I dont care what anyone says, GALLANT would have made a great little halfback,. he has the speed, can tackle, can kick, can read the play, is an organizer, and a leader.he is also a tough little bludger.he would have solved our halfback woes..I know on other posts i have said we need a specialist halhback, but with nothing on the market, shannon would have been sensational…...

It's all water under the bridge now, but Shannon at 1/2 was seriously considered in his early days at the magpies; some thought even then that his size was always going to be against him at the senior level.

Gallant at halfback…i've heard it all now!!

I think you've packed your head in one too many scrums crouching tiger.. "what is under your head gear ??

I hope he puts on a huge game against the W/T + shows them that they should have given him a decent contract.

You don't think Tim Moltzen is good enough to be our halfback but you think Shannon Gallant is?

You say NO to Moltzen that has some experience at 1/2
then say YES to Gallant at 1/2 who has a next to nothing passing game
You baffle me Tomcat 😕

Surley your not that simple tigerdre, im just stating the fact gallant imo could have been a great half, ive played and coached footy all my life, and i'd like to think i have some idea on what im talking about.Everybody was saying gallant was too small for first grade at fullback, so i thought well he is a firstgrade footballer, and he could develop quiet quickly as a half because he has all the skills of a good half back..Moltzen,although he has played half, imo hasn't all the skills required, why do you think sheens had moltzen at fullback?

That's an easy one…..

1\. His desire to replace Hodgo with a similar type of skills player...a ballplaying fullback....an experiment he started at the begining of '08 with Moltzen and Lazarus....
2\. the continuing development of the Massiah....Benji Marshall...
3\. Gave Moltzen the time he needed to establish himself and gain more first grade experience without the added pressure of being Benji's partner...

You really think they are gunna shift Thurstan to accomodate Gallant..... 😱pen_mouth:

geo,it was just a thought i had early last year , when shannon couldn't get a crack in firsts, thats all , thats it,, over. all im saying is i think he could have made a better halfback than moltzen is now..ITS just my opinion….i say black you say white..

yep, almost as crazy as Daniel Fitzfumble as our firstgrade fullback..

one very, deceptively good buy the cowboys have made IMO. But, we were the idiots who didn't sign him up, even though he wanted to stay.

anyway i hope all goes well for him up at Townsville

Maybe Shannon wont start the year in first grade…

Lazarus really hurt his trial opportunity last week. Had virtually every kick find the grass(mud) all night up in Mackay and snapped him on around the ankles on every single kick return.
Obe Geia must've been thankful Lazarus wasn't playing at fullback against him again. Obe got owned hard every single time he had to defend against him at NYC level…

The Cowboys have a history of buying fringe first graders, promising them an easy run to first grade and then subsequently never giving them a look in. I wrote a post about this when he signed with them. I hope for Shannon's sake he proves me wrong but I think its doubtful you will see him playing much first grade this year.

The Cashman was a fringe first grader here and they turned him into a star. I think Gallant will get plenty of game time, due to Bowen missing a lot of games, and being out of form.

Star? Thats taking it a bit far but yes Cashy did get a good run by the Cows. However, a lot of others havent. The fact that Ty Williams has been picked ahead of him isnt a good sign. As soon as Bowen is fit he will play, form or no form, dont kid yourself otherwise. Also, with Grant Rovelli in their squad and given that he will be coming back from injury, Bowen wont be shifted to 5/8th.
