anyone else feeling stressed at work because of staff using Covid as a ruse to not go to work?

All the full timers at my work been doing nothing compared to the casual staff who aren't paid if they dont come to work...

i had to take a week stress leave because of the new semester at University and students getting angry cause there were no staff to help them...

The fulltimers and casuals that are on jobkeeper, some are rorting the system...they get paid $1500 a fortnight to stay employed and do their amount of hours they did while being paid by the employer...

Its easy to see that they dont comply...eg I know of people who work in hospitality and because of restrictions are calling in sick, not turning up for other reasons and not doing the hours stipulated ...
One person I know was doing 25/30 hours a week prior to Covid now on jobkeeper that person is barely doing 12/15 hours a week and getting paid handsomely by the Govt...but then again it was always going to get rorted by some...
I just got a job and it is casual to start with 12/18 hours a week, when I get paid I have to declare the gross amount earned to centrelink and they pay me the difference on jobseeker...
But at least I have started employment after losing my previous job because of covid 19,I will have to do the hard yards again but its worth going to work again...

I've said before that this pandemic is uncovering a number of underlying issues.

The problems in Melbourne have arisen largely in the North Eastern suburbs, which are generally lower socio-economic areas. It seems that many of the people who were not at home following positive tests had in fact gone to work.

I must admit that I haven't seen any data to support this claim but, given the casualisation of the work force in general terms, it is not at all improbable that many of these people had no sick leave and/or were going to work from fear of losing their jobs. It doesn't excuse their actions but might go some way to explaining them.

I'm not sure that the movement away from permanent to casual work has been a good thing for us as a society. It also had a part to play in the rapid spread of the disease through aged care centres.

I hope that it's one of the issues in the mix when we get to reflect on how we handled this crisis.

Totally agree and I whilst generally not a fan of unions (they let me down when I wAs younger and in need of them ) they are correct in their current fight about casuals that employers are using them as permanent employees without having to pay them benefits . A lot of people that are casuals should actually be permanent employees and in many cases full time

India now has the highest number of new daily infections in the world. In that regard it has overtaken the US and Brazil, although its total numbers are still below them, but it could easily overtake them both in the next couple of months.

I will applaud Gladys for her foresight with returned traveller's and now assisting 100 Canberrans trapped in Victoria. I like it that while she is prepared to assist, the health of NSW residents comes first.

You get it's all Australia right? Trapped in Victoria?? lol.

All these politicians are doing is pandering to brain dead voters and creating a tribal factions to secure seats. The health of NSW comes first? Jesus. I always had a though in the back of my mind that Australians had something special and would pull together in times of crisis. Anzac spirit, i am, you are, we are all Australian...all that is just crap. Does not exist.

I really hope that we see an end of the virus soon, Firstly to stop the carnage it causes and secondly so I can go back to pretending Australians are good blokes.

The NSW border is closed. There is huge risk to NSW rural communities if even one Canberran has the Covid. I applaud the assistance when it s easier to do the Qld Premier thing.

Unfortunately university enterprise agreements protect bludging morons and hard workers alike. I work at a uni too and sick leave is a challenge at the best of times.

Man, we had MS Teams meetings and some of our head teachers were in bed...

Wonder how big the bone is that is behind the camera?

FYI if anyone needs haircuts most TAFE's offer barbering services and our final year students need hours to finish their prac, so check in at your local TAFE if you need a haircut. Its either free or $2

because of covid they haven't had many walk ins.

Feel free to delete this post mods if you think it should be deleted.

thanks!

Our Premier should be banning religious organisations from organising these retreats. People are dead and will continue to die until risks presented by these types of activities are removed by banning these events This could be done over the web.

Isn't Opus-Dei a faction within the Liberals?

Things heating up again in NZ. Total of 36 cases. Seems that sanctimonious platitudes and patting yourself on the back does not kill off the virus.

Interesting to watch the NZ Govt & media looking at "mystery" sources such as frozen Chinese imports as the cause of it. Despite the global fawning over Jacinda, the truth is that her and her Govts handling of international travellers and quarantine genuinely makes Victoria look good. In June they let 55 international travellers leave quarantine early and only tested 4!!! Two were later proven to have been positive. Of 2000 in quarantine, they only tested 1000. Many reports of people leaving quarantine early.

But she smiles nice and hugs lots of people.

13 cases in NZ today. What to make of it?

I'm interested to know where this has come from, it appears some of the cases have a link to an international freight company. Could be interesting if they determine it has come in on freight. Bit of a test case it seems.

There have been almost 21M cases worldwide, I think the time for "test cases" is over. I'm not a virologist, but I doubt it came to NZ in freight. I think it would have happened somewhere else in the world first (out of 21M cases).

I would not be surprised if they pursue this narrative though as it absolves St Jacinda. The MUCH more likely scenario is sloppy quarantine measures, that they have been very slack with previously.

The thing is, elsewhere in the world it could be missed coming in on freight as the cases are much higher. This is a country that has had no community transmission in 100 days, its very likely that this has returned from overseas. Either from issues in quarantine or some other mistake.

The company is a cold storage transporter, it is probably not impossible for the virus to survive transportation under those circumstance.

I agree it is more likely to hotel quarantine but I am interested to see the source confirmed.

There are huge risks to rural and regional NSW from Sydneysiders who for some reason want to try and infect the rest of the state - they are every bit as much a problem as Victorians.

These upsurges in cases seem to be happening in a lot of places. Germany, France, Spain and Ireland are all countries that at one stage or another claimed to have gotten on top of the disease. They are now all experiencing a resurgence.

Seems to be the nature of the beast.

The US just continues to limp along without any sign of improvement because the discipline required to suppress the disease appears to be an infringement of some individuals' rights. So they really are sick people (one way or the other).

I think that it starkly shows the different way the world sees this to Aus & NZ (blessed to be girt by sea). When Germany had it "under control" they were still getting 400-500 cases a day minimum (triple our population).

I dont think we knew how good we had it pre- Victoria screwing up.
