Controversy Surrounding Souths V Bulldogs Ref. Decision

Our number 9 is Lebanese.

Our other great number 9 Benny Elias is from Lebanese descent. Moses too. Kazzi etc etc

Absolutely and good on them. Not a fan of Benny Elias once he left footy(too dodgy) but you could never doubt his love for his heritage and his love for his new country.I think we all remember fondly of Benny in state of origin and a blood soaked Benny smearing his mum with blood(unintentionally of course) as she tried to hug him the look on her face was priceless as the love she had for her boy was immense you could tell by the look on her face.I legitimately have a warm hearted feeling remembering that as I write about that situation now.

The look on her face was one of relief as she realised her son had made it big time in the greatest country on earth.Im sure Benny Elias's mother would know all about "living on the wrong side of the tracks" as she would of lived thru the civil war in Lebanon.I dont hate Benny just think in the business world he got a little shonky but I still think warmly of him and his playing days with Balmain and NSW and Australia. He Also loved another great tiger man to death in Laurie Nichols.Anyways back on topic there is many trouble makers but also especially in the christian community a great load of brilliant Lebanese people too who have adopted the Australian way of life.

As do I.Was at the game and there were kids crying everywhere. Not very often I agree with Des Hasler but when he said this country does not deserve the crap dished up on "good friday"(is that what angered "some" dog fans)I agree wholeheartedly. Not hard to tell from AHX comments who these people are who behave in such hero status in large group numbers.Same ones who have zero dreams of assimilation with the values of Australia.Having said that Tony33 I enjoy reading your thoughts on this matter cause you tell it like it is.I certainly am starting to like what I see from the Lebanese community cause you and I both know that more and more people of Lebanese descent are starting to denounce these people(within their community) who act like immature pea hearted heroes.

These times that we currently live in I am thoroughly enjoying in the sense that I am seeing more and more people from Arabic background say hey I might be of Middle eastern origin like you but you my friend are a grand tosser. These wankers are starting to get less and less.Trust me.Just takes time to weed out all the crap but we are certainly winning the fight.the fight aint against lebanese its against those who give Lebanese a bad name by their actions and their anti-authority and Anti Australian ways.

See this is why i hate the bulldogs and their fans as much as i do, probably more than anyone else. Their obvious stereotype mean that myself and many others like me have to deal with the consequences of their barbaric, immature and disgusting behaviour.

What people need to understand is that you can't simply say "the lebanese community", it's a much more specific group both overseas and in Australia. The lebanese community is extremely different to other Middle eastern societies because it is more diverse culturally and religiously (60% Muslim / 40% Christian); however due to the stereotypes all sects of the Lebanese community are painted with the same brush.

I am an Australian of Lebanese descent and I hate going to Bulldogs games because of these grubs, my sister last week was trying to convince me not to go to the game. Many of my relatives and friends go for the Bulldogs because it is their local team. All of them hate their own supporter base because of the reputation they now have due to these imbeciles and their immaturity and gang mentality. All of them like me are Australians of lebanese descent who consider ourselves lucky because we get the best of two great cultures.

In the middle east there is no lebanese, Iran, Saudia Arabia, etc, etc. There are Shia Muslims, Sunni Musims and Christians. The Christians had no chance in between the Sunni-Shia war and moved here and overseas in search of a better opportunity and life. Unfortunately they followed and unlike us were unwilling to assimilate and thus have this us against them gang mentality that results with what we see at Bulldogs games (back on topic).

It is such a shame that we as an Australian community have to be afraid to attend a football match with fear of being king hit or worse. I just hope the Australian community aren't naive enough to think we are all the same and can understand that we hate them more then anyone else for the reputation they give us.

Ps. I HATE THE BULLDOGS AND GO THE TIGERS :sign:

I have two lots of neighbours, among others, that are Lebanese faimilies…christian Lebanese.
Couldnt meet nicer people, generous, friendly...kids polite...a world away from the others.

You see, this is the real Lebanese person/family. Go to the North of Lebanon and this is exactly what you would get, especially if you are a tourist. Unfortunately, the actions of one section of the country ruin it for the whole nation and its people domestically and internationaly.

Dear Raelene, you certainly have your work cut out for you.

The grand final which I attended six months ago was the first Bulldogs game I had been to in four years.

I stopped going to any games that my team plays against the Bulldogs because I got sick of the mindless aggression of many, not a few, of your club's supporters.

I was once punched by a Bulldog supporter while my letting nature take its course in the men's toilets. I was spat on once while catching the train home, and that's not to mention the attempted intimidation by bands of Bulldog supporters who seem to be buoyed by safety in numbers.

I gave up going to any Bulldog games.

It's not enjoyable. I have better things to do with my time.

Your club has some serious issues among segments of your supporter base.

