Did someone say Cleary has given up signing Matterson? I wouldn't believe a word he says. Don't count Penrith out of signing him. They have shed some players.

Spoke to someone from a Sydney club who was in the hunt for Matto. At this point their interest has waned as they don’t want that sort of attitude in their club. Of course anything can happen in the NRL but I wonder how many others are having second thoughts.

That’s what I posted 5 days ago. Like I said, anything can happen in the NRL, but I believe that whilst they have shed players and were interested, the way it’s played out has sent them in another direction. That’s what I’ve been told, take it or leave it.

Apologies if I am a little late on this article but formally granted permission to negotiate with other clubs on Friday afternoon. Can this be legitimate? Doesn't mention anything about us leveraging for a player swap but surely we don't watch him him walk off into the sunset without a plan?

I'd guess that his release is contingent upon the provision of a player swap which meets the needs of WTs. For example, if Illawarra want him, we take Lomax, Gold Coast - Brimson,

Yep. I doubt they could even do a deal for the next 2 years. Sure he could sign at another club post that point but we could always keep him for the next two years. He has also done his reputation a bit of damage so there is a chance he won't get as much as he wants.
