How come charity workers are eligible - i would have thought most charity workers are volunteers on no pay.

Not at all. Charities are a mixture of paid workers and volunteers.

Yea highly paid administrators and zero paid workers.

That is simply not true, places like vinnies employ a large number of people on minimum wage!

Do people think that this Virus will take hold in the continents of Africa and/or country of india ? i'm just shocked how there seems to be no stringent measures/or death tolls/information regarding there....or maybe its just a matter of time....? these places i thought would be absolutely hammered

India has been having issues for a little while but i doubt if we will ever get accurate figures from there,2nd largest population in the world with a poor health system and infrastructure to match. As long as none of the top indian cricketers dont get it details will be sketchy.
I have known many indians in my life and they are decent people but i cant see india coping with such a difficult problem as this

I think that it is atrocious legislation if there is no room for reasonable judgment, particularly as this government has promoted this current situation of insecurity of employment.

Edit; It must be remembered that such a program was not wanted by the government at all, so as Labor were the ones pushing them to do so, they should also hold up passing of the legislation if it remains too unfair and force change.

Interesting graphic. For mine it shows our trajectory closer to South Korea than Japan, Singapore or Hong Kong. Specifically we have a lot more cases (careful that graph is logarithmic, not linear) but have almost stopped the growth rate. I think this has *massive* implications in that whilst you havent stopped or slowed the growth rate you have no chance of reopening the economy whereas IMO South Korea has a stronger opportunity to get back to something like normal.

Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong have low cases but relatively constant growth rates which may mean the damage to their economies may be more protracted.

No one knows really, but thats my take on it.

I really have a dislike of logarithmic graphs!

Looks like the yanks are easily winning the race that nobody wants to be in.Can only hope the trend worldwide starts to taper off and decline very soon.As to be expected countries that are very secretive and suppress information dont seem to supply figures(Russia,North Korea)in particular

If the Times’ article I was reading last week is accurate then China would be streaks ahead. It suggested their figures be increased by a factor of 20, based on anecdotal evidence and the number of earns being issued by the 7 funeral services in Wuhan.

Likely somewhere in between, though unlike the countries to follow, they did have to confront this with no previous information at all. Just glad that our government listened to scientific evidence on this issue and hope they will do so on other matters as soon as this passes.

That’s 3500 deaths per day between 25/3 - 3/4?
Wuhan’s population is / was around 11m ☹️

India are only reporting 4800 cases and 137 deaths but they have just stopped their rail system for the first time in its history and are converting railway carriages to hospital cars so I think it’s safe to say they are having issues.

Still a lot of speculation and uncertainty. I think most countries positive cases would be far higher than what we know. Positive to see people i know in china allowed to open their shops etc for a few hours a day now.

fingers crossed things can get better here in Australia...I work in education and a lot of the teachers (especially older ones) are on shaky ground as online classes are planned right up till the end of the year...cost cutting to the max ...

I’m in education as well and the current plan appears to be for next term. All of the schools that I support are planning for that as the outcome and rotating staff through the school and at home depending on need. What state are you in? Might be different there.

Yeah I’m in NSW. A lot going on but schools are managing well. I support students with disabilities and mental health issues so it’s a very complex space trying to support students remotely.

Yeah I’m the lower grades. TAFE and Uni must be getting hammered right now with a lot of students withdrawing or deferring until things die down. Hope you’re doing okay.

Was talking with some colleagues who work in the behaviour schools and they we were joking that lessons would be fun as instead of you having to follow them and try and calm them down after they tell you to get lost they can just turn the computer off. However they have found that the students are actually more engaged in learning online.
