Any reports to back this up? I was under the understanding that no one double vaxxed had died?

I believe we had a double vaccinated man die on the 11th of August. He was in his 90s.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-08-12/nsw-records-345-covid-19-cases/100370274

Ah OK, there you go then. One guy in his 90's. I did a google search and nothing came up for me.

There have been a few last few days that I read on ABC website sadly apparently with underlying conditions but that's exactly the people that vacines should be protecting. Also it seems around 10% in ICU are single or double vaccinated so it seems the AZ vacines are poor against delta relative to the others.

Had to roll my eyes at Hazzard this morning stating his anger at those (like me) who have a preference for the Pfizer over AZ and who want to have the pfizer over the AZ. He is "extremely frustrated". He went on to say "I’ve got personal friends, family members who have had AstraZeneca. Go and have it. It’s a very good vaccine."

Ahem......then what vaccine did you get Mr Hazzard?

Can you point to where you are getting numbers for vaxxed people in ICU and what vaccines they have had?

Public Health England have published a fair bit of real life data showing that both Pfizer and AZ are pretty similar in prevention of hospitalisation (Pfizer slightly better). Where are you getting your information that AZ are poor?

Feel free to share those links to those reports.

The vax numbers I see for those in ICU include both single and double dosed patients, it does not differentiate.

https://covidlive.com.au/report/daily-icu/nsw

As of today, 143 cases in ICU, 13 partially/fully vaxxed.

The statistic I want to know is of those 143 in ICU, 58 are on ventilators, how many of those people are double dosed?

The other day they mentioned they had about 115 people in icu and don't quote me on exact numbers but I believe they said about 15 were single vaxed and 1 double vaxed.
Initially we were told vacines virtually eliminated hospitalization but with delta in Sydney into seems sadly it's not the case.

Also as an aside, we should be prepared to start seeing higher death numbers in the coming days, as 14 days ago was when we registered 438 cases, the days afterward it rose to 627, 674, 636, 820, 824, 803 and then so on creeping up toward to 1K mark.

Amazing to think people still think this way...gotta be a gee up

They’ll come around soon enough when they realise they can’t do anything without it.

No, not a gee up but reality. See I'll get vaccinated providing I feel safe with it, was thinking of Moderna but today read about 2 deaths in Japan from it in their 30s, people unlikely to have died from the virus. And 1 death from Pfiizer in NZ.
And then once vaccinated am I safe or only in a relative sense? Will I feel free or still restricted And will I need boosters every 6 months?

See if I don't feel safe with the vaccine I'm better off taking my chances with the virus,at the end of the day catching it hopefully light is the best proven long term immunity

Furthermore, once vaccinated why will I need to check in with QR codes? Imagine one could go to a WT game check in, see a heartless loss and then get told you are a close contact and have to self isolate for 2 weeks. Then there could be another variant and back in lockdown.

Right from the very beginning the way this was handled from China down, makes one wonder how in this day and age experts could get this so wrong. Does anybody remember the WHO in January 2020 coming out and saying that the virus only transmits from animals to people not people to people! Why didn't experts around the world advise their governments to isolate China before Xmas 2019. Then we heard vacines will give us herd immunity etc etc.

I've lost confidence and am starting to believe restrictions will be long term.
Hope I'm wrong.

The lockdowns won’t last. There will be a revolution if they go beyond Christmas, if not sooner.

Lol in form of what, protests? I’ve never known a group of people in such a position of weakness, act as if they are in such a position of power.

No, but people are fed up. I hear the same every day from all sorts of people from all economic circumstances. The clock is ticking, and the lockdowns must end soon otherwise Governments will suffer the consequences when their constituents turn on them.

I agree.

Said it since the start...

Good luck keeping Australians locked inside on 35 degree days when there's beaches close by.

Needs to be sorted by summer.

Hoping we are nearing that 70%

I'll bet Gladys is nervous as hell as we approach that 70% target, wondering what promises of freedom she will have to renege on as pressures on our health system increase by the day.

I'm pretty sure that the majority of people are very irate about the continual promises and carrot dangling by her as we approached the last vaccination target only to be given stuff all.

I just get the feeling that as we get towards 70% that the goal post is moved to 80% and who knows where we go to after that.

This issue about pressures on the health system has me intrigued.
We are constantly hearing reports that our health systems are under pressure and that the situation is only going to get worse.
If I understand the recent statements from the Doherty Institute, they are saying that the blowout in infection numbers in NSW doesn't actually change their modelling. The same numbers of infections will occur once restrictions are eased, (70% and 80% vax) it's just that we (NSW, I assume and perhaps Vic) will be further along that curve than would have been the case at the time of easing, if that blowout hadn't occurred.
So, in the grand plan, we would always get to the same peak in infections numbers at some stage in the strategy for easing restrictions.
So how come our health systems are going to be under pressure if the peak that we are forecast to reach is no greater than that envisaged by the plan being proposed by our government?
Are there some "chicken little" forecasts being trotted out here by our health experts/commentators or is the government just cynically hoping to fit the federal election in some time after restrictions ease but before peak hospitalisations grind the system to a halt?

I may be wrong but I believe that there is pressure on the system which is why not only elective surgeries, but some very pretty serious procedures, cancer treatments and basic things like breast cancer screenings have all been put on the back burner because so many resources have been re-directed to COVID testing, vaccination and hospital COVID cases.

It would be pretty interesting to see figures for death rates and waiting lists for other diseases and health issues during the last 18 months or so and particularly during the lengthy lock down periods. (mental health issue numbers alone would be pretty horrific)

The NSW Health system is probably more robust than some of the other states and if it is overwhelmed at some stage, I would hate to see what might eventually happen in some other states and regions.

Just using simple bare bones maths, if there is 1 person in ICU out of 115 that is double vaxxed, that represents 0.8% of the ICU cases. If 30% of NSW is double vaxxed and If the vaccine did nothing for hospitalisation/death you would expect 30% of the cases to be double vaxxed, therefore you can interpret that you are 30 x less likely to end up in ICU of you are double vaxxed which would equate to a Vaccine Effectiveness of 96.7% for preventing ICU.

The UK data forecasts vaccine effectiveness against hospitalisation of 96% for Pfizer and 94% for AZ, so I would suggest that these numbers suggest that this data is pretty close and these numbers are exactly what we should expect with Delta.

Well thanks to the link Cultered Hogan found it is around 9%..
AZ helps but these are disappointing levels of protection in my view. As for death rates climbing it seems from Europe's experience (my brother is Pfizer double vaxed stranded there atm )death rates appear lower this year with delta but it's more contagious. Like all flu type virus they get weaker over time but more contagious.

That'd be the NSW Health Covid Surveillance Report.

https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/covid-19/Documents/covid-surveillance-report-20210830.pdf

All the same stuff we rehashed several pages ago, I can't be stuffed going through it all again for someone like @magpie_magic to just issue throwaway lines comparing it to a flu, complete waste of effort and I'd guess will simply generate more nonsense/lies/misinformation.

It just seems incredibly disingenuous and very frustrating as actual quantifiable, easy to read/digest data is readily available from every State Health Department.

Would like to see some actual info on this.

I am/was booked in for a very elective surgery for next monday and I rang them up yesterday to ask about it and they said that it was going ahead. I actually pulled out and cancelled it because Im not keen hanging around a hospital before Im fully vaxxed (5 weeks) but they were very happy to do it. Private system may be a point of difference but when I was in the same hospital 3 weeks ago, they told me thay had COVID patients in there.

Anecdotally, it seems that Westmead and Liverpool are doing the heavy lifting and maybe the strategy is to centralise the load?
