The thing is, the NRL would’ve expected all that to be sorted now so the warriors would fly over knowing everything.

Channel 9 having a tantrum about how many rounds and how much they have to pay delayed the broadcast deal which in turn delayed figuring out the rest of it. Sacking the CEO in the middle of all that certainly didn’t help.

End of the day it was delayed by pointless whining by channel 9 which may push the season even further back

I'm no fan of Ch 9 at all. I refuse to watch NRL on that station. I have a Fox Sports subscription purely to watch NRL.

But when you blame 9 for a potential delay in the start of the season, I think you, and many others, are missing the point. The blame should be sheeted home to the leadership of V'Landys.

Due diligence in key matters of communication with clubs (take the Warriors as an example), broadcast rights and now player payments shows the man is a dud leader. And, more to the point, 9, the RLPA and Clubs know it and are going to play hardball with him.

I blame both. Channel 9 delayed the broadcast deal but V’landys set the date too early and promised to be organised by now but they aren’t.

well in Vlandys defence

he didnt account for some brain farts from NRL Players and some incompetence from other people

This is the NRL, brain farts and mediocrity seem to be embedded within the culture.

Correct lol. They keep expecting the players to stay out of trouble and be good, and keep giving them small punishments and yet they keep stuffing up. Set the bar very low for these players they’re morons

It didnt surprise me to see the players getting in trouble, I thought they'd get into a lot more mischief actually as a large group of young men. It surprised me the small punishment that was handed out. It seems the NRL are really out of touch, and dare I say it, maybe it wasn't all Todd Greenburg's fault.

There was always gonna be some idiot player caught breaking the distancing law. The fact he posted the photo of it himself was stupider than I could’ve even imagined.

They definitely should’ve got in more trouble. Could’ve brought the whole NRL down

Spare a thought for support, club and coaching staff who were stood down following the cessation of the season. While pay for players is important and more importantly biosecurity concerns must be addressed, these other staff have families and commitments.

The big issue is whether Border Force be available to assist with biosecurity issues once the bordermeister has released them from chasing toilet paper hoarders?

It is a sexist and insulting story on the Channel 9 news referring to the women with Cleary as 'groupies'. They get fined $1000 and then shamed on a news website. We all know the negative connotation that goes with that name. As a parent you would be angry and disgusted at the headline.

This whole thing seems like a media blowup to me. I really don’t think it’s as serious as it’s being made out to be. Seems like it’s almost resolved already with the NRL giving the RLPA a deal about player pay.

The bigger issue is the warriors. They need to know absolutely everything before coming over and it seems they know very little. No one will be training if the warriors aren’t over here

And they could come over here and one day in a player could test positive and the comp gets buried

Lots of people are taking chances .....life happens

Okay, that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t know exactly what the plan is for them, what they’re getting paid, what their support is like etc. They’re entitled to know the whole plan not just come over not knowing what’s happening... pretty selfish to expect that of them

So they come across the Ditch ...find out that the NRL isn't going ahead and have a two week break before going home

Reckon a few of them wouldn't necessarily mind that

Funny though when Darius proposed the same ......

What break? They will be in quarantine in Tamworth.

Well if the comp doesn't go ahead they will have to self isolate before going back to NZ

It's very poorly organised, poorly managed, poorly communicated by the NRL. The players are 'entitled' to know though? There's the problem. This stuff is still being worked out, no one knows the details yet because it's not sorted yet. They can't be told what no one knows. And all that'll happen is they have less time to train together, even though they are already been paid. For every club that isn't the Warriors, it's all about money, plain and simple, the rest is window dressing.

It’s not the players fault it’s not organised. The NRL shouldn’t of set the date so early if they aren’t organised. They were TELLING the players everything would be organised and they’d know everything before they’ve started training. That’s turned out to be a lie and that’s why the players (the NZ boys particularly) are upset.

It is 4 players fault they aren't organized .....

What a ridiculous statement. You think the players would enjoy leaving their wives to look after their children by themselves in the middle of a strict lockdown for two weeks? Clearly they DONT want to take that risk considering they’re not coming over until they know the details

Its called a joke ...

IMO if you cannot handle looking after your own children for 2 weeks you probably shouldn't have kids. Too many people have kids and then whinge royally about how difficult they are to handle, probably should practice contraception......

