Countdown to Luke Brooks playing first grade

If all we needed from our half is to pass the ball to benji, tackle and put the occasional kick in then why not just get back the great John Morris?
Whoever the 7 is: Miller, brooks or someone else they need to be able to do more than just that. We need another point of attack other than Robbie and benji.

Completely agree with the above statement.

That is our problem, whoever our 7 is needs to step up and contribute find they're voice and have the balls to overcall Robbie & Benji (both have been asking for this).

R & B may have been asking for it but they are not showing it! It even looked like Robbie didn't want Miller there at times in the Foundation Cup. It reminded me of previous games Miller was not utilised in.

Seriously R & B need to just back off. Don't they realise that if they pick their moment better, and the team starts mixing things up a bit more through the likes of Miller and Anasta, that all will be better off?

As others have said, we are too predictable and our attack is pedestrian because of it.

Miller does not lack confidence nor combinations with some on the field so I'm not getting it at the moment… was it Sheens or an edict from R & B that stopped Miller before??

Never seen Brooks play but he must be good listening to all on here rave about him. Sort of reminds me of the numerous threads about Miller himself a few years ago.

For mine, Brooks is 18 and should spend at least a year in reggies getting his body accustomed to being hit hard week after week by fully grown men. Only through showing he can handle the grind of a full season in this way could he ever be seen as ready for the leap in speed, aggression, timing and intensity - not to mention the media glare that comes with a pivotal position in an NRL premiership team such as halfback.

Miller is our half and we should all be patient and get behind him. This is his time and he has earnt the right. If Brooks is as great as everyone says then he will get there…I just see no need to rush him when the incumbant hasnt been given a real go yet.

One quiet game from Miller, even with the fact it was a trial, and we're writing him off. This place will never change

In my opinion he has had 5 quiet games.

I agree. Although Miller hasn't done a whole lot wrong in the first grade games that he has played, IMO he hasn't really shown alot either to suggest that he will be anything more than a John Morris-style catch and pass player. He hasn't really produced any glimpses that make you think that he will be the dominant, creative halfback that this team so desperately needs.

Miller really concerns me. I have never seen him play well or even show glimpses of being a good player. Maybe he will get there but if he doesn't will this be another dud season.

How come he was judged U20's halfback of the year.
How come he made the U20's / Junior Kangaroo squad last year.
How come he made the U20's NSW squad last year..

Surely he can't be as bad as pple think on here and have all these accolades?

I'm not sure. Maybe I have it wrong. I haven't seen him play a lot of games.

I just compare him to players like Benji, Robbie, Lawrence, Korobiete and even Lui who all made an impact quickly and I'm worried.

For every Mitchell Pearce there's a Troy Pezet, Blake Green or Damien Chapman. Being a schoolboys star doesn't mean a player is guaranteed to make the next step up. There's only one way to find out.

On the other hand, I saw one u/20s game two years back where he looked like the messiah. Every pass or kick was gold. I'd love to see some of that in the next month or so.

Well if he is so good…How come Sheens didn't use him last year ?

Selectors don't watch all the games they pick sides on reputation I would think a players club coach would know better than anyone what a player can and can't do.

In mof those game Sheens stuffed him around, it was clear he was told to take a back seat and support….allow R & B to run the show

Not a real compelling argument there Irvine, Sheens stuffed the kid around tremendously.

Agree Stryker. I'd hardly call five sporadic games over a couple of seasons where he was shut out of the playmaking role a resounding endorsement of Sheens utilisation of Miller.

I think we need to see how Miller handles first grade when given the opportunity to play consecutive rounds of the comp in the role required by the team and the coach

I suppose there are reasons why Potter gets to be paid to coach the Tigers rather than me doing it. So if he reckons Miller is worth a shot at half I have to accept that. However I have to say, I have not seen it in him.

Although Brooks is young, I see no reason not to throw him in. In 1980 I watched Terry Lamb, then 19 make his first grade debut for Wests at Lidcombe Oval and slay Balmain almost single handed. He never looked back. I get a similar buzz of excitement about Brooks.

I am a huge Luke Brooks fan but there are some things that people on this thread may not be aware of. Luke has had two terrible leg injuries and a broken thumb in the last three years. He would have been lucky to have played 20 games in this time. In saying this, he made the Australian school boys last year. He is one of the tuffest and talented kids I have ever seen. I think he will play first grade at some time this year but I hope the Tigers give him time to develop his game in the 20's. Like Luke, the Tigers need to give Jacob Miller a chance / time to develop into a first grade player.

Havent seen Brooks play, but have had plenty of people wrap him… Im just glad for 1 thing... If the club is serious about him being our long term HB then playing him in NSW Cup is the perfect plan... Manly did it with DCE, by sending him to QLD Cup rather then bullying all the kids in NYC and look how that worked out...

I would have prefered Miller to do the same last season and play NSW Cup, that way he got used to playing against the hard heads rather then the kids in NYC... I hope Miller gets a good go but if he doesnt step up and Brooks is doing well in NSW Cup then i think he needs to come in..

DCE played NYC and dominated, before playing QLD cup and dominating.

What i meant was he was given that season in QLD Cup before playing in the NRL… Its to big a step imo for halfs to jump from...

SO WE DO THE SAME AS LAST YEAR WASTE WEEKS, WITH MILLER THEN WHEN THAT DOES NOT WORK WE THROUGH IN BROOKS THEN. BY THIS TIME WE ARE BOTTOM OF THE LADDER.

SORRY ABOUT THE CAPITALS BUT IT WAS ON BEFORE , I NOTICED AND I AM NOT REWRITING IT.
