She made such a song and dance of mocking Queensland for locking down.
Her ego and arrogance wouldn't allow her to follow medical advice.

Interestingly with the data that has been provided there has been some analysis of Pfizer versus AZ.

The big picture remains the same in that the efectiveness of both vaccines is very very similar.

I'll add a slight bit of information to this picture but it's not worth focusing on in relation to getting vaccinated. The Pfizer vaccine appears to have a better initial rate of effectiveness but this decreases over time whereas the AZ vaccine appears to have a lower initial rate of effectiveness but this increases over time. There could be more to this picture because this could be due to the time period between your first and second dose.

Interestingly Dr Chant mentioned the initial dosing time frame in the press conference yesterday. She wants everyone double dosed even though there is a possibility this leads to a decrease in effectiveness over time. She stated that this will be mitigated against via booster shots.

Read the same Pfizer is running out of puff against Delta while AZ is staying stronger and lasting longer against Delta ..

In the greater scheme of things this is though basically completely irrelevant. Interestingly they don't have data going on long enough to state if this will continue.

The reason it's not even worth worrying about is that both vaccines work really well in relation to stopping you getting really sick including dying.

This is why lockdowns can't continue. I have mates that have small businesses and they are getting flogged.

There is also the issue in relation to the poor people copping it more in this situation than the rich. On top of that the poor tend to be minority communities.

It's a balance issue. Either open small business and risk the virus going out of control or clamp down on the virus as quickly as possible.

Wouldnt it be better if they introduced rapid testing?
That way if someone has the virus they can be sent
somewhere else (a facility to recover) rather than be
sent home where other family members can get infected.

Where are you going to send them all. People will also not be getting tested.

@Mighty_Tiger I get what you are stating but these lockdowns are just causing too many issues. It's an untenable way forward.

I know everyone focuses on Gladys but to me this is nonsense. She is listening to a team of advisers and they make decisions together. Look at Ink's post above. It's a public health order via Dr Chant. Health are the ones implementing these measures.

If anything I think it's pretty clear that Dr Chant representing Health are the ones pushing the whole situation now. I work for a big company and manage projects. My mate is a General Manger who manages a massive IT portfolio. The interesting point is that in these roles you are in a lot of ways just a facilitator. I view Gladys this way now. You don't make decisions. You leave that to the experts.

On top of that we've paid the Doherty institute to provide policy guidelines on how to manage this situation. This isn't Gladys coming up with her own ideas on what to do.

The Doherty report doesn't consider specific rural situations. To be fair the NSW government are pushing vaccinations into Indigenous communities.

It’s a healthy debate & is what it is but don’t think for a second Gladys hasn’t been guiding the narrative.

Look at the history

- took weeks to react
- slow lockdown approach to keep the state open
- laughed at how Melbourne handled things and said we will be doing it differently
- lockdowns have over time become stricter as reality of things has set in
- she consistently talks about opening up

Her narrative has always been to not be locked down and to be open & free.

My take is that people just get way too caught up in themselves. I'm in a locked down LGA. We just went for our daily walk. Most people are wearing masks but heaps aren't.

It's over. It's done. In some ways it's for the better. We are having it now. Other areas will have it later.

All the talk about Gladys does my head in. Dr Chant is right in this representing health.

Gladys was arrogant but no more arrogant that people thinking they could manage this better.

I'll also add there are no defined lockdown practices. There is no best practice. Go read the Doherty report. It's extremely vague.

I think there are multiple issues here:-

1. We should have locked down quicker.
2. Putting this all on Gladys when health are right in this. I don't believe the premier is weak or anything like that. She is a human being with flaws like everyone here. To put all of this solely on here is in my opinion hilarious.
3. Long term it's not going to work.

The key point to me is long term it's not going to work. It'll get out in Queensland and WA and everywhere in the world because it's COVID.

They work but they don't work long term. Clearly there was a time where we could use this tool. We are still in that place but it's changing.

The reality is it works if you act instantly and with strict lockdowns. It curbs it to manageable levels.
NSW had 600 of its 800 cases not even traceable yet.
Do that over days and weeks and right now they have over 4000 people in which they have no idea where they have been. Due to the lockdowns not being strict and using an honesty method things have blown out and its just the start. This time next week it’s trending to 1400 a day, in 4 weeks to 3000. The important number out of all this isn’t infections anymore is hospitalized and ICU numbers. They will be telling over the next 2 weeks.