I've long since stopped listening to the "family club" tag.

It was once a family club, thirty odd years ago when the Hughes and Mortimer brothers played, but it is now a club in need of REAL change, and not just some nice tag lines.

You and the board might want to start with your petulant coach who sets much of the expectations, and proceed on to the club captain, who so often fails to show true leadership qualities.

The rot has well and truly set in. Good luck trying to revive what was once a leading club. It's been overtaken by an over zealous minority who are determined to cause trouble. Dogs of War indeed.

The best post you have ever made AHX. Agree on all counts..

Tony you are one decent Human Being and a great example that you can be proud to be Lebanese as well as Australian . You are grateful for the opportunities that this Country has presented itself to your Family and are very appreciative of that .
Thank you for sharing.

Tony33,what a great example of humanity you are,I certainly hope people adopt your attitude and make our society a greater multicultural tolerent place to live….cheers mate...

the one point that tony made i think says it all, it all starts with the coach, he has got away with bagging the refs for ever and when he gets away with it it filters down the chain. the NRL needs to crack down on des and maybe the rest will fall into line. we will see if the NRL has any balls this week.

agree re Des but he's not the only one . However it's almost always the first question asked by the journos in the post game press conference when they know the coach can't comment without copping a 10k fine . And any hint of displeasure from a coach & it's plastered all over the back page next morning .

I read over the weekend where James Graham didnt understand the rule he was arguing about . Well with his hot head that was always going to be a problem . Maybe the dogs thought the responsibility might calm him down but apparently not .

As for the fans , well , some of them just don't get it . I see it at park football in the Auburn area . Some of the clubs there don't get refs appointed to their games because of previous abuse . One of the parents or spectators have to ref the game instead . That mentality is taught from a young age .

Bulldogs fans have always had issues. I remember going to Lidcombe oval to supports Wests in the late 70's early 80's and for Bulldogs games there was always increased security and even pictures of ban fans at the turnstyles that were not allowed in. When I took my wife to a WT vs Bulldogs game at the Olympic Stadium the Bulldogs fans shouted abuse and throw flares. It appears they use their team as vehicles for their aggression which is uncalled for. Seeing the behavoiur the other day turns famlies off taking their children to watch live games. Sad but true.

I agree in the past Des has been a complete tool, but you can't fault him the other day. Issued an apology, then took the loss on the chin.

I just don't go to Dogs games. I think the last time I went was when we almost hit 60 points. The constant swearing and carry on would have been bad enough but coming from 10 year olds was pretty disgusting. It just got to the point where especially for night games I didn't feel safe and not worry that some clown would king hit me on the way out. I know Dogs fans who won't go to games too. Parra fans aren't too far behind. Saints for the bronze.

That's pretty sad. When you're too scared to go out to see your team because of the behaviour of your _own_ supporters, there is something very wrong. The Bulldogs admin need to do something about it. What? I don't know, but hopefully they will think of something because that's just plain wrong. I feel for the decent Canterbury supporters, I can't imagine being fearful of my fellow WT supporters when attending a match.

Well my brother-in-law is a massive Dogs fan. He can handle himself okay but who wants that at a footy game. His young boy went to a game and observed the Dogs fans and turned him into a Parra fan. What's the solution? No idea. Maybe more security?

I think they'd need the entire defence force in there to curb the behaviour of that lot! Pity they can't stop them from attending somehow, so everyone else can just get on with it and enjoy the games.

I agree that more security would not help. I was hit by a full plastic bottle aimed at me when watching a Tigers v Bulldogs match back in 2004\. Since then nothing has changed with the Bulldogs fans' attitude. Instead of more security maybe their fans need a full course on common politeness.

Can't fault him? Part of his apology included something along the lines of "you people with the pens need to be careful what you write."
Can't he just say that the fans were lunatics, the players behaved appallingly? It's got nothing to do with reporters. But once again, he's tryinng to deflect part of the criticism in some way.

I have to agree WD. Des to me didn't sound sincere. He was told to say it. There was no feeling behind the "Sorry"
It doesn't surprise me one bit though. He might even have been a bit chuffed the refs copped it lol..

just quickly on the whole Lebanese supporting the Bulldogs thing, does anyone else find it just a bit paradoxical that "these people" who refuse to assimilate are causing all this grief because they follow (i wont say 'support') a rugby league team?!

as for the actual Graham incident, well as i have said i have a strong history in aussie rules. while i was watching a game on the weekend, i paid particular notice of the smothering aspect of the game: it is still well and truly a vital part of the game, and i think a point i made previously about Graham having the right idea but simply executing the smother (or charge down as RL calls it) in a very cumbersome manner.

seriously, he was like a labrador puppy chasing a ball and just smacking straight into the fence!!
