Good on Western Australia for continuing with a goal of zero covid.

They are showing up other governments who have failed, and who are trying to mask their failure by stating "you can't have zero with delta". Well Western Australia, and New Zealand, shows you can.

They'll fail as well. It's just a matter of time.

You are right the rest of the world is now living with it in there communities… it’s fools gold to believe it’s not coming .. my advice get prepared as it is COMING to you all soon ! Get vaccinated..

People think their politics or their will power or something is going to win the battle against a virus. It ain't happening people.

If Gladys had done a hard lock down of the Eastern Suburbs this would be over by now. 'We have to accept it' is an excuse for failure, failures that New Zealand and most other Australian states aren't making.

I'm not doubting a lockdown should have been implemented quicker. That is obvious now.

I guarantee you are wrong through long term though.

But as vaccination rates rise it should get easier to defend zero cases, rather than harder. If somewhere like NZ or WA has effectively kept it to zero without widespread vaccination, I don't see why they will struggle with widespread vaccination.

I agree it is probably too hard to get NSW back to zero, as it has been allowed to become an absolute debacle here, but better managed jurisdictions should be able to defend zero if they have tough borders.

Strict borders can't stay in place forever.

This is the point.

The Doherty report is based on two things:-

1. Minimizing lockdowns because they cost too much
2. Minimizing the impact to the our health.

There isn't a policy option where borders stay closed forever.

Which means covid will be circulating in these states at some point. It is impossible to stay at zero.

Yep. But until vaccination reaches those higher percentages suppression is the only strategy in play.

Yeah, it was more about the response that with hard borders it is possible to stay at zero for a long time moving forward.

She keeps going on about the 70+ low vaccination rate which is what kills me as well. It’s crazy. It’s honestly bonkers.

Then why not open up the half million plus nearly out of date recently arrived Pfizer vaccines up to them? Other states have done so without such additional volume.

Not allowing what would surely be many thousands of the more vulnerable to be fully protected within the next five to six weeks seems completely bonkers to me.

I dont think its an availability issue for the +70's, they are prioritised for AZ.

It's primarily, though not just the choice issue, as the difference of a month or more before reaching what is also reasonably better efficacy also come into play.

Then there is your case. Still waiting and all these people jumping in on a disjointed queue whilst you're waiting for an age.

My understanding is that there is no efficacy issue. This is as per following the health advice. If anyone knows better than the health advice I believe the best option is to discuss this with your GP.

What do you mean by no efficacy issue?

@formerguest is talking about the fact that the vaccines require a couple of weeks after the final jab to reach full efficacy. The jab doesnt protect you, your bodies immune system does and it takes a few weeks to kick in fully.

If you are still talking about the relative efficacy, then you need to stop. You want health advice? Here for the thousandth time is the New England Journal of Medicine study showing Pfizer 88% effective against Delta infection and AZ 67%.

Facts from one of the most authoritative medical journals in the world, also backed up by Public HEalth UK.

We are in an interim state right now where vaccines are being rolled out. It's a shame that a lot of people didn't go and get vaccinated immediately as per the health advice.

The interesting point is that vaccine hesitancy seems to go down a lot when the Delta variant is causing havoc.

Here is the thing. You have a viewpoint. That is cool. The problem is that the government are following the advise of the Doherty report when it comes to how to manage the pandemic.

Gladys and Dr Chant for instance are reading off that play book. If they do something different they can get crucified which I think is good. The federal government will follow that advice.

Some good advertising/promotion from around the Gold Coast.

Former NRL superstar, Tyrone Roberts.

The Wests Tigers are in discussions with the NRL about promoting vaccination as well.

Could use Noffa. "Don't be like your A and B defenders, get down to your vaccination centre and help out your mates today."

I don't know what you are talking about but I'll guess. I assume you are stating Pfizer should go to the over 70's. The health policy doesn't state this and I think the health policy has proven to be correct in most other instances.

I think the vaccines should be targeted on a risk based profile. I firmly believe my 19 yo daughter should get the Pfizer vaccine and my 70+ yo parents should get the AZ vaccine. This is due to the fact that the blood clot issue although extremely rare is more likely to affect younger people.

I guarantee you my parents agree with me. They have taken the AZ vaccine. It is a fantastic vaccine that has worked well. The advice for people I think it was under 50 to take the Pfizer vaccine was actually good advice.

The Department of Health advice is people under 60 should get Pfizer.

*"The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) recommends the COVID-19 vaccine by Pfizer (Comirnaty) is preferred in adults aged under 60 years."*

https://www.health.gov.au/initiatives-and-programs/covid-19-vaccines/learn-about-covid-19-vaccines/about-the-astrazeneca-covid-19-vaccine

https://www.health.gov.au/news/atagi-statement-on-revised-recommendations-on-the-use-of-covid-19-vaccine-astrazeneca-17-june-2021

I think this is a political debate rather than a medical advice issue. I don't think that is the correct thing for any government to get into. The government should follow the health advice.

Why is it political?

The government are following the advice of the The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI)

https://www.health.gov.au/committees-and-groups/australian-technical-advisory-group-on-immunisation-atagi

Lastly I don't think any vaccines aren't being utilized. I think people are starting to realize that the health advice is correct and we just need to get people vaccinated. The brand shouldn't be an issue.

The Government and **MEDICAL** advice is that brand **IS** an issue. THis is the advice from the Department of Health and the The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI). Both of them are recommending Pfizer for under 60's.

Do you have shares in Astrazeneca? I dont understand why you continue to spread misinformation on this issue.

Earl I understand that you FG and 5150 have great info and input to this thread...I personally dont want to rush into a quick decision until Im more sure of the side effects of these vaxcines ....why ? because I have read and seen many peoples input after having the vax,Dr Malone the inventor of mRna has even said that their isnt enough follow up research with this genetic vax and needed more time to be spent on the development of it...
Im not going to cause an argument in this regard but will say that many people have been weary of the vax and that is why the slow uptake and which one to select ...
people are still allowed to have a choice because they respect others choices and need to make theirs...
The funny thing is that even with the vax people get it and spread it even though it minimises the effect of the virus...
Its a road each individual has to choose....I do appreciate everybodies input to this thread as it helps some understand what is developing .....

Sidenote...Im by no means an antivaxer...Im an educated person that wants to no more about what gets injected into my body either in the name of safety OR in the name of big pharma and Govt control...

I believe it should be Trade only.

If I have a tap go or something like that, I need to be able to purchase another.

I'll just add that I haven't been to Bunnings during this lockdown lol.

Call a plumber ..
All non trades should be banned from Bunnings period .

I don't like to pay for plumbers, just like I don't pay for painters.

House is looking sharp mate !

I don't like paying for anything. My house looks really sharp.

Probably a new build ..
Painters .. most trusted profession !

It's not new and it doesn't look sharp. Myself and my wife paint ourselves as well.

Oh well .. can’t win em all

Body paint?

Yeah I do it all ..
special rates for fattys .. charge double ?

Well it does use more paint lol

Lots of prep as well ?

With GEO and Hap .....you would definately have to use the wire brush to get a better surface for the paint to stick....
