Speaking of fantasy land, Craig Laundy interviewed this morning about those who have received both vaccines being able to attend hotels in September!

Yes, and that wouldn't be laced in self interest by Laundy, would it?

Obviously the case - but who on Earth does he think is going to be traveling around visiting hotels at the moment or by September? Half the country is in lockdown and no end in sight for NSW.

He'd have better occupancy offering up his sites for Hotel Quarantine...

Absolutely. Probably the same reason why the Eastern Suburbs wasn't locked down when the Covid issue arose from that driver.

The NSW government won't entertain lockdowns much longer. It is clear now that they are pushing for a massive vaccination programme, and then opening up when we hit 80% double dosed (which looks to be late October.)

This also coincides with the AZ gap between doses being shorter if I recall correctly, which also means that efficacy may be effected so fully vaccinated people in the state may still end up quite unwell or worse.

So 390 and still rising. Meanwhile as those cases were compiled, we had Hazzard continually not allowing Dr Chant to speak when questioned by the committee yesterday.

Has she resigned, as rumours abound that she is at the end of her rope and sick of being thrown under the bus?

Hazzard has gagged her because her advice is contrary to the tripe coming out of his mouth right now. You've got a state govt who cannot communicate properly at the moment, and it's showing in the advice being given.

Dr Chant has obviously long been concerned, as three weeks ago with about a third of the daily cases, she declared her thoughts on it being a national emergency. Instead we have had an LGA based approach as some things have been opened back up as it spreads far and wide.

To any of my brothers and sisters most recently forced to join in this lockdown, keep your chins up and I hope that yours is only short and sharp so that you are spared the same result as those around me.

I do feel for her. She's been used as fodder in this whole sorry affair.

Chant has offered her resignation and to step aside but it won’t be accepted because of the optics of it .

I have to agree CB,he wants trade to start asap so he doesnt take to big a hit to his bank accounts....same as the state govt didnt want to lockdown the state when this first started, the coffers would have taken a hit to support the communities ....unfortunately what will the total cost be in dollars, illness and lives at the end of this thing..

and.......?

Why does self interest and community interest have to be mutually exclusive? What is the evil in looking for a safe way to continue business?

If he (or anyone else) can derive a safe mechanism to open up their business, why shouldnt they? Im not a fan of vaccine passports but if he has a hotel open to only vaccinated people, it might be a safe way of running business and giving people an opportunity to share a beer together. Struggling to see a negative other than I dont like the bloke.

I am certainly not anti-lockdown. I have in the past voiced support for it and somewhat still do. There are however things that do need to be considered with this:

- Inequity of treatment. Average Australians are now being asked to repay JobKeeper while businesses took in millions upon millions in government support and posted record profits without being asked to repay the funds. This follows on to the next point as well.

- Amazon, Coles, Woolworths, fast food conglomerates, Harvey Norman etc all continue to get stronger and rake in more business while small businesses are forced to close with little to no support and go to the wall as a result. This continues the gradual casualisation of the workforce and increases job insecurity.

- Quite simply people cannot continue to live this way. It is not normal for a social species like us to do this. We are fortunate that with the advent of technology we can still stay in touch in ways not previously doable. Issues in mental health, dissolution of families and extreme issues like family/domestic violence will trend up the longer that this goes on.

It's going to become less palatable to continue large scale lockdowns. I think that once a large proportion of the population is vaccinated and the take up rates drop right off I think we are going to see opening up.

Dont know the bloke personally, but if he does want to open up his business why do you have to only employ vaxed people or serve vaxed people, unfair to people who cant get vaxed yet or are not sure about the vaxess just yet...it seems to be get vaxed or your and outsider in your own community because you arent amongst the majority...
discrimitory at best ...
I hope the country doesnt go down that track atm...becaused vaxxed people can still spread the virus as well as die from it...even though it is a small percentage...

Not getting into a political arguement mate, but I have an opinion that we are still a free democratic country...once you start to discriminate against your own, then your heading down a dark path...cheers..

Not trying to force an argument. I actually agree with your POV regarding vaccine passports but in the short term, what he is proposing would be a valid way of opening his business safely and would have to be considered. I share your opinion that I hope we dont have vax passports and segregate accordingly, but we are not going to have that option until start of Nov at the earliest (based on State Govt forecast). A LOT of businesses will go broke in that time and I cant blame them for looking at a safe strategy to get doors open.

The problem is being unvaccinated is a risk to everyone.

I'm starting to agree with you but I can't grasp unvaccinated people working for instance as bus drivers, health care workers, gym instructors, teachers and the like.

We have to have some sort of restrictions to protect the unvaccinated which includes children. Admittedly they are significantly lower risk than older demographics who are unvaccinated but they also don't have the option of being vaccinated.

I can see your point...limited business is better than no business...but gee they have been slammed while the big guns get richer...

If someone chooses to not be vaccinated, is it wrong for a venue owner to refuse entry at somewhere like a pub where we know there's high potential for the virus to spread and a high risk of harm to other customers?

If it's the venue owner surely it's their choice. Surely you can state it's a safety issue.

It's not right is it. Big business has done well. Small businesses are getting hammered.

I'm not a business owner, but if I was, one of, if not the first thing I'd be thinking about when this lockdown ends is liability - liability to be sued if someone attended my business, contracted COVID and died. So most business operators would be thinking of ways to minimise this concern. Let's not forget, there are plenty of business owners out there right now who are struggling financially and need to earn an income in order to survive.

Therefore if they have the option/choice of allowing vaccinated vs unvaccinated people into their business to minimise the risk, then they're probably going to do it and I wouldn't blame them for that.
