Understand your point and agree to a certain extent, but i think Abdo is more responsible for the punishments. As far as V'Landys goes, the guy has been very strong in pushing a return of the NRL despite opposition in some quarters. Its a shame the work he and many others are doing behind the scenes is being unraveled by a few.........well i can't swear so we'll just call them halfwits instead.

He got rid of Greenberg. That is worth a lot in my book.

Getting the game underway quickly has been a good job.
Overseeing the pathetic punishments the 4 clowns got put him back a few notches IMO. A renewed opportunity to stamp some authority down hard on the throats of these imbeciles and he (and the ever-incompetent board) did nothing as per usual.

I agree with your views about the punishments. Interesting in the AFL , the two Fremantle players got nothing from the cops or the AFL. Their club have them $3000 fines, $2000 suspended.
Maybe we're overreacting?

I’m definitely happy with how good he is going with pushing for an NRL return. Definitely could be better with giving the players more info, but I’ll cut him some slack because nothing like this has ever happened before and the broadcast deal got delayed by Nine and Foxtel

Will be a big positive if he does pull the NRL back by May 28. Hopefully he is stricter in the future. Could end up being good for the NRL, hopefully he doesn’t give too much power to the clubs or broadcasters

The AFL have a history of slapping blokes with a feather and plenty of cover-ups. Their media seem to be as thick as thieves and very rarely paint their game in a bad light, to protect their own jobs I'd say. The AFL have got away with plenty in the last decade or so.
Addo-Carr was on his 3rd warning for breaching social-distancing regulations, the NRL should of stomped on him to make an example. He's a slow learner in every sense
Cleary should of been hammered also for lying let alone breaking rules. 8 game suspensions should've been handed to those 2 at the very least.
NRL has limp-wristed the punishments bigtime, no wonder players will kick sand in their face repeatedly again soon. There is zero deterrent. It's laughable.....but doing the game massive harm IMO.

It’s difficult to know what’s worse? Players dropping off tackles and moping through 80 minutes of round 2 after being told about pay cuts. The flouting of isolation protocols.? The lame , insincere excuses and apologies ? Or maybe it’s the threats to strike?
I’m reaching a stage whereby I just couldn’t care less if the season resumes. Being in isolation has given me time to rationalise my thinking about what is really important.

He just started in the gig and had to deal with a pandemic which during this time he has punted the CEO, negotiated to be the only major sport back playing in May (Not just in Aus), negotiated a new deal with broadcasters and is close to having negotiated players pay deals all within weeks & he had to consider international travel for the warriors as part of it all.

NRL 2020: Nine targets NRL digital arm as part of revised broadcast deal
Michael Chammas
Nine Entertainment Co has expressed interest in taking over the NRL’s digital arm as part of cost-cutting measures in a revised broadcast deal.

Sources close to the negotiations say Nine’s proposal for an extended deal until the end of 2025 includes the code’s digital arm, led by NRL.com, which the free-to-air network believes currently runs in direct competition with its two broadcast partners.

Coronavirus: NRL takes step towards return
Play video 3:07 Coronavirus: NRL takes step towards return
The NRL has taken a step closer to a return on May 28, securing travel assurances for its Queensland players.

Nine, which is the publisher of this masthead, has proposed it takes over the NRL’s profitable digital network, which was recently valued at $50m and costs about $15m a year to run, including $10m to provide clubs with digital services.

Nine and Foxtel have been at loggerheads with the NRL for three years, arguing that their rights investments have been used to prop up a digital division that would in the future be pitted against them in a battle over broadcast deals.

The proposal nullifies the potential competition, but also gives Nine access to the NRL’s 1.6 million account holders and the largest social media footprint (5 million people) of any sport in the country.

The proposal also fits in with Nine chief executive Hugh Marks’s aim of redirecting funds away from head office back to the clubs.

In a statement earlier this month, Nine criticised the NRL for its "bloated head office" and "years of mismanagement" and now the company has asked ARLC chairman Peter V’landys to provide a breakdown of how he intends to significantly reduce costs at Rugby League Central. That breakdown has not yet been outlined.

The NRL’s 70-person strong digital department is one area Nine has targeted. It believes it can operate the websites and apps of the 16 clubs, the two states and the governing body under a more cost-efficient model, while also providing content through its Wide World of Sports production empire.

Nine, through rights and production costs, invests about $140m a year in rugby league, which is the equivalent of what it spends on all its news, current affair and breakfast shows across five major cities. It is now wondering if that money could be better spent elsewhere to ensure its own long-term viability.

Marks has put the argument to V’landys that if the broadcast deal is not significantly reduced, the network will not be in a position to bid for future rugby league rights.

As it stands, the NRL is facing losing at least $80m of the $330m in anticipated broadcast revenue from Foxtel and Nine in 2020.

Both broadcasters, using the current state of affairs around the coronavirus pandemic as leverage, want to renegotiate the deal.

Disgusting behaviour from ch9, what right do they have to question where the NRL are going to cost cut and how it spends its money. It's even worse when they are going broke themselves. They are doing this to try and save money by cost cutting in an organisation that they don't own.

My point is the game isn’t back yet. He’s definitely on track to do a really good job getting the footy back but it’s not there yet, so I’m not gonna give him praise for it until he actually does it, but you’re correct he’s done well to get it moving and making the May 28 return seem likely. Also this new broadcast deal doesn’t seem like it’s gonna be fantastic for the NRL if channel 9 get their way

Nothing to argue about V’landys. People already hailing him as a great leader when he hasn’t done anything yet. Not rubbishing the bloke but it’s extremely premature to say he’s been doing a good job considering he’s done very little. I was disappointed at the weak punishments those stupid players got

Only been here a short time but he's on track to get the comp restarting way before any other code. It's enough to impress me.

New admin, same ol' jokes unfortunately.

I agree with your views about the punishments. Interesting in the AFL , the two Fremantle players got nothing from the cops or the AFL. Their club have them $3000 fines, $2000 suspended.
Maybe we're overreacting?

AFL is month's away from playing

What's the relevance? All the players broke social distancing regulations while stood down from club duties.

Be honest I couldn't give a crap what the AFL do and how they punish their footballers

Our players should have got stiffer penalties and the only person who seems to think other wise is Andrew Abdo
