too). I put myself at centre so I could have time to have a breather one or twice a set. It was 56-0 after 35 minutes or so and we had the ball and snapped a field goal making it 56-1. The crowd went wild with shouting and beeping horns. Was the highlight of the day.

So if the Tigers are getting pumped would like to see somebody do something instead of licking it to the corner every set after 4 hit ups please.

He's made wrong decision after wrong decision with team selections. AD not being moved out of 7. Jarome not getting dropped for poor form. Ruining Latu's development playing him in different positions with minimal game time and confidence building. Playing Javon Andrews on right side of field vs Canberra after tumultuous week of headlines. Makasini getting exposed at centre all season. Skelton and Turuva defensive deficiencies being rewarded with weekly selection. No plans. Just throwing darts at the board
Other than that, it's all good.

You can blame it on injuries, but facts are facts. We went backwards this year.
Benji's built a culture around brotherhood. There's pros and cons to this.

A pro is when things are good, they're really good. The team's vibing, everyone's feeling each other, they sense what the other is going to do and more right decisions tend to be made e.g. when to throw that pass, what line to run etc.. Thats how we won 05. Its probably also why they couldnt back it up in 06.

Now a con with this approach is that a slight fracture in the playing squad can cause things to deteriorate quite quickly. We saw it with both Galvin and Luai. Two players Benji wanted to build a club around. Two players he handed the keys to. Its no wonder things went south.

But things dont just go wrong here, they fall off a cliff because the club has no backbone. Its not the CEO in this case, it's above him.

I asked AI to help demonstrate how leadership dysfunction cascades down:

--
1. Modeling and "Permission Giving"
Employees pay close attention to what gets rewarded, tolerated, or modeled by leadership. If a board or CEO acts out—whether through aggressive infighting, passive-aggressive communication, shifting goalposts, or lack of accountability—middle management receives a implicit signal: this is how you survive and gain power here. Behavior that would normally be seen as unacceptable becomes normalized.

2. The Fear and Self-Preservation Cycle
Dysfunction at the top creates unpredictability and low psychological safety. When lower-level employees see leadership throwing people under the bus, acting territorial, or hoarding information, they naturally shift from driving business outcomes to self-preservation:

- Siloing & Hoarding: Department heads stop collaborating and start protecting their own resources or metrics.

- Cover-Your-Asset (CYA) Culture: People spend more energy writing email paper trails to shift blame than solving actual problems.

- Sub-Group Politics: Lower tiers split into factions, mirroring the political divides seen at the executive level.

3. Direct Behavioral Adaptation
Managers mirror their superiors' emotional regulation and leadership styles. A short-tempered VP who gets yelled at by the CEO is statistically far more likely to vent that pressure downward onto directors and managers. This creates a chain reaction of operational friction down to entry-level staff.

This year we were 5 and 2 before Luai went to PNG. The Tigers comfortably beat a decent raiders side at leichardt, with wild scenes in the crowd. It was the absolute peak of our season. We were a genuine chance to beat the sharks, but had 50 put on us. Things were looking good. Even blokes like James Graham, Luke Keary and Brent Reed, who often crap on the Tigers, had bought in...

So where did it go wrong?

Luai.

Chammas only landed him because of our own dysfunction. Without the clauses, Luai wouldnt have been free to speak to PNG till November 30 2028.

Luai had clauses so if the club self imploded again, he could walk away.... and on December 1st 2025, the club didnt disappoint. Its also kinda ironic that Luai was considering removing the clauses under the leadership that those who hold the keys didnt want.

Unless Benji makes solid decisions around his coaching staff this off season, then we are not going to climb the NRL board, we can't kick, can't hold a defensive line, and run out attacking options in the final 3rd. Yes beginning of season we all dreamed finals but it was taken away very quickly, and the true depth was exposed. Luai and AD exposed the flaws in Benji's management skills and this needs to be corrected ASAP.

Someone needs to make the decision for him.

Most of our players can't count or are blind. As spectators we can see the opposition moving players around to get overlaps. Amazingly our leaders cant. Why.

Benji thinks we can create overlaps more affective by running Bula from the back of the scrum, same tired old move that 8yo's sitting at home are yelling, oh no, not this shit tactic again.
