okay

so is it going to be a case of him staying in reggies, or the case of him playing first grade and us fans and him putting all drama behind him...

if he remains there is no way he's playing reggies.

Agree Avo - I would sit him out for 2 years. A lesson learned for everyone that comes to WT.

What lesson? That we'll pay you >$800k to do nothing for 2 years? Not much of a deterrent and at the same time our best player sits on the sideline and eats up salary cap money. Struggling to make sense of that argument sorry Russ.

Matterson is clearly a bit of a brat but if we're paying him, he plays.

Or tanks.

There is zero upside to your scenario other than throwing money down the toilet. We're already wasting enough money with people like Reynolds, Packer and Liddle on our books. We don't have any more to waste.

Just my opinion - which I am entitled to Avo.

Yours is play him and see if there are consequences. You are entitled that opinion.

If he tanks for two years noone will ever sign him. this isn't a Moses type situation where he'd already signed elsewhere.

@avocadoontoast He's on the verge of gaining a SOO spot based on this years performance. If he tanks his SOO chances are shot.
He also appears to have a high opinion of himself. I can't see him allowing his rep to take that kind of hit.
Just suck it up and keep moving.

Latter!

I just hope he doesn't become a Moses version 2 - a revised version but better lol

Those two “Attitudes” should just get married. What a gift for the “worms”!

All true, but apparently the players aren’t that impressed with him. Will they want to suit up next to this bloke?

@avocadoontoast He will just break his contract and go to another code if we sit him out or refuse release...

If he doesn’t tho...a player who hasn’t played a game in 2 years will not be getting a bigger contract than 350k..no one will take that gamble..

@weststigers That's up to the coach to manage.
If his gambit comes crashing in around him, and if he's smart, he might just pull his head in. Bottom line is, it's his to lose.

they could and then let him struggle.....true footy justice

The other question will Freddie want a spoilt dummy spitting upstart in his plans going forward he's involment with SOO was at Madges suggestion I believe

He may very well be close to having to stick around, but you watch, there's always a last minute scenario. I reckon he'll move on because the club will decide that ongoing bickering, turmoil, headlines and general instability within the squad isn't helpful. On a positive note, if he's demoted to reggies, we're surely getting close to a winning team there. :fist:

Plus the $340k odd of cap penalty that we are missing from the Farah debacle.

He is extremely close with Alex Twal.

What about the other 29 players?

I would rather he stay then send him to Parra or Penrith, they can go to hell, POM said Parra started this rot, so I say if that is the choice he stays, or Parra come up with something really special

Matterson is in demand and will get his increase. Only his destination and what player(s) are traded for him remain unresolved.

I don't see how a player swap can be done in the NRL, all the other team can do is release a player early but only if he signs with us. Why would the Titans want to swap Arrow for Matterson anyway? Arrow is currently the better player, they can't be that desperate to save cap money.

The package deal sounds more likely, they can have Matterson only if they sign Packer, Reynolds or someone else Madge would like to release. The Tigers player would also have to agree to the deal, would we have to pay some of their contract?

The player being released for the swap will have a great bargaining position.

The titans would swap Arrow for Matterson if they knew that arrow was definitely leaving in 2021. If arrow leaves they'll have a hard time replacing him as they're a laughing stock. If he's going and they can guarantee a replacement that's a long term win for them. Because in 2021 they have Matterson, rather than neither which is what will happen if they don't agree

They can’t force Arrow to come here if he doesn’t want to. I don’t know who the he’ll we’ll end up with but I’m guessing they won’t be as good a player as Matterson was for us. Unfortunately we are stuck between a rock and a hard place - keeping Matterson will cause team disharmony, letting him go elsewhere doesn’t guarantee us getting a decent player in return.

Arrow has stated that he is interested in moving to Sydney so that his wife can get more work as a model.

Sydney yes, but that doesn’t mean he wants to play for the Wests Tigers. Plenty of other more attractive options in Sydney.
