Countdown to Luke Brooks playing first grade

I'm not writing off Miller tbh. I'm more taking the odds on the fact that either

Miller/Marshall are injured
Brooks is playing so well he can't be denied

I highly rate Miller, but Luke Brooks is the heir apparent halfback to the great one.

I think Brooks has a huge future. However you have to remember he only turned 18 the week before Christmas - so he is barley 18 - most players like Miller only get into first grade at 20 as a minimum these days. He won't be 20 until season 2015 so he has plenty of time. However how exciting is it to have Miller who leade our 20s to a grand final win and was NSW U20 HB and played FG at 18 himself in our team and Brooks the star of the future. Also on top of this we have Mitchell Moses who has been injured during the off season but many believe he is more talented then brooks. We have Sironen who is still eligible for the U20s who is a star in the making, Tedesco who is a genius - We have sooo much potential coming through in the backs - with some great young forwards as well- Groat, Woods, Buchannan, Sue, Spence

I am so interested to see more of Brooks play. He has plenty of support here on the forum, but yes he is only very young still. Great to see him in NSW Cup where he will fast track.

But we need to give either Miller - whom I believe should get first shot - or whoever wears the #7, proper time in the position. It took Lui nearly two seasons. Surely Miller deserves at least half a season?

And while the Robbie and Benji show still want to run the entire thing like last Saturday, it may take the next #7 just as long.

I believe brooks will be a beter half back than miller , but would you really throw him into FG at his age and size ?
how do you think hes confidence would be after he gets run over by a decent pack of forwards
hes to young to play FG , do we want to look after our players so they are still playing at 25 - 26 or do want another chris lawernce on our hands
I just dont think his body will cope will FG , he will just get injured, give him some time to play nsw cup and put a little bit of size on
talent wise He will be fine

His size isn't that much of a problem. He's slightly bigger than Miller right now, although Brooks will get bigger yet. Miller should be given every opportunity though, and if he's struggling after 10-12 rounds and going backwards, and Brooks is killing it in the NSW Cup, he'll probably pick himself by that stage anyway. I do hope Miller succeeds though.

I agree, at this stage Miller shall have advantage, and shall be given a proper chance, Lui needed several games to find his place in the side.
Hopefully, MP does not have attention span of few days, when players are demoted from 'our Andrew Johns' to 'he can take his boots and go back wherever he came from' :frowning:

This all so reminds me of Blake Lazarus

No, disagree - I don't normally jump on the bandwagon but Brooks is a stand-out, his kicking game in particular is UNBELIEVABLE.

Give him a couple of years and he will be a premium half.

Lets remember even Joey only debuted at 19 and that was off the bench in a couple of games before taking over when Rodwell was injured at the age of 20 - Brokks has just turned 18 2 months ago

One quiet game from Miller, even with the fact it was a trial, and we're writing him off. This place will never change

In my opinion he has had 5 quiet games.

I suppose the other question that has to be posed that may have some relevance

"Will Miller still be a Tiger in 2014 " ??

If he's not , should we be looking at Brooks I reckon if I was part of the recruitment squad thats what I would be wanting to know asap

I reckon they will let him go and Brooks will be 2014 half, think this is the thinking with the fast tracking straight into NSW cup.

Agree with Goose that Brooks going straight into NSW club is a plan to fast track him for 2014.

Miller will be lucky to be offered another contract.

IMO there is no doubt Brooks (and potentially Moses) are our halves future. From what I have seen so far Brooks has the special quality of 'time' when forced to make decisions under pressure and you can see him planning in advance the next move(s). The problem Miller has (and I reckon anyone else will have) is R & B won't let go of the reigns and give someone else a go. This leads to the next big problem as R & B are now so predicable all teams have to do is sit back and watch them crab across the field and then pick off the runners. How do you change this? Apart for the obvious I have NFI.

Even though Brooks might be a gun in the making, why cant the club wait until his body is ready for the stress of FG?
Miller did what he needed to do in the trials, pass the ball to beniji and tackle. lui was a turnstyle and that was a man short in D and we dont have Ellis to cover for players any longer. If we make the 8 this year with Miller tackling and putting in work and doing what he needs to whats the problem?

Exactly my thoughts donny! i've been saying it really abstrusely, you put it super concisely! miller needs to get the ball to benji, not screw up, tackle and maybe put a few kicks in if benji/robbie aren't in a position to put a kick in or are injured.
