Corona impact on NRL...?

The nrl should take all players and games to Tasmania and shut the island down. They have been crying out for a major sporting team.

I think we have to consider that financially the impact will fall on the players if the competition doesn't go ahead. Many will not be able to absorb this and some clubs may not be able to either. The long term damage to players may be far worse than the short term pain.

The Warriors need to go home and be with their families.

100%, could you imagine going to work one day and your boss saying sorry we need you to stay here indefinitely. Peter Hiku’s wife is due to have a baby very soon, a lot of the squad would have young families. Family has to come first regardless. Imagine if the NRL keeps them here and one of there family members get sick.

I’m sure players can go hom if they need to. They just won’t be able to come back. And whose to say what the players want wasn’t taken into consideration.

If you think the NRL has problems then rugby union in australia will go the way of the dodo .The main competition relies upon kiwis and south africa for competition.Travel bans could kill it quickly as ru in australia has no money as it is a rump sport

Perhaps the biggest problem, is the fox tv deal. Fox have paid billions of dollars for the rights to so many games per week, each week of the season.

What happens when NRL is suspended for a few weeks, or a few months, or most or even all of the season... does Fox just lose that money? Or do they take NRL to court and duke it out there? In Court usually the bigger fish wins, which is Fox.

Anyone know what the media companies are doing with the American sports, could this be an issue, or not?

Lol it’s not billions, but it’s a massive issue. It’s like your membership - you pay and can’t go, you want your money back. You sponsor something and it’s not delivered, you want your money back. No one is a charity, it’s So,ple contract law

It’s not a fox thing it’s a federal govt thing and they usually win.

Hopefully the tigers, Fox and the nrl Have the right insurances in place so I don’t lose out.

Put the tinfoil caps away people and go buy some toilet paper

Why the tinfoil cap comment, why insult people? Insults say more about the person giving the insult than the person they are directing it at.

I still say it's a legitimate question, can the NRL afford it if Fox don't pay some of those tv rights? You say you hope the right assurances are in place so you don't lose out, that's cool, Im wondering if the league can afford it and not go broke? I believe Tyga's post was along the same line.

Tin foil probably a reach and not directly at you, but most of the doomsday preppers out there (And more a sign of my general annoyance) and there are a few. (I’ve got a couple of kg’s of flour and no eggs.... hope you can make Dampier).

You are right, I’m generally fed up at the hysteria filled reactionism. Look at the Facebook posts saying I’ve hoarded a stockpile and FU...they get self worth out of that??? What about your parent, grand parents that are genuinely at risk - do they have food/sanitiser because they may dies???? <rant over>

For the nrl it’s hard, millions tied up, club members, club sponsors, nrl sponsors, tv, radio, online rights. Don’t forget the Media companies that onslold the rights, websites etcthat make money off free content (google Twitter Facebook etc) it’s a clustersometbing financially. We just saw AAP go out of business, what happens to journalism, seriously what happens if no one payS that bills. We get the ABC - Governement controlled - how’s that work in the rest of the works.

What about the nrl/Qrl is sso going Ahead, are juniors impacted, how about clubs without pokies.

No one will pay for something the don’t get, businesses are no different to you and I - except there is a mutually unacceptable position that can be negotiated. A win/win (or at least no ones loose) outcome.

Your questions are real

It’s a massive issue

If Fox don’t pay thier rights fees , I can guarantee old Vlandys won’t forget it come renegotiation time . Fox are on life support and are only kept afloat by NRL and AFL subscribers. This Is all but a fact .
Even if it’s a subsidised amount , just simply broadcast shows like NRL tonight and NRL on fox , who both use the NRL emblem and trademark in thier name , would still provide content for them whilst this is going on , so the idea that Fox are getting nothing of the games are called off , just isn’t true .
This is a real opportunity for fox to basically sure up the next tv rights deal . A shrewd operator would have to be looking at this , this way . Because if Netflix , Disney or amazon decide they want NRL , and it’s just about coin , especially if fox don’t come to the party in this time of need , then they are seriously doomed .
This whole idea of “something for nothing “ is extremely short sighted .

There’s no way Super Rugby can continue with the protocol NZ have in place now. It can be worked around with one team. Would be logistically impossible with 4.

It's valid. It will be very hard for NRL to move on after this financially. NRL players will be infected soon, currently I think the prediction is 1million will be infected in QLD alone. If they want the season to continue, all players must move to one location in full quarantine measures now. It would be rather nice if we had NRL to watch during the testing times this year has.

Just watched the press conference...NRL handled it very well V'Landy's cleary in charge was honest and upfront even Todd did OK..

The media and some of their line of questioning are a bunch of flogs

Game will continue to go ahead in closed Stadiums ..Warriors to base themselves on the Gold Coast play there Rd 2 game against the Raiders there..

The situation is fluid and may change but no need to panic...V'Landy'sstressed that the game is for fans and the social ramifications to give people an escape in times of crisis is very important which Rugby League provides...big tick from me...

Actually the closure of Super rugby will benefit the local Shute shield competition with approx 20 quality players coming back to Sydney grade rugby.

People are mad if they think crowds will be aloud back in 4 weeks time. If anything the virus will be a lot worse by then.

What would they talk about on these shows if no games are being played? Discuss results of the latest players tested?

Quarantine them now seriously. After this round. Move all the players some random location with no visitors. It's the only way I can see it happening. They are going to be pretty depressed by end of season though!!!!

The footy will be done and dusted within 2 weeks ... the Warriors are just the start this alone is laughable ,talk about getting the bandage out ! one case it’s all over , do not get to invested as you are going to be very disappointed .

If the NRL gets suspended there's a good chance they will go broke.

Basically the game has to continue or it will go broke!

Isn't that the same for any business..?
