Unbelievable

EDIT: this video is false. The arrested woman was detained for something else entirely. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=210252883555778

That would have to be one of the most despicable things I have ever seen. Should be locked away for a very long time. Absolutely no regard for other human beings.

How are our NZ neighbours getting it right and us so wrong?

Except they haven’t. Those restrictions they just brought in are the same as we had here before last Sunday but NZ are actually in worse position than us. At 34 cases per 1M they are where we were last week. Yesterday their growth rate was 1.3 which is closer to Italy’s growth rate at the same stage and way above Australian rate.

What have they done better?

Love your work @Tiger5150, keeping it real.

Mate I’m very happy to be shown to be wrong. It’s not a partisan political POV. I find many automatically praise Ardern because she presents unbelievably well and has mastered that “I care about you” face with her head slightly tilted but one of my pet hates is style over substance. I don’t care how she comes across, what actions come from it? I’m sure she does care and is doing the best she can, and what she is doing may be perfect, but I have an aversion to the knee jerk reaction that what she does is sacred and we screw everything up.

Seriously like to see what she just announced was better than us (Different policy on schools?) and with their cases growing faster than we ever did, evidence that what she has done has been so successful.

Hopefully the virus won't be as bad in Australia as in other countries. We have better hygiene. Not being racist but last year we were in Italy and had to clear the discarded cigarette butts away to put our towels down on a beach near Rome. Many countries in Europe are beautiful but aren't clean. Also the population concentration is greater than what we have here. People live on top of one another in the cities. Refugees sleeping on the streets and shanty town pop ups in, for example Paris are not exactly hygienic. Aussies on the whole are more health conscious and we have more space than other countries so hopefully the virus won't be as bad here. But no room for complacency. On a side note with all the comments, graphs, calculations I didn't realise how intelligent the forumers were!

Hmm...on closer inspection it seems the woman being arrested has a different top on than the lady who spat into the fruit.

Also, the spitting lady is not wearing a mask.

Sorry team - I think I've been duped and I think the video has been stitched together to make it look like someone was arrested for spitting into the fruit.

2 different ladies from the looks of it.

The story is she was arrested few days later..... I noticed the different clothes straight away... This been going round all day.... It just doesn't seem to make sense... I just thinking now I wonder if she suddenly sneezed?

Interesting comments in the SMH about the discounts that were on offer for cruises following the debacle in Japan. Both the cruise lines and those who took advantage of cheap deals have some reflecting to do. Also those who had cruises booked and refused to cancel and lose their money
It is a high price to pay to put yourself at risk on an incubator.

They stopped the planes from flying
They need to stop the ships from sailing.

Absolutely. Wasting scarce ICU facilities on patients that are unfortunately unlikely to survive is futile. Better not to have the cruise and prevent the tragic waste of life.

Every life is worth attempting to save.

Triage anyone?

Yes if it gets to that point, I must have interpreted what you said a different way, I thought you were inferring that if you're crook and old, tough luck, go die at home. Apologies if that wasn't what you meant.

No apology required. I am just upset an old lady would chose to go on a cruise and risk (end) her life in this way.

Who believes the next stage of restrictions will be the lockdown of the Ryde Eastwood corridor?

My aged parents are there and it is of great concern, as is that my son and I were often staying there for his mental health, until I told him earlier this week that we no longer could, as we were endangering them with our movements.

That corridor seems to be a hotspot in terms of exposure. I hope your parents are going to be okay.

Fair comment mate. I haven't done that level of analysis. I just know that NZ was first to action the borders and we should have had that schools policy last week with kids from essential services only (I don't believe that is NSW policy yet?).

They do benefit from a single level of govt and I think that's a big factor. The division of power in Australia makes it complicated with states coming up with different approaches and creating confusion. Same thing happened with the fires.

If what you say is true regarding their growth rate, then I'll retract my comments.

NZ closed borders to all countries (no previous bans) on 19/3/20, Aus closed borders to all countries 20/3/20. Australia had previously banned flights from China 01/02/20 and Iran, Italy a week later.

No need to retract comments mate. We are all just here giving our opinions and looking for information

A lot of click bait going around. People trying to generate SEO (backlinks) and troll (catfish) facebook accounts

Aus must go into lockdown now. It's frustrating the crap out of me. 4 weeks at least. Why wait? They WILL do it. It's a matter of when. Im worried they will wait till it's becoming a real nightmare instead of doing it this week. Sooner the more effective. Scott should listen to Jacinda. She is making a fool of his leadership.

I like your optimism but we currently have 2000 cases and it's growing faster constantly. I think Australia is very complacent about it, many other countries have implimented lockdown. There is science to show when brought in swiftly it's very effective.
