NSW records 452 new cases from 152,000 tests

Still a big number, but actually impressive that it is not rising faster.

The lockdown has definitely flatten the curve, just can't get it to turn downwards.

Delta has reportedly got a R value of 1.35 (higher than Alpha) which theoretically without restrictions and back in the bad days of early Mar 2020, would equate to 6700 a day in 10 days, 100K 10 days after that. Of course these horror scenarios never happen because of the restrictions but its helpful I think to consider "what could be" without the restrictions.

450 odd two days in a row is not good but the fact that it is not rising exponentially means that (purely IMO) the pool of infection is probably not yet rising greatly. If we are getting 450 a day there is probably something like less than 1000 people infectious out in the wild. In a Sydney population of 5M youyr chances of catching it still pretty low. Not saying it isnt a risking and dangerous situation, but IMO it is doing the job of keeping the risk as low as possible whilst we wait for as many as possible to get vaccinated.

Some restrictions will be relaxed for vaccinated people in September.

I am against vaccine passports on principle....but come 1 October, come what may (Ill be fully vaxxed).

This is the 5 day rolling average of daily cases in NSW, which flattens out the daily fluctuations.

We are now seeing much bigger daily case increases now than we were early in July.

Based on this trend we could easily see 1,000 daily cases in the next month with daily cases doubling every 15 or so days.

Looks like the best hope for NSW is not getting cases down, but keeping people out of hospital through the vaccine rollout.

How would they be able to tell if you have been vaccinated or not?

You get a tattoo on your forehead with your second shot....

Yeah,,,or that, I still like the Qcode tattoo on forehead idea. Much more straightforward

If that's 152,000 tests in a single day, then it's an impressive number:

1 That so many people turned out to be tested
2 That NSW had the capacity to administer that number of tests
3 That it had the capacity to process that number of tests

Well done.

Probably upgrade of that Covidsafe app or Service NSW app for check-ins.

Not sure what happens if you forget your phone, run out of charge or don't have one.

I'm in Singleton, we had one case last week but none since so hopefully our lock down might lift on Friday, best case we lift and Newcastle stays locked down a few more weeks so my mother in-law can't visit......
Not holding my breath though.

I would imagine that everyone vaccinated will be given a plastic ID stating vaccination status .
As this will be a requirement for OS travel.

Why would that happen here when its not happening anywhere else? All of Europe and the US are travelling without vaccine passports.

You become a non-citizen.

My understanding is that EU and USA citizens can travel freely throughout Europe if they have a digital vaccination certificate. If not, they are subject to the quarantine requirements of each of the European nations that they travel to.

In Australia you can get a digital vaccination certificate by linking your medicare account to your mygov account and by downloading the medicare app to your phone (other more computer literate people on here will probably explain that better). The certificate is available a few days after your second injection.

The Australian certificate has no application at the moment, but you have to think that they had a purpose in mind when they created it.

Whilst NSW has lost current battle let's focus (fully vaccinated and other precautions) on winning the war. To all front line workers you have my upmost respect.
