Compressed defence

I really hate Taylor implementing this defence. The players need to go forward against there opposite then slide. How many times have oppositions exploited our technique? Our centres and wingers are useless anyway but id still rather. straight defence up and under…

Hey look at the bright side , very few of the Saints conversions were from in front of the posts

We are screwing with NRL goal kicking %'s , we should be proud

Taylor still coaching us , didn't you read the memo Seantice

Geo is coach now , blame him

I expect to be beaten up for saying this, but the ideology is sound, its our interpretation on the park that sucks.

Lets agree that Frozone gets sucked into the same man as Moses, seems kind of simple correct? Yet Lockyer had a minder and it wasnt the centre… Tony Carroll was a 2nd Rower. Our up and in fails in the middle, with our props jogging away from behind the markers instead of forming a defensive structure with any impetus. Once the ball moves wide, they jog over instead of accepting responsibility for the next man, and the failure is exposed on the fringes.

Grant has been the man on the spot on 3 break aways down the guts, 3 weeks in a row, today rushing up instead of switching off, and our benevolent captain is the worst offender in the slide from the middle.

I will also say I think Taylors style of playing everywhere and being super busy has an effect on the numbering breakdown, though I find it a cop out to blame him for others not being able to count and shift.

Yes in theory it is ok. However we dont have the defensive forwards to lock up the middle. The centres and wingers are getting hung out to dry by the lack of fitness and hunger of the forwards.

Let's face it. It's tough for the forwards and the centre's and wingers coming in because our halves are liabilities in defence. It's a compounding problem when you don't trust your team mate to make the tackle.

The whole compressed defence is to protect our weaker defenders. If they cant defend they shouldnt be in the side in the first place.

Sounds like you are just choosing who is hung out to dry….

Take Nofo for example. He doesn't trust Moses ability to tackle on the inside and he has Kev the liability on the outside.
Poor guy doesn't stand a chance trying to cover both of them.
He isn't the real problem. It's who's around him.

My comment was tongue in cheek but not really , if we don't compress the line we will truly get thrashed

Like the 1999 Wests days thrashed …..

Can fans deal with that

Absolutely. There's no urgency from the middle players to move with the ball and assist the wide men, who are inevitably up against an overlap. Of course, they then often make poor decisions which just exacerbates things.
The whole execution is broken. For all the talk (players and staff) of tightening the defence over this summer, it's just as bad as ever, if not worse.

Finally did not concede points in the 5 min period before and 5 min after halftime.
Let too many points in the first 12 min.

Lockyer and Maloney are 2 of the worst defenders in the last decade. Check the stats. Thurston is run over in dramatic fashion every game… The records of the teams they play in speak for themselves. Forget the man, notice how the other 12 on the park make up for it!

None of those tries scored against Nofo's wing were his fault. He has to deal the poor defence produced every week by Naquima and Moses. Naquima has to be dropped next week and replace by a defensive centre (not a forward). Moses will have to play at 1/2 back. Lawrence is not providing the attack or defence needed at first grade level and he to must be dropped. To rub salt into the wound, Dragons' backline are rated nowhere near the top of the NRL.
