Coaches Trainers for 2012

Now the season has ended and I have had a few weeks to digest the season that was ,I'm interested with the replacements for the departure of our assistant coaches and trianing/fitness staff for next year.I know Georgalis was apparently coming but have seen no real confirmation?. I read with interest in another thread that Manly have used the least players for this season and over the last couple ! a lot of luck comes with injury the likes of Lote /Lawrence/Dwyer/Danella can't be helped but the Manly issue with other injury aspects must be highlighted as there seems quite a lot of difference in the way our players are managed in this respect .The amount of hamstring injurys alone over the last few season highlights this,I am hoping there will be a differing approach over the off season to rectify this as I see this as a real problem that has creeped into the club. One would think the appointment of a new fitness person from outside of the club could rectify this, I don't like internal promotions for this type of thing. So can anyone enlighten re these appointments.

Please don't let it be skando, love him as a person and player but please let us get an elite trainer from outside

Yeah cause he's just an old frontrower who only knows how to carry a water bottle right?

Geez give the guy and the club some credit - I'm sure if someone is employed in an important role like this he will have the appropriate credentials.

Thanks helmsy, I worked full time with the Nrl squad for two years in 05/06 and believe me, there is such a thing as a 'job for the boy's! Skando is a wonderful bloke and is learning the trade well, but trust me (as I am well versed in the industry) he isn't on the same level as many of the elite Nrl trainers, all I'm saying is I would prefer an established trainer with quality experience

Hey logic, seems there is a few of us that have worked with the team. It's interesting seeing some perspectives on here.

What did u do, there is a fair chance we know each other

TBH , I noticed that skando had been appointed fitness and conditioning coach for the under20s . Despite being a massive fan of skando the player and not knowing if he had qualifications etc ….. I thought this job was way too important to be assigned as "a job for the boys" and was A risky move . I sincerely hope , for the sake of our team , that his duties with the 1st grade side remain strictly confined to the provision of water .

This is purely from an external point of view and happy to be proven wrong but this whole Skando as strength and conditioning coach has the same characteristics as when Cherry Mescia was in that role. Note the difference when an external hard ass like Folkes was brought in.

Yeah the good trainers can work you within an inch of your life
Was fortunate (or unfortunate if you annoyed him ) to have dealings at school with Steve Nance
They didn't call it Steve's Suicide Squad for no reason

Folkes came with a reputation of getting his players fit and lasting the season. It seemed to me that we had far more injuries with Folkes, including hamstring problems. We may have reached the finals but the team looked stuffed at the end of their last games…whereas the other teams seemed to have more gas.

I thought Folkes was a "High Performance Coach" which I would imagine would be different to Skando's position of "Strength and Condition Coach".

You would also have to think that both positions would require the applicant to have the appropriate training, courses, certificates etc and that any position in the make up of coaching staff and trainers would not be filled with someone that hasnt got these.

I'm sure whoever replaces Folkes would be fully qualified, regardless whether it's someone from within the club or outside.

I honestly don't think there should be an issue with some jobs for the boys. In Skando's case, I think it's a good thing to have a former player, one who the current players know and respect, as an on-field trainer, as they often take more in of what they are saying. Folkes obviously did a great job with the group, but I don't think there should be a massive uproar about Skando being there…

Does anyone know what role is planned for Georgallis next season if he comes ??
My guess would be would takeover from Folkes ??

Yes Matty I hope skando is an on field trainer too, but that's a world away from a strength and conditioner, high performance coordinator is above s+c coach too.
Georgie is not replacing folkes as a high performance coordinator, he will replace gentle purely in a coaching assistant role

Thanks Tigerlogic
Any idea if they will replace Folkesy's role Tigerlogic ??

I think it's safe to presume so, but the fact that folkes and Sean burns are not there that position will have to be an external appointment.. Fingers crossed for someone elite. If that is this case they can possibly afford to promote skando to s+c coach
