Corona impact on NRL...?

It’s a bit weird the NRL is the only sport still playing with crowds. Anyone else with tickets for Sunday in two minds about going?

We're going to watch the Flegg at Ziems Park at Corrimal. There shouldn't be a big crowd so it should be okay. I don't believe it is any worse than being on a crowded train.

No not at all, the government and the NRL both stated the bans on mass gatherings is a precaution so didn't need to be implemented immediately!

I've seen Reggie's games at Leichhardt with the hill side closed off.... It's very odd.... Yiu can hear the on-field discussions

That what gets me, people jammed packed into traind every morning can't be good.

Should be fine down there, you might have a 100 spectators or so. Appreciate a match summary tonight if you can find the time. This should be a good game.

The problem I have is that two days is a long time in the spread of infection. I’m young enough and fit enough that it won’t affect me much but what about all the people I come in contact through work etc who are more vulnerable, that’s what has me thinking about it. I’ll most likely go but the precautions having my thinking.

Meant to say, “another lurker”... how would giving the free streams for their online platform help to reimburse clubs or even get the players (potentially in near future) their guaranteed earnings from TV rights broadcasts’ if they’re selfishly monopolising the monies in the wake of an apparently pandemic virus.

What if Fox has to actually shut down the workplace? No more televising.

How will KAYO or the game itself stay afloat?

Could be a very bad look for them to shirk responsibility like that, at this time. More of a 1 in, all in approach is suitable here and I think that means more than covering THEIR asses

It was just a suggestion. No need to go to town on me. Just ways for the NRL to recompense fans is all.

Sorry mate. You’re right I was perhaps a little careless with my words when passing my opinion, today has had some information passed to me that leads me to believe there is far, far more yet to play out regarding Corona.

As a you g man you’d think I wouldn’t be so worried but unfortunately that’s just the weight of the world at the moment. Have a nice night!

All good mate. No hard feelings. I'm in a high risk group but I choose to see it as I'm in borrowed time anyway and we aren't guaranteed safety so may as well have fun as long as I'm not careless.

Pretty good attitude to have mate. There is no need to be silly about this, follow the advice that is given and enjoy life. I have seen my 6 year old's anxiety level increase over this and I'd much prefer to stay calm and enjoy my life and have her do the same!

I've always had to adopt that attitude. But it really is right. Keep your extremities clean and everything else will be OK. I am saddened that kids think they will die over this. The Victor Chang CRI have stated that kids with or without heart impairment have much better survival rates than adults.

Isn’t it like 0.2% glocally for anyone under 30 to die . 2-5% for under 50 , and like 20% over 65 ?

I have chronic heart disease, born with it and will die with it (and probably because of it.)

Make sure you stay safe during all this mate!!! I want to disagree with you for a long time to come.

Me too....stay safe bogan

The NRL is getting international coverage for continuing to play matches this weekend. Forbes mag is encouraging American sports fans who are missing their sporting fix to tune into the NRL in an article

“Self Isolation Viewing Guide: Here’s where you can still watch sports during the Coronavirus”

“If you’ve never seen the NRL before, then you’ve been missing out. It’s like rugby union, except they’re better at that passing and running and tackling thing; it’s like the NFL, except they don”t stop every ten seconds or wear pads, and crucially, it’s really easy to pick up the rules. It’s the first weekend of the season too: so tune in and you’ll be hooked to Australia’s biggest sport all the way through to October.”

Other sports mentioned include British horse racing, cycling race in France and RangersvCeltic soccer.

Should be compulsory reading but too many believe they know better and there's nothing to worry about.

This virus is already changing the world and it will get a lot worse before it gets better. People have to decide whether they want to be part of the problem or part of the solution. Frankly I don't think the response has been strong or fast enough.

Think the bloke that wrote that article has been watching too many end-of-the-world movies IMO. Healthcare workers will collapse and die from exhaustion?
We will see. Sounds like that bloke should maroon himself on an island for a few years to sit Armageddon out.

Pretty sure the A League will be playing in front of zero crowds ...the crowd last night at the Roar v Mariners game was pitiful for a club who is playing well and winning regularly ...I actually thought it was fan free until I saw the ball go out for a goal kick

That's my take on it too Strongee. Just do what you can do and hope everyone else does their bit too. More people have the virus above those reported and confirmed cases and are fine. I don't think it's going to be the Spanish flu, I do believe the death rate in Australia will be less than that of the common flu.

SARS only killed 700 odd people and that was meant to be the end times. What a beat up that was.

I’m not debating any other that mate . You’re numbers are exaggerated though , but that’s semantics , and I get it , as it rams your point home .
I’m saying for the most part , stop the panicking , follow what the authorities have said , don’t go to public places , wash your hands etc.
And more than likely you’ll be fine .

People are acting crazy mate . 10 years ago in another life , I spent 9 months in a place most people, will never see . With threats all around you. We followe our due dilligence . Did our check but for the most part , went about our day as normal as we could .
Relaxing is not apathy or complacency. And it actually leads to more coherent and thought about decisions as you’re minimising the amount of emotion is influencing these decisions . That’s all I’m saying. The TP shortage is case in point . It’s embarrassing and honestly frightening, because of how feral everyone gets in a crisis .
