Concord to extend Sheens' contract

Not sure if it has been mentioned elsewhere, but this was in the Herald yesterday. Probably just more speculation!

TIGERS TO CALL TIME ON TIM?
HE shares his time between two roles at the moment but Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens could soon find himself as full-time Kangaroos coach with Tigers officials making moves to replace the veteran mentor at the end of the next season, when his deal expires. While star playmaker Benji Marshall won't be happy with proceedings, and the majority of the squad like the four-time premiership coach, many believe it's time for a change at Concord Oval. Former Dragons coach Nathan Brown, who returned to Sydney last week for Christmas from his role as Huddersfield coach, is understood to be in contention for the role. Tigers officials admire his penchant for free-flowing football.

It should be added that it's pure speculation on the Journo's behalf.

That's where the article was posted. Now before you all start getting excited I just want to remind you that this is just Josh Rakic's opinion and has no substantiated evidence that the club is singling out Nathan Brown. It's clear that Rakic is fishing for a story. In saying this, it's no secret that Tim doesn't enjoy the luxury of having full support from the Tigers board.

I've been waiting for someone to mention this. I was away for boxing day and only read yesterdays paper today. It has to be bullpit. Nathan Brown? Reallllly? Let Fitzhenry captain coach the side you would just about get the same outcome.
I dont rate Brown at all. The only clear successor for Sheens that i can see is Folkes.

I actually think the style Brown coaches would suit the current crop of Tigers very well.

I'm not sold on Folkes as a head coach, he is great at conditioning, fitness and defence but does seem to have a preference for more dour, grinding football. And personally i'd prefer the Tigers to keep playing expansive, attacking football.

Just my opinion.

nathan brown is a tremendous coach who was just thrown in way too early at a club he should never have coached. it would be like benji retiring and then coaching us 2 years later.

i have no doubts he would be a great fit for us, seriously.

I guess it could be worse - Matt Elliott may be a fee agent soon.

cold Shivers down my spine

I'd just like to add that when people read this they should also be reminded that muffins can be quite fattening…..especially during the festive season :unamused:

Nathans Bro in law wrote this surley

JOKE

Hump wont allow it - NO MORE JUNIOR COACHES

Six years coaching NRL and 2 going on 3 in the ESL hardly equates to a junior coach

Sheens will go when he wants, to wherever it is he wants to go, to do what he wants, and whoever replaces him will be who he wants to replace him….internally seems his way

Although its pure speculation by a jurno from the sunday herald, it would not surprise me if it came to fruition. I just get the feeling the time will be right for a change and I get the feeling that the club has already sent out a few feelers in Brown direction.

Dont get me wrong their is no way the club would push Sheens, I think Sheens maybe looking for another challenge and I would imagine he would be offered a role in the new commission or something along those lines or as suggested take a full time role as the Aussie coach.

Anyway its a good motivation tool for 2011 what ever happens.

This is reassuring - Sheens will be mindful to whom he hands the reigns over too.

But Why Browney?? This is what I dont understand.

I hear Hogo had massive raps on Brownie as a coach and Hogo is still very well regarded in tiger town and magpie town

Wow… Gettin sick of Jouno's writing speculation rubbish. Australia needs new laws in this regard!

I lost interest in this article once it mentioned Sheens as full-time Kangaroo's job. (no coach has survived after losing a Trophy in that role for 30years, and I highly doubt that will change in 2011)

Sheens is getting another two years it runs out at end of 2013 should be made public in few weeks its a done deal and thats from a friend inside the club

We would not have sport sections in papers if we banned jurnos from letting their imaginations run wild. As I have said, Sheens will go when Sheens wants to go, their is no way the club would push him and with the majority of the players extending their contracts to 2013 and beyond you would think he is here for a few more years. In saying that a powefull position in the new commission or something along that lines might change his mind.

Not many of these little pieces of news paper fill ever come to much but in saying that the big stories usually start off as a little piece on the inside back page and than develop from their as the story breaks.

i would like sheens to move into a football operations manager within the club or something like that…we had a great year last year but it was our first in a long time and only our second in his 8 or so years here...personally i would like to see him move on after 2011...but not leave the club...he is too valuable and too well respected by the players

Didnt you say last year Sheens, Marshall & Lawrence were going to Souths and Simmons would take over here?
