Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire says his players will let their football do the talking as they look to bounce back from a slow start to the season.

After losses against the Raiders and Roosters to open the 2021 campaign, Wests Tigers will be aiming to record their first win of the season when they face the Knights in Newcastle on Sunday afternoon.

Maguire says his players have responded well at training throughout the week and is optimistic for a good performance at McDonald Jones Stadium.

“They’ve had a good week’s training. We have done a big review on last week and know what needs improving, so I’m looking forward to seeing it,” Maguire said.

“They trained well and we did what we needed to this week, but at the end of the day it’s about what we do on the field.

“The combinations will come back together with [Luke] Brooks and Adam [Doueihi] so I’m looking forward to seeing that come back together.”

Wests Tigers will receive a massive boost with Maori representative forward Zane Musgrove selected for the encounter after serving his two-match ban for a shoulder charge in the All Stars game.

Musgrove — who will start at prop in Maguire’s side — will be eager to start his new season on a high after missing most of 2020 due to injury.

“Zane is a big figure amongst the organisation and I’m looking forward to seeing him go out there and do his job,” the coach said.

“He’s aware of what he needs to do and he needs to start building combinations amongst the boys.

“Jimmy [Tamou], Alex Twal and Zane have put in a lot of work over the pre-season and they’ve worked on their combinations, so I’m looking forward to seeing that come together.”

Couldn't care less if they have a good week at training - execute the plan on gameday.

That's what Madge is saying too. Sounds like they always train well and forget it on the field

Wonder how the honesty sessions went..

You can't make an omelette without breaking some eggs..

If Madge cannot get the Tigers going who would be the next coach. Not much to choose from.

Mary McGregor is looking for a job

Wow
A down vote for a comical answer

So who's the Grumpy bugger ?

Just stop talking and start playing with execution and effort.

Steve this week has proven again that our purpose in the NRL is to soften and wreck the top teams in the comp for their next games....
We softened up the Rorters and Souths put them to the sword this week...
We softened the Raiders the week before and the Warriors beat them today....
Gee I hope we can soften up the Knights tommorrow and beat them before someone else does...

Perhaps the gameplan is the issue. We seem robotic, scripted, inflexible and lacking in the spontinaeity that WTs' teams were renowned for over the years.

If the best we can do is threaten out halfback with being replaced by Hastings then Maguire may be in the sights.

On the other hand, perhaps it's execution under pressure that's the problem.

I remember Mike Tyson was asked by a reporter whether he was worried about Evander Holyfield and his fight plan, he answered;

“Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.”

The Roosters gave us a proverbial "punch in the mouth" early in the match, and look what happened to our game plan.
