@Spacecub damn when was that

I think it was from a forumer who said his mate asked Arrow if he would go to Wests Tigers and Arrow replied, "I would rather go to Syria than play for Wests Tigers"

Well that’s just bloody lovely isn’t it. He’s happy to play for a crap team and get the wooden spoon, but abhorred at the thought of coming to us! Why the hell are we so maligned by players all the time? We are far from the worst team in the comp.

Because we don't stand for anything! I've asked the question before, who are we? When we were Balmain, we played at Leichhardt. When were Wests we played at Campbelltown. Wests Tigers play everywhere. We have no home, no tribalism. We are a manufactured commodity who have never planted any roots.
I think the Souths book of feuds is a massive wank, but at least it gives them something. So ill ask again.......What the ...(fill in the blank) do we actually stand for or represent?

I can tell you 100%, i have spoken to a current 1st grade player, and they feel homeless. The answer when i asked about BankWest is "it's not our home". Now thats not to say it can't be, but by not planting roots anywhere, we will never grow.

Well the 10 year lease with anz didn’t help just have to grin and bear it until that’s finally over.

Yep agree. Unfortunately grin and bear it until we have an admin that bite the bullet to make us belong to someone.

I think it's amusing at the chatter on how the COE will help. Love the idea, and we do need it, but it will be far from exclusive.

Plenty of other teams building one; Eels building one in Kellyville. Sharks behind their stadium. Manly in process of building one also.

I think the point is it will bring us in line with everyone else instead of being behind.

True.

If that is true, then there is only one reply to give to Arrow.

We are relocating to Syria....

Imagine the membership cost!

We'd need multiple home grounds as well lol

This is a great post.

I am in my late 40s and was a Balmain fan all my life, but I'd be happy to give up the whole LO thing / whatever...if it meant we had one home ground.

We need something.

Parramatta finished 80% home wins this season and smashed the Broncs. They have a home field advantage. Manly does. Storm do.

We need one.

Of course they don't feel like it is home, just as a good number of WT members and supporters, because it is PARRAMATTA stadium and the slimeys have the mortgage on that being their home.

For starters, pure hearsay about what Arrow might think about Tigers. Secondly, nobody who currently plays for Titans can, in their right mind, be criticising other clubs.

Regarding the roots or home grounds, I don't think Tigers are particularly unique amongst Sydney teams and I don't really understand the angst about "not standing for something".

St George played out of 4 stadiums in 2019 - Jubilee (Netstrata), WIN, SCG and Mudgee. They would have played a 5th except the Magic Round was an away game for them. This is exactly the same as Tigers.

Bulldogs 2019 played mostly out of ANZ, but also took 1 game each to Bankwest and Belmore (3).

Souths played mostly out of ANZ but also took 1 game each to Central Coast and Sunny Coast, as well as the Magic Round home game in Brissy (4).

Roosters played mostly out of SCG but took 1 game each to Adelaide and Central Coast, with another home game during Magic Round (4).

Anyone seeing a pattern here for many Sydney-based sides? Basically, Dragons and Tigers only had an extra home ground on account of their merger past, but many Sydney sides have 3+ homes in a year.

I don't know how any Sydney team can realistically feel "at home" at a ground they share with someone else. Bankwest, we all know is temporary and it's next door to Eels HQ. But ANZ is a generic stadium and you can never make it truly your own.

I agree with a one-stadium concept, but let's not fool ourselves that it will be some home advantage for us if it's on of the big stadiums.

And Manly, Sharks, Penrith can potentially trumpet their single home grounds, but we must recognise that these are all pretty average 20K capacity stadiums, no better than CSS or LO, and only singular because they are not JVs.

Well when the government sees fit to give LO or CSS a $360M rebuild I am sure we'll aim for a strong home record as well.

So Manly have a home field advantage, and Storm, you say. What about Titans, Dragons, Sharkies, Knights, Panthers, Broncos, Warriors, Cowboys, Bulldogs?

Isn't a strong home-field advantage more about being a good side and less about precisely where you play? If you play well, they will come? So to speak.

If Tigers are good week on week, we'll have good home crowds and thus good home advantages. It has happened in our finals years, and as a fellow ex-Balmainer you are painfully aware that playing exclusively at LO didn't make for a powerful Balmain in the 90s.

Personally I'm all for a single home ground and I would make it the refurbished ANZ, once it's finished and we can take a look. But I don't ever expect to have ANZ to ourselves and thus it can never truly be a home fortress. At best it is neutral and we take it over at home matches.

Even a reduced-capacity ANZ, which they plan, will swamp a normal Tigers crowd of ~15K, so you won't generate the true home atmosphere until you are winning matches and drawing upwards of 30K per game.

I don't know about the 90's smell but otherwise I agree.
As a Sydney outsider I really don't care where we play as long as it's a good place for the team to call home. But I'm beginning to believe this is one of Wests Tigers main priorities. Get one home Park and stick to it.

Easy to say but hard to have happen the almighty
$$$$ has ruined this game with inducements to play at the big stadiums I can see the day when CSS & LO will be given the go by with ANZ or Bankwest being our home

Sad to say it but both LO and CSS are last their use by date. We need to make a tough call.

How come Kogarah and Brookvale are not past their use by date?

They are. Without private ownership saints and manky would be dead. Can't we compare ourselves to someone that's not dirt broke?

I'm trying not to play into what other players think about WTs too much. The vibe of a NRL club can change pretty quickly on the back of a few successful seasons and playing semi final football majority of the time. You can re-write the same stuff over and over again, but until Madge rebuilds the roster after our 💩 contracts are done and our winning % increases then I guarantee you our vibe will be better. Patience again WTs fans.

Is Matterson leaving because we don’t have one home ground?

BankWest is a great stadium but I just can’t warm to it as a home ground.

If Arrow wants out of contract and a move to Sydney sooner rather than later, won’t matter too much what club he wants, like Matterson it becomes a case of who will the club agree to release him too. Alternatively like Matterson they see out their respective deals at their current clubs.

I think it's about time we release a statement:

"We love Ryan Matterson. He's a great player. We have given him permission to talk to other clubs, but if suitable compensation can't be arranged, he will be a key member of our club going forward. We are open to renogiating his contract at the end of next year if his performances remain strong."

It's just meaningless dribble. Players will come here. It's not all doom and gloom. If a player doesn't want to come here good. Let him go.

Please let's not ignore rosters when looking at results. No matter where you play and how often if your team is not performing well and your roster is poor you will lose. Why are you not mentioning the Titans with their home ground or Penrith with a great roster and a home ground advantage and they still didn't make the semi's.

With Centre of Excellence at Concord. I think for long term prosperity we need to make ANZ refurbished our home ground and grow to exceed 25k average per game.

Maybe 1 game each at leichardt and campbellown for heritage round or something

I think we need to stop making excuses for well paid underperforming players who if they are good enough, have the right attitude, are coached well should be right to play where ever they go and if so will win more games than they lose.

What clubs have managed this? Even at the mythical average the stadium will be just over a 3rd full. Many more empty seats than occupied ones.
