Regardless of whether the curve flattens, I can’t see restrictions lifting anytime soon. Seems like they are only getting stricter.

Agree with that. This is a long haul plan.

The US is expecting a surge in the coming weeks. Already at 150, 000 or thereabouts. Most of any nation in the world.

They will have 100+M infected by Christmas, along with the associated deaths the way they are going.

The death toll has surpassed the 9/11 death toll. I think more people have died over there then people that have been diagnosed here. They’re predicting somewhere between 100, 000 and 240, 000 deaths.

There are clearly some countries who have not dealt with this well. The US were slow to move and their early testing was terrible. Still the US are the 27th "worst" country when ranked by cases per million population. There are a lot of tiny countries above them but some surprising large countries like Germany, Switzerland, Spain, France, Italy (most of western europe actually).

Thankfully I think we have dealt with it pretty well and I think have relatively good control results. IMO that has been as a result of reasonably good government control, the benefit of seeing what has already happened in other countries and the fact we are girt by sea.

Carpooling is now illegal. Police will stop cars with multiple people to check their addresses.

That sucks
Imagine being Happy
He takes a mate with him in the car
But the Coppers count 4 heads

I’ve got a couple of questions?
Why is everyone in China wearing masks? While WHO are telling us all do not wear a mask unless you have been infected?
Medical researchers are also investigating a third method of transmission other than an infected person sneezing/coughing in your personal space or making contact with an infected surface. It is now thought that micrometer particles can float in the air for extended periods. This theory would explain the relatively high number of cases which remain under source investigation?

Hey champion @twentyforty , where did you hear about the "particles floating in the air"?

Culture. It's not just China. East Asian culture.

It's also fashion. BAPE ( Nigo) released a face mask collection last year. It was nice!

covid-19, coronavirus infection

Scientists in Japan discovered that micro particles could be causing coronavirus to spread much faster.
Simple conversations in close proximity could spread the virus without coughs and sneezes.
Solutions to better contain the virus will emerge as scientists break down how it spreads.
Scientists in Japan have found a third transmission route for coronavirus in a breakthrough study. Some are hopeful that the new findings could significantly reduce the spread of the virus in the coming weeks.

Donald Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon said that without his intervention 2.2 million would be dead in the United States. It also be a big mistake if they open America back up before easter.

I checked the numbers. 163, 000 and counting. The US makes up 20% of the global number.

It would appear that 1.5mts isn’t enough. You can actually see the micro particles staying afloat with the right technological equipment and what’s equally frightening is that each particle is capable of spreading exponentially. One becomes two, becomes four and so on.

The longer this goes, the more info and knowledge that appears.

Thanks everyone for sharing the goss and helping me learn more.

If anyone looking for alternatives to JB hi Fi for lap tops and bits and pieces MSY near my work @ Ultimo is good. Likewise technocity in capital square (Sydney) is cheap too.

No doubt this is an extremely infectious virus and some of those who contract will get very ill and a small number will die. However the numbers in Australia do need to be put in to perspective. The death rate in Australia from the virus as a percentage against the population rather than number of cases ( because number of cases is a guess at best) is .00008%. No one under the age of 68 has died as of yet, So from age 0 to 67 the death rate in Australia is 0.0%. I fully agree with isolation to avoid spreading the virus however to me the projected figures of probable deaths seems way out of whack.
