Confirmed: Matterson released from Wests Tigers.

@Cultured_Bogan Couldn't agree more CB. It's ludicrous to suggest we should let Matterson go without compensation. We took a huge reputation hit with the manner of Moses' departure. We reclaimed some of that with the hard line we took with Cleary and we must take the same hard line with Matterson to send a message to other clubs that they can't ride roughshod over our club by taking who they want, when they want. There are two options with Matterson:
- work out a player swap with another club that advantages us
- failing that, make Matterson play out his contact. If he plays well he's in firsts, if he dogs it (like Moses) he's in Canterbury Cup

Absolutely. The club wears the cost when they want to move players on (as they should, no complaints there,) but when a player wants out the player still gets everything they are entitled to and clubs are left to fill the spot and not necessarily with a player of similar/better quality. It has to start going both ways. The guy is prepared to have his management dish out garbage through the thirsty journalists rather than handle it behind closed doors and like an adult so all bets are off for mine.

That's not entirely true..If a play requests a release from his Contract and it's granted the contract with the Club is voided..Wests Tigers won't contribute to Matterson's with Club X new contract..Wests get that Cap space to sign someone else

What he picks up elsewhere is irrelevant..

But @tigeress if the guy really doesn't want to be here for 'whatever' the reason is, forcing him to stay and play Reggies as some have suggested ain't gonna do anyone any good.

We let an un-happy player go and replace him with someone that wants to play for Madge and knows full well all the other conditions re $$$ etc etc etc. results in a much happier player than Matterson will apparently ever be here and a much happier/settled club and Forum :fa-smile-o:

A win-win situation all round

I hope we can find that happy player who wants to be here, and stay here then- I would like an investigation into why Ryan Matterson wants to leave after such a short stint:white_frowning_face:

They generally get whatever they're on at their new club, possibly even more so they do not lose out otherwise they wouldn't go to start with, meanwhile the club has a roster spot to fill and try to find someone just as good or hopefully better to fill it.

Probably a ton of deals all depending on Ben being medically retired or not...

If Ben is, we will have Matterson's contract AND Ben's salary cap room to absorb a few new players.

Tons riding on the decision I'd imagine...

A decision on Mats medical retirement is due this week.....

@Geo That puts the club at a very significant disadvantage. What if there are no suitable replacements available/ including players who for some reason or other don't want to go to the club? The club has to suffer through the nose due to the fickleness, lack of reponsibility and integrity of a player to honour anymore than one year of a three year contact.

Really hope the club comes out of this with a good result for the team. This wont be the last article to try to force the clubs hand into releasing Matterson with a player manager fabricated story. But the general public is backing the club in this one so we should not fold.

Even though looking unlikely I personally wouldn't be against him staying on his current contract and possibly revisit it next season. I would love to say ditch the manager but this would only hurt us in the long term.

If he does leave we must get **current** rep quality player in return.

The Club grows a set and says No..simple

Cap space is nowhere near enough compensation Geo.

As a club, we should say from now on, no further signings will take place for players managed by Orr. That's a suitable stand to take.

Moses, Ayoub and Orr. Running out of managers we can negotiate with.

Orr brothers are parasites. They make a living off others hard work.
No better than pimps.
I also might add, they have heads only a mother could love. Dead set ugly boys.

Both Alex Twal and Luke Garner are managed by the Orr brothers, and are currently in negotiations. They are two of our best at the moment, so it’s important to wrap them up.

I don't believe I said it was..the discussion was about Players asking for a release v Clubs moving on players whist under contract...

In either case both parties have the right to say No..

If Matterson stays the full term it isn't in his interest to turn his toes up

He would lose all his negotiating power

He will still perform , he just won't want to be here

That's normal for over half the population.
Nobody really wants to be at work. I don't like my company but it's high paying.
I'm here for the money only.

@fibrodreaming My turn to disagree. We were given a terrible time in the media for the mental anguish we were inflicting on poor old Mitch. I'm sure Uncle Benny called in some favours with the media. We did not come out of that saga at all well.
