For all his faults and ability to polarise, I actually think Gould would be a good boss for the game.
Everyone needs to put his personality aside. He has a successful record and excellent nous.

I blame Gus for all the coaching the refs now do on the field. He was instrumental in many of the poor rule changes that have occurred over the last couple of decades. It would be a big no from me. I would certainly like his input but I would not want him in-charge. He has some wacky ideas he occasionally sprouts.

NRL PUSHING FOR MAY 28 RESTART PENDING BROADCAST TALKS

The Project Apollo verdict to re-launch the NRL season has determined the earliest possible start date will be May 28.

All 16 NRL club CEO’s are currently on a conference call being updated with the latest developments out of the innovations committee meeting.

A drive-by broadside launched at NRL headquarters by Channel Nine has also thrown further fuel on the fire at head office.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported sources with knowledge of discussions that tense broadcast negotiations have altered the plans, with the NRL now considering fulfilling its contractual obligations and playing the remaining 22 rounds of football that could see the competition head into November.

The innovation committee meeting on Thursday decided that the State of Origin series would be played in the middle of the season. A May 21 season return now seems unlikely.
