Going to get shot down by 99% of all you but how about he idea of NRL cutting back its current teams and then introducing international teams, if the NRL cuts 2 current sides and introduces 4 international sides it would be great for the branding and growth of the game. NRL could even buy a side from the Super League if possible, unless the teams rights are owned by the ESL.

I would like to see a San Franciso or New York team in the NRL, there is no better timing than now to expand to San Francisco with Haynes transition to the NFL creating such publicity for the game in the area.

NO… Time to kick those freeloading Kiwis out of the Australian National Competition and grow our game in Australia first.

If Hayne drops one more ball, he and the NRL will soon be the brunt of all jokes in the US.

NATIONAL rugby league. (despite warriors)

more than happy to see something along the lines of champions trophy in football.

Should make the 5 day turnaround interesting… 😱pen_mouth:

Be careful what you wish for. There is always be a chance that WT could be one of the two current teams cut by the NRL.

Yep, i think along with the Titans we will be first cut.

Let's tip the hat for being left-field, and move on.

As Geo said, how would you propose to fly players to the US week-to-week.

At the start of 2015 I predicted the Cowboys to finally win a grand final and they did.

My prediction for 2016 is the Broncos as they will be stronger for the experience, will have McGuire back at prop and likely to have the experienced Ben T'eo back. It will be interesting to see how Ben Hunt picks up his game after the grand final shocker. Mildfred can only get better which is scary.

Same top eight as this year with only Canberra and Warriors a chance to maybe take the place of St George and/or Canterbury.

WT to be 14th place in 2016 with the Farah saga to continue to play out and persistent rumour about whether Taylor will survive the whole season. Important year for Brooks and Moses with Drinkwater and Littlejohn in the wings

^^^^
I can see the Tigers now… Only Moses and little john kick on. We decide to get rid of brooks, then we have the same issue of two 5/8 and no organising half so we try to turn Moses into an organising half, it doesn't work and he has a short stint in rugby.

On the other prediction, I don't think you can have a weekly worldwide nrl comp until we have supersonic mass airline travel so the only sane thing the nrl can do is to start investing all of its profit into engineering, or maybe just buy out Boeing.

* Winking obviously and nodding my head to make sure you all understand sarcasm and the ludicrousness of my comments, well maybe not the first point....

I can't see 9 NRL teams in Sydney forever. I truly believe that only 6 could be properly sustainable long term.

Someone will bring up the AFL in Melbourne argument but they're not apples v apples. Melbourne and AFL have an entirely different mindset. They still had 2 teams transplanted, one to Sydney (South Melbourne) and one to Brisbane (Fitzroy). Having said that it's always a Melbourne team at the bottom so I think they will make more tough decisions sooner or later.

Who will the 3 hypothetical Sydney NRL teams be, and jow will it happen?

I suppose it will depend on WHEN it eventually happens and how good the CEO is.

If it was in next 5 years?
1 - Wests Tigers (no argument we are a basket case atm). Disappear? Merge again? Relocate maybe?
2 - St George Illawarra merge with Cronulla ( the only sensible outcome)
3 - Roosters merge with Souths (again take emotion out of it and it's sensible)

Without Crowe Souths are in trouble. Souths get more support way out West at ANZ than they do locally. Roisters gave no crowds but have money. Money alone won't be enough to meet suitable criteria targets.

People on here will argue that they will walk away from league if it happens to our team. My argument is that it only takes half a generation to fully accept change.

I think I may have taken the heat off you Milkey, hehehe

i think a one big south/south west team with tigers, panthers, eels and dogs (eew!) will be a good idea.

merging souths and roosters is also a very good idea- mainly because both fans hate each other and that'll be awesome to watch.

NRL really needs to extend to perth or tassie or somewhere

There is no doubt there is to many Sydney teams and it's only a matter of time before they cut back teams in Sydney and get a team in Perth and maybe another 2 Brisbane sides.

In time Clubs will be given the option to relocate or the NRL will take matters in there own hands and begin the culling.
That's just what I reckon.

Another team in Queensland is a no brainier.

The easiest option is Brisbane 2 as its almost criminal Suncorp sits empty every 2nd week. (Ipswich & Redckiffe won't work)

From a revenue perspective, having the 4th team in Qld only adds to the 'local derby' momentum.

People will mention Titans, but they simply need good governance internally for the next 5 years. Michael was too entraprenarial too early and virtually killed the club being focused on the bigger picture stuff.

Make it happen… Can't wait for an all Qld semi finals each year

The thing with Brisbane 2 is that it can't be another glossy plastic News Limited organisation. They need a working mans club up there.

Ipswich or the Sunshine Coast would be a success , doesn't necessarily need to a 2nd Brisbane side

Sunshine Coast would be a disaster, and the population out Ipswich way is still 10 years off sustaining an NRL Franchise.

It must be within the Brisbane Footprint of 2M people.
