Salford Red Devils have bolstered their forward options for the 2015 Super League season with the addition of Cory Paterson.

The 27-year-old former Hull KR man originally left Wests Tigers at the end of the 2014 season to pursue a career in professional boxing.

Earlier in November Paterson won his second fight with a first round TKO, but will now make an immediate return to rugby league for next season.

Red Devils owner Marwan Koukash told the club’s official website: “It became apparent this week that Cory wanted not only to get back into rugby league but also that he really wanted to do so with us.

“The deal has moved very quickly and Cory will join us in January on a one-year deal with an option of a second.

Retire to become a boxer aye….

More to the situation than meets the eye.
Tigers probably told him he's not needed and no other NRL club wanted him.
Save face and say he's moving onto boxing.

This guy is a pleb.

Demps,Corey probably could see the writing on the wall at the Tigers and wanted out quickly, boxing I think was a mediocre excuse at the time to make it easier to leave…

Good luck to him,we will press on without him and develop our own young guns to replace the likes of him....

He's entitled to a change of heart, but yeah it does seem all a little weird how he's been retired for less than two months and he's already back playing again.

Reminds me of Beau Ryan's retirement due to a neck injury….
NEK MINNIT...
Bungy jumping and now competing as an Iron Man.
Neck must be stinging!

yeah… cause those definitely make the same impact on the neck time after time for 26 rounds every year. :unamused:

gronk alert

People are being very hard on Cory, he was dogged by injuries and forced to play out of position in his short stay with us, so we never really got a chance to see what he really could do. Not saying he was a world beater, and probably was not what we needed moving on,but he certainly did not have any luck in his time at Concord and on the odd occasion he did have a run as a backrower, looked okay

Cory was only contracted to us for 2014…he never had a 2015 contract....No conspiracy theory's..calling him a pleb is a bit rich....his best game for us was against the Titans..

Anyway good luck to the bloke in whatever he decides to do

Scored a great try at a crucial time against the Sharks. Hit a hole off a great short pass from Brooks. He had a couple good moments, but of course people will overlook that. And he wasn't contracted for next yr anyway, so his decisions have zero on affect on the club.

It would all come down to the $$$$ , Boxing is a bigger gamble for him at this stage of his Career he would need to run his mouth like Mundine to get bigger names in his division to make good $$$$ i reckon

He played well in a few games

The Gold Coast game at the Gold Coast he played well interchanging with Blair in the centres and the Sharks game also

I'm sorry but this is getting more ridiculous every week

Oh well, so he changes his mind frequently. Good luck to him back in the UK.

Nothing wrong with changing ones mind… The only person he needs to justify that is to himself...