Nope, that would be too hard as well. Sterilisation would be more appropriate.

Think of another sport, say boxing or NFL or something. Do you think they would start without sorting out the money first? NRL are professionals also. The team and badge does mean something to players, but ultimately they are professionals and I am sure want to be treated as such.

If they want to be treated as professionals then they would go a long way towards earning that tag if a few of them came out publicly and condemned the 4 idiots who have put the start of the season at risk. Come out and say "I believe the punishment was a joke, these fools deserve to be hauled over the coals". I'm sure plenty of them are thinking it, would be great to hear a few come out and say it.

Does Corona target vermin? If so, he's in a spot of bother.

I don’t see how this is the players being ‘spoiled brats’. Would you start working a job without knowing your pay? They’re also supporting the Warriors boys who would have to leave their families to come over here and train and they don’t know what they’re getting paid.

The coaches and players have always been in agreement that they won’t start training until the warriors are over here training. If the warriors choose not to fly over here until knowing what they’re being paid that seems fair enough to me

They're spoilt brats because they are thinking only of themselves. Realistically, they will be very lucky if the NRL starts up again this year, and very lucky if they still have jobs and get paid anything. If the games go ahead, tv will coverage it, and they will be paid something, that's a definite.

Refusing to train, and citing solidarity with the Warriors as they are disadvantaged by coming over with no guarantee that they will be paid as an excuse, is an absolute crock by the Australian clubs. Sick to death of these RLPA idiots.

The players, the admin, the tv networks - for all of them it's only about money. The only people involved in rugby league for whom money is not the primary factor is us the fans, and personally I hoped better by the players. It's not a job to play, it's meant to be a privilege.

I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t put my body and career on the line plus go through the intense lockdowns they’ll have to go through without knowing how much of a pay cut I’ll be taking. That seems fair enough to me.

You say it’s not a job but it is their job, and I’m sure most people wouldn’t work without knowing their pay. End of the day it was only a threat to push the NRL into offering them a deal and it’s worked, now they know what cut they’re taking and everyone can move on.

Channel 9 are the ones who caused this by delaying the broadcast deal trying to wiggle out of their contract + pushin the CEO out at the same time. If that doesn’t happen it’s already sorted by now.

Easy. Tell the Warriors players "you were earning a fortune, you'll still be earning a fortune. Blairy, you're on roughly $10k per missed tackle".
Blairy: "Orrrrr Sweet!"

Jokes aside, pretty much everyone involved in trying to throw this whole debacle together is showing massive incompetence.
Easier just to throw it all in the "to do" tray, scrap this schemozzle for 2020 and see if they can manage to get it off the ground in 2021.

I didn't hear what Benji said.
No need to wait to be asked IMO, some people don't wanna ask the hard questions.
There should be post after post on players' social media accounts where they are coming out off their own bat and stating how disgusted they are with the 4 cretins behaviour and how they have jeopardised every single player's paycheck.

Let them delay. Stand them down on zero pay. When they are ready to play, they can come a negotiate a contract

Ridiculous to expect the warriors to leave their families for months to fly over to Australia to play NRL when they don’t even know what they’re being paid.

Still think may 28th will happen. Maybe a week or two later at the worst

It's just the RLPA posturing and wanting payment guarantees. I am certain there's a baseline offer to players, and I can understand they might be agitating to increase the terms of that offer ($$$ or duration).

Same as Channel 9 and the government. Every time NRL take a step forward, every other stakeholder sticks their hands out and says "whoa we haven't specifically supported this yet". Channel 9 are doing this to weasel out of payments. The pollies are doing this because they don't want to officially endorse something just yet that might go to shit, especially before the PM has his May 11 review of lockdown.

I'm unaware of any other employee having been stood down due to covid that are receiving their FULL pay..?

It is what's to come that is the issue....

Just like everyone else in society ....I would guess they will still be receiving more than the ave Joe...fair dinkum...

Cmon, it’s not the 1980’s any more apparently.

Can’t expect our players to do a days work for a days pay. Can’t expect them to act their age. Can’t expect them to take responsibility For their actions

Please, bring back the 80’s. An age where tic tok meant a clock- not dickheads trying to be celebrities
