My son won't be going to school and nor should any others, except for those of essential services in a social distancing environment.

The Victorian government were closing their schools down either way, but agreed to the "bringing the holidays forward" announcement, so as not to create waves.

Its a tough one FG , kids are in the middle of exams in the most important times of their schooling lives

Asking them to do Year 11/12 all over again would be tough

It seems the schools might not go back at all this year as the year will be shot !

Feels like a shutdown/lockdown is inevitable. You’d think they’d learn from other parts of the world like Italy. The US is getting smashed. Seems we’re heading down the same road.

I do not understand bringing the school holidays forward .. what I am reading once the shut down happens in full it will be for 6 months .... it seems most think it will only be a month and this seems not the case !

IMO there is no way they totally close down for 6months. China was less than 4 weeks. Aus economy is finished in 6 months, all over red rover. Government is already spending 9% GDP on stimulus. No way such a large chunk of the population can go without income for that long.

IMO there is no way they totally close down for 6months. China was less than 4 weeks. Aus economy is finished in 6 months, all over red rover. Government is already spending 9% GDP on stimulus. No way such a large chunk of the population can go without income for that long.

It’s the worse case scenario mate . If everyone prepares for that , then it might limit the blow . Instead of saying 1 month , and when it gets to April 22nd the media destroys him

No way Victoria are going to reopen the schools in the short term, it is just a smokescreen so that our PM can pretend it was a unanimous decision and I doubt that VIC were the only dissenting one.

Difference is Andrews went into that meeting knowing exactly how he was coming out of it in regards to changes in his state come Tuesday and schools are a sensible part of that.

I served 8 years in the army . Whilst in , I used to think I couldn’t wait to get out and tell people above me who were idiots , that’s what they were, instead of sucking it up . But now , I realise in my late 30s , how if we just followed our leaders , we would have been alright .
So many people are playing politics , and not listening because they don’t like the leader . And he is Just delivering orders .
Just listen to the message not the guy delivering it . He’s trying to stave off a depression . Do people realise this ? The pandemic WILL blow over ! But if he plays this wrong , so many people will not have a roof over Their heads and food in their mouths . This is What he is worried about .

No he’s not . He clearly outlined that , in normal flu season this is the case . He’s unsure if , in this case , this Is actually true . He said there was zero evidence anywhere in the world of this being the case . That’s what he said. So until the data comes through that says this is the case , then they have to crack on .
Also he said most of the cases found were from people contracting the virus overseas ( I personally know that they’re not checking people who don’t meet that criteria) .
I’m just trying to be impartial.
Put your opinion of these guys aside , and do what they are saying . If we had all done this from the start , we wouldn’t be where we are now.
And I think SCOMO is a narcissist , career politician, who could give 2 stuffs about us . But this is what’s in place so we should try to follow it .

Full disclosure, I voted for Morrisson, but either party would have been acting on the medical advice. I think we all need to remember that.

Until I learn otherwise, I'm pointing the finger at the medical advice being handed down.

I don't believe for one minute that China is stating the true numbers effected or dying
I guess if you weld doors shut on buildings then those people don't get counted right
Who is coming up with or supplying these numbers that are being reported
They are trying to save face

My missus is a teacher and it's the teachers that are the ones screaming. Parents were already keeping their kids home.

Apart from not wanting to be exposed, it essentially doubles their workload as they need to prepare a lesson plan as well as rejig that lesson into a home learning plan for the kids that stay at home. Not easy if you see what they need to do as it is.

Coming from a teaching background myself, I think anyone expecting teacher to be delivering lessons online is kidding themselves. I also don't think it is that important at the moment.

My daughter is going to school and will continue to go to school while ever they are open to keep things as normal as possible for her at the moment. Her anxiety levels are already raise so as much as I can keep normal the happier she will be.

If and when the schools close then I am not overly worried about what she achieves. We will do a couple of hours school work in the morning with me teaching her, but it will primarily be interest based and wont be based off what the school is sending home. If schools close we will be so far away from normality that I do no believe the normal expectations should be applied. I will be more focused on her mental health, being an only child and losing contact with her peers and primarily relying on her parents for companionship is a recipe for a child to struggle to cope. That is also why I refuse to buy into the panic that is occurring all around us as that will only serve to raise her anxiety levels.

Yeah, heard that. He is unsure, so let's forget about the general school of thought on pretty well all other infectious things being spread speedily in schools, to take the roll the dice option and hope we win. Meanwhile, the youth that were in these same schools a few months ago have altered so much in that short period, that they are now required to have a personal space of 4m2 and lambasted for not doing so.

Cool, makes perfect sense to me. On second thoughts, maybe we should wind back a week or two and take notice of a powerful leader that was telling his people that black was white and see how that works out. Always question authority.

This is supported by a CH9 reporter who confirmed the stance of Vic, NSW and ACT was based upon the advice of their own CMOs who sit on the national committee. These three states wanted to go much further with the lockdown of non essential services.

Teachers are the unsung heros in this mess, asked to carry on as normal often being the subject of anger from parents. Also what I am told is supplies of toilet paper, soap and toweling in some schools is near exhaustion. I feel sorry they are caught in the middle.

My wife is a nurse. I would suggest (based on overseas reports) that her risk levels are equal to or greater than teachers.

I don’t see anyone suggesting that they stop medical or ambulance services.

The measures being rolled out are to limit exposure and the number of people infected, so we have the capacity to treat them. If anyone has massive objections to the job they are being asked to do, they can resign and open their own business, or look for a job in hospitality.
