Just posted by Michael Chammas. The Money Grabber is free to negotiate - has a relationship with incoming Holbrook at the Titans. Lets make this work in our favour now that he is as good as gone....

Yep. Found this interesting from the article

The Tigers are aware of interest in Matterson north of the border, however won’t agree to releasing him to any club unless they reach a favourable outcome.

The club is in the process of drawing up a hit list of targets to replace Matterson.

The joint venture is on the lookout for a fullback and would entertain a swap deal for AJ Brimson.

The Titans, who declined to comment on potentially signing Matterson, are trying to free up space in their salary cap for next season, with several players being shopped to rival clubs.

The option of placing a transfer fee on Matterson’s release has also been discussed.

The Tigers showed last year, through the way they handled the Ivan Cleary saga, that they would only release someone if they benefited from it.

That came in the form of a $250,000 compensation pay-out.

If we have decided to let him go we need to make the most of it. They need to take one or or two of our other nuffies with them as well.

"The club has been dealing with Matterson on this issue for almost two months, when concerns were first raised about the forward’s feelings towards coach Michael Maguire." <-- someone probably told him to raise concerns and start trouble about the coach since he has a history of it at Souths... the funny thing is that's in the past and none of our current roster has any problems with our coach - again if his heart is not in it then let him go but we should benefit from whatever dealings there is to have

Won't get an argument from me avo. Also seems that new titans coach is managed by same firm

To say the very least everyone is furious, Matterson is acting like a CHILD !
Don't rule out Jai Arrow the money he's on for next year is not overly more than what we are paying Matterson.
If Arrow would agree to a move in 2020 & increase in $$ for 2021 it's a real chance.
Madge does also rate Brimson highly.

Matterson hasn't really handled himself well but it's become evident over the past decade that Maguire is a polarising figure. Not doubting the mans coaching ability but not sure he's the easiest person to get along with. To even contemplate moving to GC rather than entertain an upgrade here isn't a great sign.

Holbrook also mates with Josh Reynolds.....if we have any brains at all, we should say 'yes, you can have Matterson...as long as you take Josh'

Package deal or nothing.

The club HAS to now use this as an opportunity to move Josh' Reynolds contract.

@THE_POM sounds like he's as good as gone mate thanks for the info, cant have the lunatics running the asylum

ONLY if we get what we want, otherwise he'll be here in 2020.
His actions as described in the article have been unprofessional.
The club has bent over backwards to make this work & try to find a resolution but have been met with nothing but resistance.

Would there be any chance of Brimson for 2020?

@Telltails If any player is unhappy to play with us, and is on a contract, and is a player we actually want to keep , leave him in 2nd grade, until they are prepared to play 1st grade again. Otherwise you will get more players just opting out of contract for any sort of minor reason. Sooner or later they are going to realise the value of getting a contract anywhere else diminishes if you spend a year or two in 2nd grade, which also shows other clubs that you have an attitude problem. Put the onus back on the player not on the club. Also gives the chance for a younger player to show there worth in first grade. Garner is proof of that. We currently have Mcintyre, Seyforth and Bradley all at 100Kg that on our books that have had a chance yet in first grade , give them a go.

From a fan perspective detached from the situation makes sense, however again you are overlooking the relationships within clubs and how that impacts on team harmony. Coaches don't need that distraction. Matterson has close friends within the team we dont want to create a situation where they are torn between their unhappy mate and the decisions made by the coach.
The onus for this situation sits with the NRL for allowing loop holes in contracts that players, clubs, and managers all take advantage of.
It's in no clubs best interest to keep a player in 2nd grade because he wants out. He should be picked on form and Matterson's form does not warrant playing in reserve grade.

Titans Cap is also a mess, whatever they take needs to be returned in kind. They have next to no room to play with in their cap which is also an advantage for us.

I know one thing for certain if i was in the brains trust at the Tigers HQ, in no uncertain terms would i let the prima donna go and hook up with the snake at Penrith.

I would prefer to have Josh Reynolds at the club than Packer, at least Josh puts in 100% and is keen

The Pom, thank you for the info....why don't we use this as opportunity to move Josh also?

Matterson and Josh

Arrow big upgrade using Josh's money plus Brimson or Peachey.

@THE_POM thanks mate, we needed some clarity, although most everyone with any nous deep down knew this was going to be the case
