FOUR decades after their original formation, KISS certainly still knows how to put on a Monster of a show.

In the first performance of their milestone 40th anniversary year, the rock ‘n’ roll superstars kicked off their Australian tour with metal band Motley Crue at Perth Arena last night.

It was a larger-than-life spectacle featuring all the KISS concert staples fans have come to know and love over the years including make-up, high heels, pyrotechnics, blood spitting, fire-breathing, guitar licking, sparking guitars and a levitating drum kit for the band’s first live show on Perth soil since 2004.

And age proved to be nothing but a number to co-frontmen Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, who strutted around on stage oozing every ounce of the confident rock star persona they’ve always embodied.

The loyal KISS Army battalions were out in force, packing Perth Arena to the roof, rocking face-paint or official merchandise and screaming the words to every song.

It was a hit-packed two-hour set featuring the likes of Detroit Rock City, Shout It Out Loud, I Love It Loud, Psycho Circus, War Machine, an acoustic version of Shandi and Black Diamond.

There were a handful of newer hits from their latest album Monster, which was released last year, including Hell or Hallelujah, Wall of Sound and Outta This World, which saw guitarist Tommy Thayer take on lead vocals.

The crowd pleasing three song encore exploded with Lick It Up, I Was Made for Lovin’ You and Rock and Roll All Night.

Not a band to stand in the shadows, Motley Crue took to the stage with their own brand of showmanship earlier in the evening, kicking things off with a grand entrance featuring the band waltzing through the crowd, flanked by girls and spraying smoke.

Girls, Girls, Girls, Kick Start My Heart, Home Sweet Home, Dr Feelgood and Shout At The Devil all featured and drummer Tommy Lee wowed the crowd by taking his drum kit on a 360-degree rollercoaster ride.

Irish rock band Thin Lizzy performed a set including Killer on the Loose, Don’t Believe a Word, Suicide, Jailbreak and The Boys Are Back in Town on the night.

Thanks for geting me pumped AHX

Went and saw Neil Young last night…..MASSIVE disappointment. He played only 3 songs that I knew (no Old Man, Needle And The Damage Done, Long May You Run or anything) and I have been listening to him for 20 years.
TBH if you have a ticket and can get rid of it do it, unless you want to hear 2 hours of friggin distorted jamming. Can't believe how bad it was. For an absolute music legend to just self-indulge and not please his fans was hideous. :imp:

Bring on Soundwave and Metallica tomorrow, there will be no disappointment on that one :righton:

Well that show definitely kicked some serious arse. I'd go as far as saying Crue upstaged Kiss. Unbelievable

Good stuff…it sounded like u had a pearler of a night! Metallica on Monday proved why they are the top of the tree I reckon: to have 40 or 50 thousand people spellbound like they were playing in your loungeroom was friggin unbelievable! Live music is a thing of beauty, especially from the legends of the art.

i got a last minute ticket to the concert.
Unfortunately Vince Neil could not finish the set & Nicky Six says that he's going to the hospital.
It wasnt bad - the concert that is.
Paul Stanley cracked me up - he said " Sydney you always welcome us with open arms & open legs"
What do you say to that.
Get well Vince.

Went to the gunners concert last night. Awesome show. Sweet child o mine and knockin on heavens door were the highlights, could hardly hear him through knockin on heavens door over the crowd.

I saw the Offspring up here in Brissy last Saturday night they were awesome, they sounded better than Blink and were just a touch more engaging and entertaining.

Guns were really solid, surprised me just how well they played. 2 and a half hrs flew by. Estranged and Don't Cry were the highlights for me. The Seeker was pretty awesome as well

Saw Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band last night. This guy is a complete legend and showman.

Backed by 15 talented musicians. Huge wall of sound

Played 23 songs including lots of his back catalogue.

For a 63 year old he moved, crowd surfed, danced for nearly 3 hours.

Best concert I have ever seen.

Has 2 more shows in Sydney this week.

As Molly would say Do yourself a favour and see The Boss in action you won't be disappointed.

I got dad a ticket for himself and mum for last night and they loved it. They said he was really good. I think they did say he didn't sing 'Born in the USA' and 'Hungry Heart' though.

Very envious of anyone who got to see The Boss, it would have been an incredible show no doubt. No "Born In The U.S.A" though?….that is criminal in my book- how the hell could he leave that song out?

I forgot to mention the other night just how good Thin Lizzy were opening for Crue/Kiss. Probably one of the most under-rated Rock and Roll bands in history

Yeah, but that was mainly due to Phil Lynott, he had a unique voice. Not sure how their songs would sound without him singing. Did their current singer try to sound like him or did he have his own style?
You can replace any other member of a band and still sound the same but replacing a singer is a whole different story.

Bruce Springsteen apparently does not include Born in USA in his set anymore as it has been misinterpratation by so many. It is an anti-vietnam song.

Bruce always performs his signature song "Born to Run" and usually includes Thunder Road, She's the One, Tenth Avenue Freeze Out (all from the CD Born to Run) plus Badlands and Dancing in the Dark.

Does a 5 song encore with the lights on so everyone is up and dancing.

No flashy lights, fake blood, just pure rock and roll (yes I am very old school)

He is brillant and testimony of a performer who has been at the top of his game since 1975.

Tickets still avialble for this Friday so if you have a few dollars in your budget. Always tape the game.

I would love to see him play Nebraska in it's entirety at a smaller venue but it will never happen
